Huh, talking seems to attract people. A few goons with guns show up.

DF Suggestions / Re: Interspecies breeding
« on: September 26, 2012, 05:25:23 pm »
Excellent. So we only need to define inter-species hybrids and figure out if the main races (here defined as dwarves, elves, humans, and goblins) are one highly-differentiated species (like domestic dogs), four species (there are separate species MUCH more similar than elves and dwarves), or what.

What about the possibility that they're connected by a "chain" of closeness? One species is close enough to another, which is close enough to another, and so on.
For example Elf -> Human -> Dwarf -> Goblin (as an example). So in this chain elves could breed with humans, who could breed with dwarves, who could breed with goblins. An elf could never breed with a dwarf or a goblin, but maybe an elf-human hybrid could breed with a dwarf, or even a dwarf-goblin hybrid.

Also, what about sentients that aren't part of the major civilizations? Even if it wouldn't happen normally, I can imagine benefits to forcing out dwarf-beastmen hybrids for their predatory nature or amphibious merdwarves. It would introduce a whole new category of crimes against nature.
I'm not sure if species work like that. I suppose there's no reason they couldn't, but I can't think of why they should. If it works like that, we could discuss that.
And we could also discuss kobolds, trolls, or animalmen breeding with the four main races, but it seems improbable.

I would suggest using the minining skill, and setting it to weapon digger so you can dig with it.
ROW ROW, FIGHT THE POWAH!
Just setting the skill to mining works for that.
...No. It needs the DIGGER token in the entity to dig with, I'm pretty sure.
Really? That's odd.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Not Sure If This is the Game for Me
« on: September 26, 2012, 05:20:16 pm »
Okay, I'm probably going to get yelled at for this, but...You're doing it wrong.

Dwarf Fortress is not a game you can win, except by surviving forever. If you do, though, it gets boring and micromanagey because, when you get down to it, pretty much all you need is a farm, [ig tails and plump helmets, and the ability to deal with moods, say by locking up workshops.
You need to get out of your comfort zone. Don't let yourself build mechanisms, or make a huge tower outside, or force yourself to let every caravan in and buy all of their, say, armor and food before buying anything else. DF's Fun is what you make it.

Add some solid ingredients to another, more distant stockpile.

Granted. Your extra 98 arms make you pass out from not enough blood reaching your head.

I wish I had a non-outdated psychiatrist to look at my laptop and repair the damage the last psychiatrist did.

Again, why should quantum-level events have no effect ever on macroscopic ones?
Macroscopic objects are surrounded by too much EM noise and heat. So quantum decoherence occurs.
And this somehow stops the weirdness happening at the quantum level from being detected and transformed into a macroscopic event?

Granted. The psychologist is quite bad at psychiatry.
...Whups.

You get bananas. They are old and moldy.

I wish the psychologist was also a good psychiatrist.

Excellent, we can start.

Those who head to the bank discover an average, concrete-glass-and-steel bank, with a fortified vault and some special secure rooms to store stuff in, also fortified. From the outside, you can see that a battle is already raging within.

Meanwhile, the others find themselves in the apartment building, where the whole place seems to be trashed.

What does everyone do?

Yeesh, the product is...well, really wrong.
You need yarn cloth for a mood? You need CLOTH:NONE:CREATURE_MAT:YAK:HAIR or something like that. Also, you need a certain PRODUCT_DIMENSION, but I have no clue what it is.
