Ask what the bartender will want to be hired. If it's under 1,000, hire him, too.
It's good for morale to have a combat bartender.

DF General Discussion / Re: Mundane Quests Ideas
« on: September 03, 2012, 12:52:32 pm »
Prospecting minerals and guarding jails isn't very ludicrously mundane, which I thought was the idea.

Can you babysit my kids for an hour or so? Than...um, please put down the axe.
Can you deliver this letter to Ostilith Pinkhearted? And be quiet about it. Please don't read the letter!
Hold this bin for me while I go inside the tavern and grab a drink for the road.
Alright, you wanna challenge? Drink a mug of Nguxlo's Nightcap and stay standing.

I'll take a drake, ideally a European dragon or some other dragon subspecies similar to a gold dragon. Name him/her/it GreatWyrmGold. GWG likes pearls and other gems, as well as gold, and wants to slay evil (exile) dragons for a living. Profession would ideally be something ludicrously unmartial.

Now that you mention it...Maybe I should use some other adjective.

Well, it would be good to get some experience in spaceflight before we locked ourselves into a tiny box of life in freefall for many months.

but the problem persist, how the hell i can trap a FB!
Words can't tell this so I'll just draw it badly:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The distance between the bridge should be around a dozen of tiles and it'd better to lock the door.

Or, webs.

Sometimes you get web immune FB's, so you have to be careful.

Wasn't the idea to catch a bioweapon FB?

When you say that buffalo hair kills dwarves, then they punch off limbs and take down elephant skin, you're exaggerating.
No, I'm not exaggerating. And for the record skin =/= hair.
Skin is heavier and has feet on elephants. Also, I showed what happens with hair earlier.

Quote
...Horse HOOVES. As in, made out of hoof. Buffalo and harse hair can't even stand up.
Besides, elephant kicks are plenty deadly.
Yes, but hair in DF can push with deadly force. This is all proven in Fortress mode.

Fortress.

Not arena.

Fortress.
Sorry, I don't buy it. I only have your hearsay. I'd at least need a post by someone else reliable, and some reason why fortress mode would skew the results more towards the hair than in arena mode before considering my results invalid. Even then, it had better be some pretty good post and reason...

Seeing as how the dwarf came out almost entirely OK...while I was disproving a specific claim that buffalo hair could kill dwarves. Buffalo hair can only bruise dwarves, as it lacks hooves and the ability to not fall apart. Stop misrepresenting my work!
No, that doesn't prove it. It only proves that you got a Dwarf to kill some buffalo hair in arena mode.
Didn't you say earlier that they had AVERAGE stats in arena mode?
Besides, if you can't go past bruising muscle, you're not going to kill. Especially since it lacks feet!

To the op, if you're unable to flood world with magma immediately as Stromko suggests, try at leas to dump one minecart of magma outside, maybe resulting grass fire will kill necros or set zombies on fire, which will destroy the corpses after you shoot them down.
Flaming zombies... Use with caution :P
Zombies...deal with with caution.
Also, I didn't say that.

Fire doesn't cross grassy ramps; you'd need to send out a flaming dwarf across all of the outside's z-levels to do that. It also doesn't cross rivers or anything.
Toady made fire cross zlvls IIRC now
Oh, really? I missed it.

That's true, but there's also some differences between caverns and islands, including:
Size--The caverns have more surface area per layer than the continents, because they extend under the oceans.
Energy Economy--No sunlight
Ease of Entry--Find a cave, go in it, congrats. No need to fly or drift or anything.
Other Species--On islands, there's mostly bugs, birds, and bats, along with other critters who were blown there or whatever. In the caverns, there's anything that wanders downstairs, plus a wide variety of bizarre creatures. I'd like to see relaxed anti-predator behavior there...

Gyrojets seem good. If not, then plain firearms are fine.
Maybe some kind of gauss gun?

How do you keep civilians from leaving through the magmagate while still causing goblins to come in by it?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The easiest evil embark?
« on: September 03, 2012, 11:54:23 am »
Well, evil is random. You could get nothing worse than dark gnomes and blood rains, or you could get zombies, huskifying fog, and sleet that causes things that walk in it to bleed from every orifice, alongside ogres and swarms of beak dogs. Lock yourself inside for a season and see what pops up.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How does Infection work?
« on: September 03, 2012, 11:52:36 am »
It is possible to get wound infections before you can be cleaned with grimey water. Cleaning can fix that, I think. Maybe surgery is needed.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Am I getting help, or at least paid travel expenses? We need to find big cities where a lot of Bay12ers live, and start the presentations there. That, and Kickstarters.
