Zombie Chell uses her theremin to summon some other instrument players to form a band. [1] She summons a Superbronzecolossus who plays the tuba. Uh-oh...
The khajit army opens fire on SBC. [5] The fluffy-wambler-like marshmallows turn out to be its Kryptonite, leading to the shortest and most embarrassing supervillain defeat in history.

I barely understand what vector-based graphics are, but I'd bet Urists to unicorns that it's easier to modify images like the current graphics use than vector-based graphics, which would solve a rare and specific problem and cause other issues...not to mention that any kind of graphics would be pretty darn hard to mod with vectors...

It would mean nothing to modders, since graphics can be vectorized pretty easily.

Besides that, it's not exactly a rare problem. Zooming looks like shit as of now.
I have no idea how to make a vectorized, say, dwarf picture or &. Obviously, others probably have the same problem.
And I can honestly say that zooming has never bugged me.

Branches swinging across tiles sounds as hard to implement properly as entire rotating sections of fort would be.  (You know, hinging fortress walls.. at closed and 90 degrees open, easy to display, 45 degrees is hard, and how about positions inbetween?  Never mind the mechanics of ensuring that there's nothing 'in the way' along the arc.)

But a "branch is swinging in the wind" tile that affects anything on it... well, it'd be a universal (or, if not universal, single set/not-set, according to whether sheltered or open to the elements) value to branches that might cause "auto-fumbles/trips".

But I think you want a big swinging branch thing, yes?  Can't see that working, until DF is de-gridded and re-vectorised in its stead.
I don't think that branches on trees swing around anywhere except Hogwarts. Branches swaying in the wind makes sense.

you could have different phenotypes associated with different chromosomes. i.e hair color and skin color on one while size on another.
once you define the traits that would have alleles associated with them you could define the number of chromosomes. say i defined 30 traits to have different alleles  and 5 pairs chromosomes each chromosome would  control 6 traits with the 1st chromosome taking control of the first 6 traits defined the 2nd chromosome taking control of the 2nd 6 traits. all that is left is some sort of mutation system but i think that would be largely  pointless instead maby you could simulate some form of chromosome crossover.
I think it would be simpler to code and mod, and be practically identical if Toady just didn't code in chromosomes.

Problems abound, from figuring out how a goblin or a -<<+iron short sword+>>- should look like to accounting for injuries.

However, adding some sort of screen summing up various things--outer layers of clothes and armor on various body parts, major wounds, big scars, hair color, etc--would be nice.

At first, you should get enough to get you up to maybe a dozen by the fall caravan and 20-30 by the second caravan, assuming an average level of comfort and dwarven deaths. Immigration from populations of those frontiersdwarves would slow down around then and stop completely by the time your adult population was 50 or so, but if you try you should be able to get enough wealth and comfort and such to get migrants trying to find a better life than at the overcrowded, underemployed Mountainhomes. Basically, if you don't screw up or try to discourage migrants you should get at least a few each year, more in the beginning. How many colonies were founded with seven people and no expectation of more until they got their goldsmithing or something up?
