Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They would make the best soldiers.
What, genetically engineered octopi locked into metal bodies and run by one of the craziest people around?
I suggest we sell them to the enemy.

1. Good idea. I think I suggested starting with a Lunar resort/secret military vase a while back.
2. There's no way we have enough stuff we're willing to sell to make a single colony anywhere.
3. Very risky.
4. That sounds like our warplan, and it requires a lot of resources to actually set up.

In short: Lunar resort.

Well, the problem with that is that if you just chew up a rock or a bunch of minerals, there's a good chance that your throat will be cut to ribbons from a bunch of sharp edges, or you just end up with a big rock sitting in your stomach that you can't actually pass.
...And that they don't contain most of the nutrients vital for life.
I dunno, a healthy adult male could probably live off nothing but clay and water for 3 weeks before dying horribly of malnutrition.
I think that the male would live just as well off of water and water, more or less.

dwarves don't exist , its just a stereotype about short people .
And I'm tallish.
...It was supposed to be a compliment about how dwarfy you are...

And anyway, I compost the apple core in our home compost bin (the county-provided one is used for bones and meat and stuff we don't want to rot right next to our house and attract coyotes).

I REALLY need to get myself a compost bin. After all, it saves money when it comes to buying fertilizer as long as you don't mind the smell. And it means throwing away less food, and actually using it for something useful, such as growing a garden and such.
I live in new york city, in a apartment building on the 7th floor. I don't need a freaking compost heap.
Is it true that they pronounce "coffee" like "cwaffee" there?

Also, balconies are lovely things, and if the guy below you plays annoying music just accidentally dump some compost down there.

You are such a dwarf...

Meh, that works.

With the tissue swap, make the crawlers entirely out of iron or steel or whatever. Makes them sturdier, although they still scuttle like cardhouses if the driver is one-shotted by an arrow or any equivalent ammo. Pretty sure that you can just add an ITEMCORPSE tag with appropriate metal bars as result from crawler death, although I recall that currently when wagons are destroyed they drop 2 logs. Their ITEMCORPSE also has only 1 log specified, so either it doubles that per wagon death, or it's a hardcoded feature to drop an extra log.
Why not have it drop a minecart-esque thingy on death? You could then melt it into some metal bars.

Suppish. So, With the fall of the general discussion threads, this is the last bastion of the program in th upper forums. So I've decided to restarrt this, but with less expectation of random people putting up modding parts. So, I've decided to put actual goals here. So how about we start by putting up the booze-blobs.
Glad this hasn't quite died.

Quote
Info about blob: made of booze, thick skin for a blob, tusks, trunk, war-ridable, milkable for booze.
Info about lizard military grunt: lizard humanoid, poisonous bite, other then that nothing specific.
The blob seems a bit silly.
The lizardmen would be cool. Is there any way to draft pets into the militia?

MHow would one go about making a futuristic gun? Like one that shoots lasers? I'm pretty sure that would be hard, if not impossible. And how about a workshop that creates a gas that cuts off a dwarf limb then makes it into another dwarf like someone else mentioned?
The laser-shooting thing would require you to make a material called "laser" and a reaction that creates a lasergun-ammo made of laser.

Yeah, but i'm going to use brainfreez's brain as a personal butler and give him a builtin jukebox and some rad dance moves.
Once we figure out the mind-transfer thingy, you can copy his mind into one of the cephalopod processing units I'll make and make a whole BUNCH of brainfreez butlers, without harming the original brainfreez! How awesome would that be?

I doubt it. We made our plans here, out of sight of the military and government. We should continue to do so.

the fight in not yet over , because DF is under development .
Real life has Dwarf Fortress. Dwarf Fortress does not have Real Life. End of argument.

I think all demons have blazingly high body temperatures. Maybe it's their materials. In that case, demon leather clothes would be a great gift for your nobles!

Hm, I hadn't thought of that. What you need is a ravenous vampire who secretly drinks the blood of his fellow dwarves, so you can send him out to look for a necromancer who wants to destroy your fortress. That could, scarily enough, work.
