DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: the most dangerous type of lycanthrope
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:28:08 pm »
Supposedly, thirst and hunger get cured by transformations, and werebeasts transform often enough to avoid death by either.
Yes and yes, but they'll still want to drink and eat and charge :P

Being caught after transformation in battle is the worst case scenario I can think of. Then again, there's not like to be anything alive after an Elite Wrestler were-creature takes to the field, and even then it's still a naked elite wrestler.

I'd just lock up the werebeast somewhere. More resistant against injury, less against age...I'd say it'd be a great craftsdwarf, just have stuff dumped to it and have it dump stuff back down.

Station the militia at various points along the way, or have your miners carry steel picks. Picks are amazing weapons.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Most dangerous creatures?

Dwarves.

Followed by thralls, inorganic clowns with syndromes, inorganic titans and FBs with syndromes, bogeymen, inorganic clowns, inorganic titans and FBs, bronze colossi, dragons, organic titans and FBs with syndromes, necromancers, most other megabeasts in some order, goblins, giant badgers, semimegabeasts, elephants and other massive animals, badger men vampires, badgers, hooved animals, thieving birds, etc, in roughly that order. I probably left some out, but that's the general idea.

Zombies were left out on purpose--the zombifier is the dangerous bit.

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:20:08 pm »
Nothing. If it was a masterwork ring, he'd tantrum.

What would Urist do if granted a wish that could not be about booze, elves, or magma?

DF Suggestions / Re: Cut random gem, encrust with random gem
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:19:07 pm »
Well, we can't decide what stone our mason's going to use, so why should the gem cutter be any different? Increases the tension when you order a low-level gem cutter to practice: "Will he take the diamond or not? I really need that diamond later. Let's just pray for a high level cutter in the next wave then..."

Because gems are more valuable than stone? 95% of stone differs only in its magma-safety and color, most of the other 5% is mostly listed as economic stone. Besides, the way it is now may not always be the way it is...

dining hall is a gigantic bar/dining room and booze is for everyone .
Throw in a waterfall and I'm good. Or maybe some minecarts skipping across ponds at high speeds, holding random stuff, every so often...

Granted. You never said it was nice, or sane...

I wish for a more reasonable genie who is actually a genie to grant my remaining wishes.

Maybe next update, include a spoilered stocks list?

Alright, Lurina and James will take a short break for a honeymoon; Coleman will make sure the farm's okay and make some blocks; Thomas and Grant will haul the moose back to camp and start turning it into neat things like leather, food, and useable bones; Rosa will do something while preparing to surprise Grant and Tom with something; and I'll let Rosa's specifics and Ash's actions up to someone else, because I don't have any brilliant ideas.

The OP is probably just confused.

After a kill order is complete, dwarves will cancel it.

Did this get changed then? Last time I played they would kill it and would keep the order and just run around the body :p

Yes, it did. Surprised me in a pleasant way when it did.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Saving metal bars with armour
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:08:02 pm »
Shields take one bar.

You could make gold shields via reaction, though the forge isn't a workshop you can add reactions to. I usually keep a set of blank reactions and workshops in the raws, so that I can 'add' them mid-game if necessary.

No need for a reaction, just set the raws so that golden armor is allowed.

Yeah, but then you get the caravans turning up with gold breastplates and gold gauntlets and such.

Why is this a bad thing?

A lead chest? As in a breastplate or a storage chest?

Breastplate

Hm, sounds like it's a breastplate...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Killing a Mountain Titan
« on: September 08, 2012, 04:06:56 pm »
What is the Titan's description and where is is?
Quoted for emphasis.

We need to know what the titan is made of before we can recommend how to kill it. If it's made of some inorganic material (particularly a stone, gem, metal, or glass), anything short of a cave-in trap will probably have no effect at all, while a living creature (or one made of water/snow, ash, mud, vomit, grime, etc.) should be killable by marksdwarves. After all, every titan is different.
Especially the fluid materials--those can't hold up to anything.

cave in, your archers wont to jack against that thing....
You sure? Try dropping it down a deep hole. Then consider a cave-in.

Aside from being a crystal glass webber, what is it? Blobs are tougher than humanoids or cavies.
