DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Why are some of my weapons red?
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:43:01 pm »
They're red because someone is already using them. Don't re-assign them, or the first dwarf to have been assigned it won't be able to use the weapon. Dwarves don't share well.

I am not on drugs!
And my steampunk computer keeps overheating and burning down much of the town, so I've stopped trying to fix it by court order.

I'd say $2mil for travel, plus a certain amount (probably in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per day range, possibly varying based on accommodations) for rent, plus food expenses, plus they'd want to get plenty of souvenirs.

Pretty much every skill affects the speed of its task.

Most farming skills, mining, woodcutting, stone-smoothing, building, and thread-weaving benefit from higher skill only by speed.

whatever you do, give them frills
Maybe a few subtypes...

Gecko--Dunno. They'd climb if they could.
Chameleon--Slow, but can hide. Probably have grasping feet.
Frilled--Have a frill; good at fleeing and social skills.
Iguana--Probably rage-prone.
Monitor--Big guys, strong but dumb.
Glass--Snake-shaped.
All would have prehensile tails, which I know isn't realistic, but it's cool.

Great challenge though I don't think the fort has the population to do it in one turn while fighting the zombie horde.
Only 7 of us remain.
Oh, my. I'd like a new dwarf, a smith if possible and anyone working with flames if not--e.g, furnace operators, wood burners, potters, and so forth.

On the 12th of Felsite, the cook gave birth to a littlecreeper seed*. The father is arbiter787, the manager.
Rigoth, the creator of Mournfulcheerful, has been making great wooden bolts.
On the 16th, an op was seen. Just as it escaped, another was found.

These blows were quickly followed by retrieving the axe from the op’s torso and decapitating it.
I realized something: This “recruit” is none other than Rigoth, who killed not only this op, but also three giant sparrows! Clearly, he must be rewarded. For starters, he gets to use the op’s dagger.
Shortly after this triumph, several giant keas showed up. I sent the militia to guard the fortress entrance! The militiamembers who were outside saw the keas  and charged…Meanwhile, some others calmly gathered wood in the middle of the battlefield. One creeper was injured. The battle came to the courtyard; the archers fired, the others charged. A dead giant kea was retrieved from the walls by a vigilant civilian. Others gathered teeth** from the casualty, or rather from where he lost them, but were frightened off by the keas. A fisher calmly fished as a kea tried and failed to attack it. Logem Granitetin, loving wife and head of the markscreepers, became an elite markscreeper. A giant kea falls into the courtyard and is quickly dispatched by Rigoth, making this his third giant kea kill…three out of three, and he killed three out of five of the giant sparrows. Rigoth is better at killing giant birds than the rest of the militia combined, and he doesn’t even have a crossbow! A giant kea is shot out of the sky, meaning that either Rigoth no longer has a monopoly on them or else he’s gotten pretty good at throwing that silver knife. More stuff happens, I’ll just describe the aftermath.
Well, most were killed. One bled to death, another had its head bashed in by an out-of-ammo markscreeper. One escaped, taking with it a bolt. In the chaos, no one noticed that the titanic slime had reverted to a wild state…***

*Fun fact: The new seed likes adamantine.
**Why do creepers have teeth?
***Update shortened for drama.

Agree with extautionate prices. If people pay $1.5billion to fly round the moon (and they are, takeoff in 4+ years if you're interested), they can and will pay $20 to drink juice on the moon. Ditto with coffee shop on Mt. Everest.

That's just for a few hours orbiting.
Hm, so maybe the round-trip would be $1,999,999.99, not counting lodging and such. It'll be a bargain! Then we gouge them with the souvenirs, food, maybe a time-share presentation or a request to help find the Martian colony project, and we're good. Maybe throw in some advertising deals with Terran companies.

Thank you. The lizardman idea needs a bit of work to fit my image, or vise versa, but it will do nicely...

No, but big changes mean old fixes won't work right. Example: When the z-axis was added, pretty much everything needed to be changed. This would include most old bugfixes. Add in the bugs inherent i adding a big, new feature like that and you're back where you started, at best.

How will he make shelter if he can't cut trees or mine? Theft?

So...call it, around $1.5 million for a round-trip from Terra to the 12th Bay Lunar Resort (which also happens to have a secret base underneath it), plus lodging, food, activity, and other such costs; or, for the more impoverished, $499,999 to take a spaceplane JUST out of the atmosphere! (Minimal or no cargo.)

Great, all we need now is the reusable spaceplane, the Lunar base, and the fuel. And advertisement.
