DF Community Games & Stories / Re: StNPO - 2 - How are we even alive?
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:35:16 am »
Where is the the lever that controls the drawbridge?  If I could just open that It'd already help immensely.
I can't remember making one in all honesty, I don't think it's ever been opened, you only need 4 stones to make a new one though:

1 for a mechanic workshop, 3 for mechanisms, 1 mech for the lever and 2 mech's for linkage
If it hadn't been made the bridge wouldn't be raised.  Thus there's a lever and I need to find it.
Eh, my bad, but either way I think you missed my primary point, make another lever.
I'd really rather not.  That'll make life absurdly confusing in the longrun.  I'd much rather just pull every lever around and see what they do :D

It's a personality test! See, I without fail would chose the option of de-constructing every lever and then building new ones as they were needed, using trial and error would never have occurred to me.
That's because the levers around here are linked up to deathtraps.
Good so you see the appeal in mindlessly pulling them. :D
Kinda, yeah. It means I get a new dwarf.

DF General Discussion / Re: The Carnivore Thread

Gnome would be a lot less stringy than kobold, what with the lazy living. Dwarven bodily fluids probably range from 40-80 proof, so you could probably get drunk from eating dwarven flesh, Maybe that's why elves get angry when we sell them wood--they're looking for an excuse to kill some dwarves!

I think it would stay a domestic animal, but I don't know.

Please elaborate. Do you mean as one of the vauinted figures of legend, or as something in-game?

DF Modding / Re: Armored and armed trolls
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:28:00 am »
I think there might be hardcoded issues, but you could create a type of troll called a "War Troll" or something, which has armor as a body part and/or tissue, and weapons as body parts. Downside: Without butchering sentients and fiddling around with the butchery item tag thingy, you won't get any use from the troll weapons or armor.

I can do... whatever you ask me to :P
Glad for the enthusiasm!

You must be able to bring pet kobolds. You must.
Hm. Would these be tame or kleptomaniac kobolds?

I was not planning to add things like that in. Well, maybe cloning, but I can't think of how to do that.
You make the dwarf transform into a creature that instantly has a limb fall off, then transform back, raise the limb, and have the limb transform into a dwarf. That's the basic cloning method.
I'd like to see something like that. Could you do it? I'm...a bit bad with interactions.

Would something like this work for cloning?

Just with out golems

Would entirely work for "droid production"
Or at least cyborgs.

Are you guys going to try and do it like a realistic space sim, or is this going to be a walking around breathing mars air sort of mod?
I'm terrible at DF modding but I'm one of the people who run the Spacestation 13 server D2Station, so if its the prior I'll certainly be interested in seeing how this goes.
But if its the latter, I'll probably give it about as much attention as I did for the "My Little Pony" mods.
I'm not sure. Realistic would be nice, but DF has certain assumptions, like breatheable air. Hm...maybe everyone has a "spacesuit" body part, which includes an air tank that they need for breathing?

Also: I don't know if its possible, but using perfect world you might be able to make ingame "Asteroid fields" if you dink around with how world erosion and layers happen, resulting in floating islands of stone at different levels.
I don't think this could happen, it wouldn't last contact with physics, and there aren't asteroids on Mars. Neat idea, though.

Would 'Ultima : Martian dreams' be any inspiration to this project?  having its own martian tilesite would probably help the mood
Could be.

In terms of domestic creatures, there are a few, interesting, things that have come out of the original thread. How abou the chicken cow? That wont be hard to mod I imagine. We also have grunt lizard people soldiers.
That must have been in the couple dozen pages I had missed. Both sound neat.

EDIT: Here's this for an idea: How about some kind of sealed containers from the early days, before the industrial magma accident or whatever destroyed the central authority? They could contain anything from neat laser weapons to powered armor to cyborging or cloning tools to deadly plagues to awesome plagues (which are probably somewhat detrimental as well)...

It also explains adamantine's low density, and the fact that its liquid density is higher.

They don't. Not right now, at least.

We should make either Esperanto or Dwarvish the official language of our settlement.

Throwing works better than propelling. Dropping long distances works better than throwing.

DF Suggestions / Re: Shelves
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:02:34 am »
We're not talking about shelves reaching up 10-20 feet (although, since there's no reason those couldn't have existed, they'll likely be added when we can play humans/goblins/whatever), we're talking about shelving units three shelves high with shelves as tall as a bin and a quarter or so. More efficient, and less digging. Also realistic.

DF Suggestions / Re: Hyper-realistic military action
« on: August 14, 2012, 11:00:25 am »
In addition, DF is high on realism. Even if goblins had to live off of the milk, blood, and eggs of their mounts, and then let them graze or hunt, then that would be implemented by DF 1.0.

2 is also planned, about the same time when dwarves stop shooting at goblin teeth and tigers stop ripping off peoples' toes. In other words, when the game is complete enough that Toady feels like he can change the AI and won't need to keep changing it every version, most likely.

Again, I'm a bit confused. When would there be forbidden stone among forbidden goblinite?
