Roll To Dodge / Re: Endgame: Vaguely inspired by YOU AT FINAL BOSS
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:55:00 pm »
Where did you get a guillotine? And how do you aim with one?

Alright, fine. I'll take what I can get.
Sucks to be Speciosam, though. And Argentum, who now lacks a good supply of cloth as well as a mother. And the rest of the family. Magnum lost his wife, Fillium lost not only his mother but, to a lesser extent, his father. The death of his wife won't make the brooding bit any better...

And for the city council meeting.

"Alright, let's call the meeting to order. First thing we need, before laws, before codes, before anything else...we need to decide how we want this town to go. I've been here since the town was founded--we all have--and we know we can't go on like this forever. Let's hear some thoughts."

Considering the destruction of a whole city in one go as only a good concept to make art about is pretty much the epitome of being a villain. Well, I think you can one-up that with the destruction of a whole planet, but we're not a city...
Why destroy the planet? That's where all of your stuff is.

Anyways, you decide to have Jim work on the Jebediah Deluxe. [3] He does eventually figure out how to stabilize it, but it'll take until tomorrow. Meanwhile, you [4] create the Model HR-11 Heat Turret, specifically three of them. You'll need more computers to make more of them, and time to get the computers. Good night.

END OF DAY 17 OF VILLAINY

You awake to the sound of shouts.

Zombies have a hit point based system, instead of going by their wounds, like the above poster said. Best method for disposal is an atom smasher, or dumping them after they have been killed
Do they? I'm pretty sure it's a "how many limbs they have left" system. You can take a steel hammer to a zombie until judgement day.
That's Dead Space. DF zombies do "collapse" after you hit them enough, although usually they get back up fast enough that no one cares. Especially around necromancers...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: About Sparing
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:36:46 pm »
Sparing? We don't spare anyone! Spear them!
Shear them!
Smear them! Which actually happened once when it started raining elf blood on one of my fortresses. Armok clearly blessed them.
In the spirit of the upcoming changes: Pear them!
No, these are Dwarves. Rear them!
Shouldn't your forges be hard at work, Gearing them?
I have a feeling you should fear them.
These are dwarves. Beer them!
It might be a bad idea to steer them into stuff.

DF without therapist is like trying to calculate the square root of pi in your head.
On cocaine.
Seeing as I have never touched Dwarf Therapist, I must be able to do that!
...About 1-3/4!

Welcome to dwarf fortress.

May Armok guide you through the menus of this little asylum fortress simulator and back.

You will learn why you fear the night, learn why the trees are seen so lowly, and watch the countless slaughter of thousands of dwarves.

Welcome to dwarf fortress.

Little tip: In the future, when your forts are larger: If you have everything you need going, assign some dwarfs to the militia, you'll need 'em if you train and equip them properly. But that is not now.

Also, list of seemingly harmless creatures to fear: Keas, Hoary Marmots, ANYTHING WITH HOOVES, and Badgers. Any animal can interrupt dwarves' activities, though, most famously hoary marmots.

And finally, most of you're all wimps, No Dwarf Therapist here.
FIFY.

Well, you can target caravans and liaisons for attack...

Unless I'm mistaken the question was about whether or not a stray bolt would hit a friendly. You can target them for attack but unless you do I don't think the bolts will hit them.
I was just pointing out that they might not be considered friendly.

While some dwarves don't get much love from me, I don't actively try to kill them like I once did. Sure, they might get sent to fight with little training and less gear, but that's about standard for my soldiers. And before they die, they'll have food, alcohol, a place to sleep, and meaningful work to do. Granted, the meaning is typically lost on them, but its the thought that counts.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No Clothes from Wool Cloth?
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:29:39 pm »
Yak hair (et al.) can only be spun into thread, not woven into cloth.  It can be used for sutures, but nothing else.
Shorn wool is different, and the topic at hand. I also doubt the general content of this statement.
The general content of that statement is correct, there are a number of animals which yield hair which cannot be woven into cloth.
Part I doubt has been bolded.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: dwarven vampire babies
« on: October 14, 2012, 07:29:11 pm »
It does not normally happen, no. Did someone bring it water laced with vampire blood?

45356
Hey, presumably Magnum and the rest of House Draco were aware that having babies past the age of 35 would be bad, and if not they might have considered the warnings of the others. I hadn't noticed the rule so I had no idea that anything bad could happen; it came out of the blue.

I'm just asking that if some action I posted would have some really bad effect due to a rule I could have missed, say if it had been changed since the game started getting all of its rules, Mullet Master gve me and others making some such mistake a little warning saying, "Hey, X will happen if you do Y. Want to change your action?" Otherwise, it seems like Mullet Master wants me to reread the rules before I do every turn in case something's changed or been forgotten that could kill someone or do something else bad.

Wait, why?
Bcause, whenever someone sees it, it goes into a rage and kills whatever it is. Even if it is 1000s of miles away, and you only saw 4 pixels of it. It can't be stopped by any means.
SCP-089 is a prophetic statue. Do you mean SCP-582?

Ahem.
Go hug the Lichette! Whilst on fire!
FINE. No SCP World destruction then. Mecha hitler though.
Fine by me.

HINDER ACTION.

Ahem.
Go hug the Lichette! Whilst on fire!

Do you even know what SCP-447-2 does when it comes in contact with dead bodies? Let me put it this way: Someone decided to conduct a test on it and was immediately reassigned to D-class duty, typically reserved for felons serving life sentences or awaiting execution. Also, they wouldn't let it be added to commercial cement in case a dead body fell on it. And they wouldn't let it be used as a [DATA EXPUNGED] because of the danger of it falling into the hands of a necrophiliac. Keep in mind the Foundation's SOP...

... Were you talking to me? Because I was intending to help you hinder Misko's action.
It sounded like you were hindering my attempt to hinder misko's action. Please clarify in your post, we don't want Spinal to mess it up and have a big [DATA EXPUNGED] just because you weren't clear.

The Wild North, The Horned Empire, and Savage Island are controlled by non-allied NPCs; Fufgraf, Ouldlend, and probably Westingtonshirehamburgvillegradistan and Dalberg are NPC fiefs.

Not if he only does it to remind me of a rule I missed, and does it for everyone.

In the first post , it says
Quote
Have baby - Matriarch only, takes 1 year. Remember the year - having many children is dangerous and taxing on resources. You can have children up to age 35.
Wasn't there originally...Yeah, okay, my bad. Next time I do something against some rule like that, can you remind me of the rule before doing the turn?

Quote
A woman trying to have a baby today would find it very difficult at age of 47, and it would be very dangerous.
I did not know that. About the worst I expected was discovering that Speciosam had entered menopause.
