Frankly, most people don't care about logistics. Watching the orcs cart wheat across Mordor isn't exciting; watching orcs get killed by Legolas, Gimli, etc, is. So the latter gets added, the former doesn't. A movie that inflates its length by showing the 99% of the time nothing interesting is happening is going to do poorly, so they only show the interesting 1% and let the website, interviews, or whatever explain the relevant bits of the 99%.

Maybe everyone who dies in an evil biome has his/her/its soul tied to the land, and has to either possess something or be tortured. The lucky end up possessing thralls and zombies; the unlucky provide blood rain.

That's because mosquitoes were set to spawn in swarms of 100+, and giant mosquitoes did the same. Giant cave swallows haven't been reported as having the same kind of problem, and I think they might have been made completely separately, without creature variations.

Also, cave swallows don't spawn in flocks of 30,000.

He did. Even dwarven BABIES have killed forgotten beasts.
