Shields, however, are always best at highest quality (unless shield bash damage or weight are major issues for you)

A Dark Fortress is a megaproject made entirely out of Obsidian, one of the dorfiest materials in existence. It's not that hard for dwarves to develop Stockholm Syndrome  ;D

But it's infested with the most vile beings imaginable, and you have your very identity crushed until you are all but a mere goblin within a dwarven husk. Also, it smells.

He's letting us know for those of us who want the functionality of DT in the interface but either don't like DT on principle or want it all in one window. I don't care, because I don't use DT (or DFhack, for that matter), but some do care.

We still need miners. I hear rumors that the position of “Miner” is cursed, but I assign them anyways. I give the picks to the spinner/fishers, both married men. It would be so sad if the rumors are true and they did die…I couldn’t stand it! I already caused three miner deaths! I feel so ashamed, I can’t even bear it! I don’t deserve this crown!
…Did I really write that crap? That’s it, I’m staying away from the crown.
Alright, nothing much happens, but it’s autumn now. I guess I should draw some maps, since the year is halfway through.

This is the area by our magma forge and furnaces, along with a map of the parts of the magma sea that have been determined.

Here’s where the two miners landed. The bits of their body that were left have been retrieved and stored, awaiting burial most likely.

Here’s a room which will, one day, drop ores down to the magma sea. It’s not doing anything right now, because we don’t really have ores.

This is the refuse stockpile, also the place where people carrying sandbags walk through to get to the future sandbag drop area.
That’s really all I’ve got, not much has changed since the start of Summer. Aside from the magma, of course. And the miners’ deaths. And the slow progress on the cistern, which I won’t show until it’s pretty much done because I’m just that much of a perfectionist.

Short update, but I like pausing the updates at seasonal breaks.

Indeed. If you have a pot, you can get a honeycomb and some royal jelly, which leads to making honey (and possibly mead) and some wax for crafts with a screw press and another jug.

Screw presses do not contain screws of any kind. Discuss.

Make it unique. Another temple to Armok sacrificing nobles, elves, soapers, and the occasional goblin? Ho hum. A fortress made entirely out of soap? Huh, that's neat!

  Can we create custom evil clouds yet? They have the behavior of climbing up and over walls so it could be possible to cause this 'cloud' of steam to be generated and with no where to go it would climb the piping up. Would also be able to make it deadly in this way.
  I'm not sure if there's a maximum height that clouds will climb, I know its at least 2 levels at any rate.
You can create custom weather, but you can't use it like this. See, steam is kinda hardcoded.

Beekeepers are morons, and will sometimes either walk out into sieges or giant badger herds to collect bees or go to a hive someone else got to first and just stand there, confused, until they're almost dead of dehydration.

You could even make a sealed off mini-fortress populated exclusively by vampires and some fast-breeding nongrazer, and having a butchery, tanner's and leather workshop for clothesmaking. Make a chute where they can drop the meat, bones and excess leather to the fort proper.

Why not toss in some bonecarving, too? And maybe cooking. Maybe maybe soapmaking.
