The little ball in Pong; it absorbed Kirby's powers to absorb stuff and a goomba's power to kill stuff it touches. Its ability to alter its velocity consciously is still under development.

Also, what's a vortigaunt?
Vortigaunt
Thanks!

Two things:
1. In case someone tries to get some Jägerbrau, this should be useful. If you need help with figuring out what something is, ask me; I've got a good batting average.
2. What did Tim do last turn?
I can only assume screw the Lichette.
If winter came, would you assume global warming was screwing the lichette?

IIRC, you burned both the neighboring town AND Macropolis. The latter wasn't as badly affected, but it's also farther away.

Bah, I'm an entrepreneur. Also, Tim seems to be taking a nap.

Sin's not dead, but you're not sure where he is.
Oh.  Let's look him up in the yellowpages then, and fry his house?
He probably moved since you burned Macropolis...
Damn.  Did he leave his new address with anyone?  Let's check the post office.

You head to the post office. The ashes contain no useful information, [3] and you narrowly escape various military groups who start pursuit. It's 4:37, and you've got 10-15 minutes before they arrive.

Once I learn Haste, I'll be able to do both at once!
Besides, unlike Cave Johnson, I have magic and business sense. That means I can create a wider variety of goods, sell them to a wider variety of markets, and actually sell stuff.

And uh...
...If I do not fare well, YOU don't fare well...
Threat much?

Fake death.
Make sure it stays fake.

Use luck magic thingy?

You used that arguement I don't know why you are applying it to me.

"You will notice TVtropes didn't put it in the good balance category"
You were arguing that luck-based balance was balanced; I pointed out that a rather respected source provided good reasons as to why it's not.
You say that good games used luck-based balance; I pointed out that the luck-based balance did not necessarily make the games good and that it wasn't necessarily good for DF.
Exactly the same. Oh, and if I hadn't reached my maximum quota for TV Tropes links, I would have linked that to a neat TV Tropes page on sarcasm.

And does improving some games make it not fake, or good for DF?

It invalidates your arguement that "Because this feature seems bad it is inherantly bad for dwarf fortress" which weakens your overall arguement.
I said it was bad for DF, and still fake. Was I being too subtle?
The feature is bad for DF because it's bad for DF. Is that clear for you? It's bad for DF because it doesn't work for DF. I'd be interested to hear examples of games that, in your opinion, used luck-based balance in a good way.

This is low fantasy
It is currently low fantasy with a desire to allow worlds to generate from low to high fantasy with "High Fantasy" being the medium.

Edit Addition: Actually it is currently "High fantasy" my mistake.
We are using different definitions of the term. Where are the wizards? Rare and trapped in their towers. Where are the priests? In their temples, trying nit to draw their gods' ires. Where is magic? Almost entirely out of sight, even more out of reach of mortals. I call that low fantasy. What do you consider low fantasy?
And where has Toady said he wants to move DF to high fantasy?

DF Suggestions / Re: Discoveries and Inventions

I don't think it should be strictly linear. For example if a lot of things die because of a famine or plague it might mean that certain technologies are lost. The more advanced the technology the more often it happens, adding a soft cap to the game. It should be as subtle as possible.  this is a bit of a generalisation so I hope people don't misunderstand my point.
I understand. However, it wouldn't solve all of the problems. Either shorter histories mean dwarves with copper and gold at their upper end, or longer histories often end with guns or steam engines. Or Toady artificially limits development, but that doesn't seem to be his style.

maybe different areas could have different levels like south america had limited access to metal tools while europe had gunpowder.and strict tenology x = tech y is historically inaccurate. the egyptians built the pyramids without much advanced tech [unless you believe the alien theory]. so there could be a lot of variation to make the difference look more smooth,
Well, I'm not sure how your examples matter to your point, but the idea is both valid and I-thought-it-was-obvious.

That's luck-based balance, and there's a reason it's not listed under the "Good Balance" trope.
There is a reason why "Tropes are not good or bad" there are many great games that have luck based balance.
Hurray for TVtropes based arguements.
And there are many evil regimes that were patriotic. Does that make patriotism evil?
And does improving some games make it not fake, or good for DF?

And what about my other points? I too the time to write a paragraph in response to each of yours, and you attack one of my weaker arguments?

DF Suggestions / Re: Mercenaries & Inter-racial employees

I thought maybe antmen could tunnel very quickly through stone and soil, far faster than any dwarf, but they will rarely leave stone behind. This means that you have to use legendary Dwarven miners if you want ore, but you can use antmen if you just want an area cleared quickly without excess stone. They also wouldn't do stuff like alert you to new discoveries of gems and such, they just dig right on through. Such things mean nothing to them.

Stuff like frogmen being good fishers isn't too random though, that makes sense, or something like an amphibian man or whatever. Maybe they could be good for removing swarms of flies.
Why and why?

I think you should be able to hire your dwarves to enemies, but it shouldn't be a good idea...

Maybe antmen aren't as bright as Dwarves but they're good tunnelers. Frogmen could catch lots of flies at once with their long tongues. Not only are they efficient aquatic haulers, but they also take away nasty swarms of flies from your food stockpiles too.
[/quite]
I can buy antmen being less bright than dwarves, but unless they're digging with their jaws they wouldn't necessarily be faster diggers than dwarves. And how would frogmens' tounges help their fishing, and since even larger frogs IRL don't survive on nothing but bugs why would larger frogmen?

Quote
The antmen thing might make life easier for players too who find excess stone to be a bit of a headache. Just hire antmen to do the work for you, or maybe you would have to go via their queen.
So? If dwarves could eat tattered clothes it would reduce the refuse piles needed but that doesn't make sense.
