I wouldn't put too much faith in Google. Apparently, I share a name with some Canadian guy who got murdered, despite being neither Canadian nor murdered.
Right.  However, I'm guessing whatever Stan did was big/bad, and probably made him more popular than you.  I mean no offense, but you've only been not-Canadian and not-murdered.
We can also ask Gilbert.  He seems to know.
Where did you see something suggesting that Stan was more notable than, say, me? AFAICT, Stan's mostly been quiet,

1. The rules are the rules.
2. The only exception to the above is when they do not apply.
3. The only rule is rule 3.
4. Except for this one.
5. You must be approved for the system before doing anything.
6. This includes being approved for the system.

-.-
I am disappoint.
How? I can make even more frustrating rules if you want.

Noes! This is not my intention. I want rules that I can use against people. Like a weapon. Or, alternatively, a real weapon. Like, say, Greenstar's sword.
GIVE ME THE DAMN SWORD! I WANTS IT AND IDK WHY ANYMORE!
Eh, get your own. Use GreatWyrmGold as a weapon, I don't care. I MADE this sword, and I'm gonna DAMN WELL USE IT!
I'm standing right here...
Hanslandia volunteered, use him!

Several of the heroes stop and stare at either Seer or Tomcat.

That could work. Other options include drafting most of the migrants and having them fight off the undead long enough to flee for a spot which will be opened up just long enough for them to flee into, or mining a few little bunkers with locked doors and no nearby enemies and having migrants flee into one, fight off enemies that followed, and then be allowed in.

I was mostly trying to point out that using the fun of Oregon trail to "prove" that a caravan-following-system would be fun for DF doesn't work.
But I think we could work out a caravan-following-system for DF that would be fun. What would it have to be like to be fun?
Not distracting me from my fortress? That would be a good start.

Adventure mode escorting could be fun.
It certainly wouldn't distract you from your fortress. How would it?
Which, escorting in AM or following in DM?
To be honest, my idea of caravan following would work a lot more like adventure mode. I wouldn't even call it following, I'd say guiding. But either, really. How would either distract you?
Time I spend IRL watching a caravan cross the wilderness is time not spent watching my outpost bloom into a fortress.

Grab the arm behind us and use leverage to break it. Then back off to a safe distance and shoot the damn thing. Then set it on fire.
Sounds like a plan!

"Nope."
Pinch Chopper's head in between my hands by clapping them; this will crush his head like a grape, or at least disorient and deafen him.
You disorient him, but he's used to it.

Tomcat started running towards the chopper pilot. He stayed focused on the pilot while calling out to the heroes. "There are too many of us. Figure out who is going after the pilot or don't go at all. We're going to make a mess if we all go at once." He quickly closed the distance and took a leaping kick at the pilot, taking advantage of his disorientation.
Tomcat leaps at Chopper, but falls to a weird distracting staticey thing. He can almost feel himself going haywire. This nutjob gets kicked but not knocked over.
"Ow, that hurt, Pussycat. Now, did I fire six shots or just five? Do ya feel lucky, punk? Oh, wait, one out of twenty. I can probably shoot y'all some." He shoots at Tomcat, who can't get away fast enough to avoid a leg wound, before sprinting off.

Sigurd outstretches his hand, concealing the dart within it. All the exits seem to slam shut, and he walks up behind Chopper.
"Don't run."
Is that some magic thing, or are you expecting Chopper's lowered sanity to fill in the exits outside?
Illusioning the exits so they seem shut.
...You're outside.
Anyhoo, Chopper looks at Sigurd. "Neat trick, I've got one too."
He then draws a sidearm and shoots Sigurd in the chest. He has a gun...supervillains can do that?

The other heroes go into action. Granted, it's action that often conflicts or counteracts each others' action, but a short, bearded guy drives a forklift into...well, almost at Chopper, then he crashes into a wall and hops out, woozy and axe-toting.

DF Suggestions / Re: Proposal: 'Project Stages'
« on: October 08, 2012, 09:08:59 pm »
This sounds fairly reasonable, but I'm having trouble connecting it with megaprojects.

Think of making a pyramid: the first stage is the base, and the second stage (the Z-level above, natch) can't start until that first one is done.

I thought it was talking about jobs.
Sounds reasonable, especially if you can save some sort of template. For instance: Project Pyramid--15×15 floor surrounded by walls with an up staircase in the middle, pick 287 things to build it with. Next floor, pick 225 things to build that with, and so on and so forth.

It does make you wonder what the purpose of Dwarven colonies is though, since you always seem to be importing raw materials (lumber, ore, metal), and selling crafts.  Do the mountainhomes have only the most basic of industries?  I thought the purpose of colonies was to provide raw materials for the homeland.  You won't get very far in DF though selling logs and metal bars.  Maybe the purpose of the dwarven settlements is just to create new places for dwarves to live, and this effort is being heavily subsidized by the MountainHome.  Why else would the traders be willing to give you bars of pure shining steel in exchange for a few tattered pigtail cloaks?  Maybe the Mountainhomes are starting to invent paper, and are scrounging up all of the loose fiber they can get their hands on.
Hm....maybe this is bow the Mountainhomes dump their parasites?
Who says that Colonies HAVE to help the homelands in terms of physical resources? What about political power? Knowledge? Or just that a bundle of dwarves want a new home?
Well, as it is now the only thing one can claim that player fortresses provide in exchange for migrants and caravans is a place to dump migrants.

You can breath fire in the new version

...yes, and I'm pretty sure GreatWyrmGold was aware of this as soon as it was released 8 months ago.

I sure was! I was aware of it once the was announced, in fact!

Is it just me, or are firebreath kills not properly tracked?
