So, how can one successfully quarantine such hazardous residues to eliminate probable accidental contamination / infection? Accepting, of course, that in a game such as DF, probabilities will never reach a zero, and someone's eventually going to contract Evil-Dwarfish-MRSA, what containment procedures have proven successful for anyone?
Most contaminants are destroyed by magma.

Also, misko needs to make Xantalos promise to nit destroy the universe. Or at least not to destroy the inhabited parts of it, I don't care much about empty, intergalactic space.

Ironhide, a female so the balance is closer to even.
Ironhide is 29 winters in age.
Abilities:
Attack -1
Defense +1
Senses 0
Cunning +1
Stealth 0
Ironhide is the second oldest in the pack, and while a bit smaller than most Hunters manages to be tough as stone. Just recently, she healed from a Warhorn stomping on her leg. Normally, she tries to be the planner of the pack, helping out Strider with the plans, but she is often used as "bait" or some other dangerous job due to her toughness. Strider and Ironhide have a friendly rivalry. Ironhide also helps raising the chicks, in part due to being injured a fair amount of the time.
Ironhide's feathers* are a bit grayer than most, but her head feathers are a notable green. Her left ripping claw is chipped from a previous encounter, and her hide is crisscrossed with scars of all shapes and sizes.
*They had feathers.
Is all of this OK?

I found a good spot in a haunted swamp. Three streams meet to form a river, clay, shallow metal, very deep soil...only disadvantage I see is salty water, and a well fixes that up. Thoughts?

As to ships: Start out focusing on cheapness, reliability, and fuel efficiency. Speed is more a factor of what orbits you use and how much you put into acceleration than anything.
