Hm, maybe I should, too.

isn't that a bit too extreme , if we decide to start a war with the terra we are going to die unless we strike them when they least expect it (Christmas) and we make sure their deaths are quick enough not to give them time to raise suspicion and nuke the mars .
Or convince them that we will be just and benevolent overlords, but cruel and destructive war-wagers. In other words: Sane rule, horrible and terrifying superweapons.

that means we cannot beat the earth , because our community is about few hundred humans , that means we would lose the war with earth in the first day .

and i know people will be against soul energy and test tube creatures , this will turn all the world against us .

we would lose huge support and die in the space .
We have a few thousand, and if we get a lunar base before the Terrans have good spacecraft (or if we can get a fortified lunar fortress set up quickly enough), we can fire at Terra with impunity.

No, I'm pretty sure it's probability based. You would never be 100% certain of blocking all of the radiation. Not that you'd want to if you wanted sustainable living, because some types of radiation (ultraviolet largely) are pretty important to have some of.
Notably the fact that ultraviolet radiation is the primary energy source of self-produced vitamin D. So tanning increases vitamin D.

So, vitamim D supplements, what else do we need?
Centrifuges. If the Terrans can beat us in hand-to-hand combat...that's just embarrassing.

First of all, Telepathy>German (or any other spoken language). Second, soul energy is not evil, damn it!
Soul energy could be perceived as evil, though. Unless we can prove that the soul is as happy in the generator as they would be anywhere else, and even then we'd have religious types on our backs.

And no, we're not going to be space nazis. We should strive to create a society unique from all others that have inhabited Earth. I don't know about any of you, but I don't want our great martian empire as to be remembered as, "Like [insert Earth group here], but on Mars."
What about "Bay12ers on Mars?"

this thread has more than enough evidence to raise suspicion about our project .
Again, I'[m afraid I might be on the no-fly list.

EMBARK ON OLYMPUS MONS.
Because this is cheaper then Canada?

You used the wrong "than".

Grammatik ist wichtig, junge. Wir bringen die volle Macht des Dritten Comma mich auf Sie, wenn Sie noch einmal scheitern!

Google translate. I couldn't resist myself. I'm sorry please don't kill me.

The translation looked like a bunch of incoherent words, but then I analyz(s?)ed them.

I am almost completely sure if you put that in google translate again, it would come out as gibberish.
Probably. Using my limited German, you said:
Grammar is watching. Was bringing the Massive Vole the [????] Comma my of [some preposition?], when [same preposition] night in my [????]
...Maybe I should ask my Grandma.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Cross-Breeding?

IRL, I think water buffalo and yaks are about as likely to interbreed as, say, hippos and pigs.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Adamantine smelting needs fuel
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:48:32 pm »
A flattened mesh would be fine for armor, but how would a flattened mesh form and retain a superior keen edge? It must be solid at some point. There's no need for smelting otherwise.
Simple: Make the edge of the axe or whatever into a cutting plane, and make the rest into a sort of meshy thing. This would help the potential issues associated with friction, too--wires have less surface area than a flat surface.

Good point. I guess we would need to go back to the old "splitting bolt stacks and melting down the individual bolts" method then. :P
Or you could just use coins, since those still only need 1 wafer to make.
Weird.

Basically, bags are treated as chests or coffers would be ~90% of the time.

You might find underground animalpeople, though.

DF Suggestions / Re: Adding Multiplayer/LAN to Dwarf Fortress

Therefore... I demand that the next release of DF should only be fully loaded upon typing in a 128-character time-limited passphrase available only through entering registration details on a secure web-page, receiving and replying to a confirmation email, providing a number obtained from a personalised hashing calculator in the process.
...You're joking, right?

While I can see this thread being a little off-putting to an honest-to-Armok new player, I think they'd have to understand our general frustration.  (I also didn't get the impression that it was a Troll, but then a good Troll wouldn't look like one, and a non-Troll might look obviously like one because they didn't know better in the first place, so I've no idea where that leaves that bit of Game Theory.)  I wandered in here after posting an (I hope) helpful "Yes, this has been suggested before, as you've just edited", with pointer to the Eternal Suggestions thread.  I think I also saw in the most-recent-threads-in-this-subgroup a title asking for restricted posting to here.  Going to check that out as well, see if I agree with it or not.  (First thoughts, no I don't...  But maybe allowing people to do so after having undertaken some sort of automated test on "how to search for regularly suggested things"?  A kind of equivalent to the Altar Of Literacy in KOL prior to using their chat, I suppose...)
Makes sense.

DF Suggestions / Re: Improved wrestling/Blunt damage

Because slow =/= incapable of hurting? A better idea would be to ignore unconscious critters until the conscious ones have been taken down.
yea maybe, but that wouldn't change that undead lumps of guts could fight dwarves for months
Uh...wha? First off, guts can't be reanimated unless you've got some SERIOUS modding going on; second off...uh, I have no idea what you're trying to say, actually.

DF Suggestions / Re: Restricting Suggestion Posting
« on: August 15, 2012, 09:40:59 pm »
It's pretty close to what we do now: the "oh god, not a multiplayer thread again" comments. It works quite well, and it's impossible to prevent all undesirable threads from coming into the forum by a few simple rules/laws.
This, big time.

That being said, maybe a limit of one thread created per day would prevent newbies going on a suggestion spree and focus their discussion somewhat. Most people will never even know the existence of that brake, so it's not particularly cumbersome.
It might help sometimes, but it would annoy others at least as often. Unless maybe that limit was applied only to the Suggestions subforum.

Again, I don't know how the forums are coded, so I don't know how simple something like this would be.

DF Suggestions / Re: Restricting Suggestion Posting
« on: August 15, 2012, 04:49:29 pm »
The first requirement would encourage people to post random posts on the forum until they had 50.
There is no filter a deliberate and malicious person can't get around.  This restriction is more about ending the "I know nothing of anything, let me introduce myself by requesting a major overhaul" type threads posted in complete ignorance of what the community already knows and the general trends in what it wants.  You know, the kind of knowledge you pick up spending time around the other boards talking with people.
I understand the logic behind the first part, but not the second. Also, I think that it would be more annoying and time-wasting than helpful...assuming that the forum's code can even be altered like that for one subforum.
A better idea would be some sort of thread to collect all of the oversuggested ideas, that would be stickied so that new posters couldn't claim ignorance of how oversuggested their ideas are. That would also be easier.

What if we let people post in the suggestion forums at will (regardless of how many posts they have, good inspiration can strike anyone), but if they post something that's been done to death and clearly a function of them not using the search function at all, we heckle them mercilessly for it?
Not too bad, but it might scare people off. Meh, probably worth it.

Bridges don't need support in DF. That doesn't mean you shouldn't give them support, mind you...
