"Send the overseer and 40 plebs to chop wood" sounds like the overseer would be chopping wood. Besides, the overseer should know the layout of the island.Why not have the overseer join the exploration group? More suitable. Otter than that, +1.
What do you mean? The overseers job is to oversee the plebs as they do various menial jobs. I'm not sure how it would help in a Geologist exploration.
Edit: At least that is what I assume the overseers job is. I am not sure of course as information is scant.
