DF Suggestions / Re: Prefered building materials.

IMHO, these should all be optional. Putting the closest material for the Workshop/Construction/Etc is often a good idea.

Of course. It should be rather more of a challenge  in a medieval fantasy setting. Off-topic, i had to find that one article, 110 montuark. Of course the wiki had to defend it as well. I can see why he wrote it, but completely unnecessary just doesn't cut it, somehow. Rectifying original post to include this.
Procedure 110-Montark or whtever it's called is supposed to be deeply disturbing. Nothing is creepier, after all.

On-topic, I think that something exactly like the SCP Foundation or the MIB would be a bad idea, but the general idea of groups who hunt, study, and/or destroy the occult, omnicidal, or other would be neat.

No. Screws don't transfer power, and screw presses don't need power.

I warned you...

EDIT: Because my dwarf is alive and the ending-credits-song from Portal is stuck in my head...well, I've got a few lines, but give me a sec, I'll be back. And by the time I am, my dwarf will likely be dead, but meh.

Hey if Corai gets a kobold I want a dragon.
Apply to the military, they'll be part of the zoological warfare program.

Hey if Corai gets a kobold I want a dragon.
I want a ridable flaming war-badger with wings that spews magma and has adamantine claws and silver fists and steel bones and shoots flaming webs.
...You'll need some paperwork for that, and the cybernetics department will need to pitch in.

Hey if Corai gets a kobold I want a dragon.
I want a ridable flaming war-badger with wings that spews magma and has adamantine claws and silver fists and steel bones and shoots webs.
I personally want a dog sized lizard then.
Submit an application and wait for me to start work on recreational biologicals.

I don't think you understand. There is no gate. There is no wall. There is no door. The entrance to the fortress is a staircase out in the open, which leads directly down and passes all the main levels of the fort. The zombies have easy access to literally every tile of the whole fortress besides the magma forges and mineshaft, which are guarded by traps to protect from cavern monsters.
...
You embarked within siege distance of a tower and didn't bother with any kind of defense?
Conscript your entire population. If the necromancer left these elf zombies here as a present and left to spread terror elsewhere, you might stand a chance if you don't let the numbers overwhelm you. If not, you'll be ready to reclaim faster.

Fair enough.

Found engraved on a wall in the mines:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Most carvings match writing patterns of GreatWyrmSteel, with certain parts matching that of certain deceased members of the fortress and part in an unknown hand.

Thirded. I'll take the third turn of StNPOIII.

EDIT: Because my dwarf is alive and the ending-credits-song from Portal is stuck in my head...well, I've got a few lines, but give me a sec, I'll be back. And by the time I am, my dwarf will likely be dead, but meh.

What is your population, what is your popcap, and have you been getting regular sieges?

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: August 21, 2012, 08:01:55 pm »
Nothing, she's unable to reach the site. The next dwarf to get there and mine, let's call him Cog, would choose option a, because that's how dwarf AI works.

What would Cog do when he saw Urist trapped in a pit?

I'll come in in a turn or two.

Erm...that's horrible and counter-intuitive, but it would work. Simply make your militia stunned on cage traps somehow (drop one z-level?), and then free them.
