DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Bloodwishes - Succession Game

So, Giant temple of blood, surrounded by magma, and has possibly chained demons. Horrifying sacrifices to a unamed entity. What else?
What else do you need?
Creativity!

Seriously, how many succession fortresses DON'T end up with some variety of a Temple to Armok at some point? That's why  advised other kinds of Fun temples, and tries to hint at people coming up with their own fun ideas! Even a plain old Temple to the God of Fire, where people and items are burnt as offerings, would be slightly better than plain old "Another temple to Armok! Were so originil!"

Creativity is great. Yes, its cliche. However, at least there is a goal besides: Don't die.
Obviously there's that goal. No one, not even the StNPO forts, has not had that goal.

No, real dwarves MELT the goblin iron, and reforge it into fine dwarven steel!

That's what Toady said the cutoff date is for technology.

I'd advise stationing your squad near the enemies.
Escaped lunatics are newer than bay watchers, i.e. have made fewer posts.

Ideally, continue on a thread about magic with ideas similar to yours.

Really? ALL metal armor? Even armor invented before arrows became widespread and swords or lances were mode of an issue? Even armor meant for tournaments or ceremony?

Alright, geez.
Say, are you making iron stuff or saving for steel?

DF Suggestions / Re: Phase-out flag for stockpiles
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:11:51 am »
Question 1: Why not just delete it?
Question 2: Couldn't you set the stockpile to not accept any items, and THEN delete it once everything's been moved? Loading items onto minecarts from the stockpile might help.

Oh, worth mentioning: once you descend below the surface of the forums, it may take a long time to get back up. Be carefull.

EDIT:
Oh, and dont adbandon. wait until the last dwarf is dead or found vampire. Recovering is half the challenge.
I wouldn't even abandon then!

And the graphics. That turns off loads of people. And, by the time we reach this hypothetical "User-friendly" point, graphics will have advanced to the point where some players just hear that the graphics arent stunningly realistic, and will automatically stop.
I love the ASCII graphics. They're responsible for turning me into a gaming recluse.
This. I prefer looking at a bunch f ,'s and g's and /'s and smiley faces and ~'s, and imagining a battlefield strewn with weapons and corpses and covered in blood, over whatever shoddy graphics engine could hope to encompass the awesomeness and complexity that is DF without melting my CPU.

User friendly DF? Not gonna happen. Hell will freeze first, etc.
Well, it's not impossible. After all, the bottom of Hell described in Dante's Inferno was already frozen over.

Well, forgotten has two T's, but I'm the First Officer of the Really Great Organic Technology, Engineering of New Biological Equipment, And Stuff, Thing. Can you get another T in there? No.
(P.S: I run the Bioweapons, Internal Organs; Growing Lethal and/or Desireable Organics Section of this project.)

As to hive: What do YOU propose?
Greatwyrm, you are 7 out of ten of the last posters in my new replies section. I wonder why.
I tend to post-binge. Open up the six subforums I care about, open all the interesting-looking threads with new posts (one subforum at a time), read, reply, go on to the next thread.

H.I.V.E.M.I.N.D. sounds like a cool name.
I know. However, I'd advise coming up with your own acronym because I couldn't get an E into mine. "Electrical," maybe? Heuristic Intelligent Vehicles of Electronics for Multiple Interesting/Notable Devices?

Now there is a hard choice. Use harddrives to store you on or keep your brain?
Harddrive has as pro that we could make backups of you. Tough i dont think it will be as easy to combine multiple people into a supercomputer as with brains.
Brains are more sensitive for a zombie apocalypse tough.
Hard drives, if possible; brains can break down and are harder to make backups of. Also, brains don't come with USB ports.

Let's get to other things, please. Like food.

Assuming how stupid the dwarves are, I don't think THAT will work.
It would certainly stop them from actually wearing them as clothes, though whether or not it would stop them from claiming them and then just throwing them on the floor is up for grabs.

As for why it's not showing up, I'm not sure. You did try scrolling down in the workshop list right? (Obligatory stupid question.) Other then that the only thing I can think of trying is moving it into another workshop and seeing if it shows up there to see if the problem is with the workshop claiming the reaction instead of the reaction itself.

AFAIK workshops do increase the value of the room they are in by the value of their items.

Display cases are, technically, workshops, and I've had them increase values of rooms massively before.

Dear Urist.

This is a nice embark. A very nice one indeed. Deep soil, sand, clay, and there's gold everywhere once we dig down. Even though everything is friggen blue and sparkly, it's a nice place. So why exactly did you park the wagon in the MIDDLE OF A GROUP OF ALLIGATORS?

(Quickest fortress destruction I've had in a good few months)
Reclaim. Oh, and dwarven wagons are dropped in by trained rocs.

Dear dwarves of WhipChane:

THERE IS A MASSIVE STOCKPILE ONLY TWELVE SPACES AWAY FROM THE BUTCHERS SHOP AND FARMS! For the love of Armok almost 20 of you say you have no jobs, so STORE SOME OF THE FOOD THAT YOU'VE LEFT ROTTING FOR 3 SEASONS!!!!!!! I need those mushrooms stored so i can brew and that meat from the war elephant who starved to death last month so you don't DIE, now i'm trying to make the caverns safe so i can set up a magma foundry and give you militia armor and weapons, SO HURRY UP!

- Sincerely your frustrated and bitter overseer.
You can't butcher tame animals that died of natural causes! Union rules.

Sincerely,
Urist McClerk.
