Yea pulling levers for muscles sounds incredibly stupid. I understand that different jobs have different effects but pulling lever is not what you do eight hours a day.
Well, some people does it for living, construction machinery for example, which's what I thinks of :D
And yet they don't get all heavily muscled...Besides, most of construction is more of knowing which lever to push.

Advice?
Don't embark anywhere that sounds dangerous. Avoid aquifers, try to find a volcano. Dig a farm in soil, plant plump helmets. Brew some alcohol once you've got enough of a surplus. Draft worthless migrants and send them at random animals unarmed to train them. Buy as much metal as you can from the dwarven caravan, using rock mugs and the clothes of dead dwarves. Head back over here if you have more questions.

2. The game's pretty much the same as always. Anything written after minecarts will still apply perfectly, and most older guides will with a little modification.

How could it possibly take so much tine each game to remake each of those basic things?
I know I'm showing my ignorance, but I'm doing so in an attempt to provoke discussion.
Licensing issues, having to update to newest platform and interface, new people in management booting out the devs that knows stuff, having to make it specificly to their game, new people that just got hired on and so on. Graphic stuffs' probably the worst part of game making, from my observation.
