Idiot-Check Time!

1. Do the dwarves have wood hauling enabled?
2. Is wood gathering disabled in the orders screen?
3. Are the dwarves in a burrow that does not encompass the outdoors?
4. Can the dwarves reach the wood?
5. Is the wood stockpile set to only take only from somewhere else?
6. Is the stockpile set to use wheelbarrows but you don't have any?
7. Is there something scaring the dwarves away from the wood?
8. Has the wood been hauled by, say, swift-acting miners?
9. Are they on break, eating, etc?
10. Have you unpaused?

I think what we really need is Obsidian Shards covered in elf blood and Magma.

Seems to me that'd be difficult to handle.

Stockpile obsidian shards, cover in magma, remove magma, dump elves on them.

Oh, yeah, I know what a griffin is.  I don't know what a hippogrif is though.  It's just that a griffon is a type of dog, so that was really confusing.  Magical dogs are harder to come by than magical griffins.

Anyways, I've seen griffin spelled griffon, gryphon, gryffin...Hippogriff, too.
