An engraving is always one character.

Just use a normal pegleg and grab a stick or belt or something to stick other stuff on.

Wait, 34.25? Did I miss a dozen updates?

Putting aside the fact that losing half of your body is invariably fatal, how would the hauler get around?
He can lean forward and roll around on his wheelbarrow arms most of the time. When he gets to a minecart track, he sits his minecart ass down and gets another dwarf to give him a good shove to get going. Also he didn't die from the accident because, although he lost half his body, he regained more of a body than he had before in the form of metal hauling tools. If being more machine than man was good enough for Darth Vader, it's good enough for Urist!
Darth Vader could hold lightsabers, use the Force, and move. Having whole wheelbarrows for arms would not only be hard on your shoulders, but since they end i wheels, would be unable to move you much.

if you sharpened it you would be sinking into the round every step. Even on stone. It would suck.
Not if you hop everywhere on your good leg.
Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of a pegleg?

Zombies are surprisingly fragile. A few good blows can more or less knock the animating force out of them. The trick is keeping them de-animated...

True...No metal items, then. Probably no rock items, either. So, pretty much just wood and stuff you can carry around in wood. And goats.

Make sue you have some way of carting supplies to the Chosen dwarves. Also make sure that only they get to enjoy the spoils of the caravans.

Goats or cavies or something, to represent tame native wildlife.

Chuck the pick--why would a ship have one? Maybe bring an anvil and some ore, though--those are common trade goods.
Actually, you need to consider the purpose of the ship before figuring out what you could have. All ships would have the aforementioned cavies/goats/whatever, plus some wood from the ship, plus some supplies they fished out of the water. Merchant ships would also have trade goods, possibly including weapons, ore, or anvils. Warships would have weapons (other than picks), armor, and ammo. Colony ships (a la Swiss Family Robinson or the Mayflower [?]) would have anything you'd normally bring on an embark. You get the idea.

Every dwarf has at least a couple points in swimming.

For extra challenge, no dwarf has any useful skills except those which they'd reasonably have from their background--Negotiator and Appraiser and such for merchants, military skills for warships, random skills for colonies, etc.

Yeah I did think about the fell surgeon, what if he made his patient into a back brace for his patient, then realized his mistake and went on a killing spree with the brace? Actually, I just had a great idea for surgery fell moods. Instead of the normal 'Kill Urist, make bench out of Urist', what if the surgeon kept Urist alive, and attached him to another dwarf. Urist McTwoHead will be the talk of the whole fort!
Which historical figure data would it use? Aside from that issue, adding random body parts from the poor "reagent" dwarf to the "patient" would be...neat.

Also the pick arm thing was just an example; obviously not everybody would get the same replacement parts. For example, let's say Urist McHauler got half his body melted in a horrible magma accident, but survived. We wouldn't give him a pickarm, we'd replace his buttocks with a minecart and his two arms with a wheelbarrow.
Putting aside the fact that losing half of your body is invariably fatal, how would the hauler get around?
(And I know not everyone would get pickarms...)

Also the adamantine pegleg is totally practical. You can use the flask because the whole leg is detachable, and you can mine just by stamping your foot if you order the leg to be forged extra sharp. Also, since Adamantine is the strongest material known to dwarf, you can easily detach your leg and use it as an indestructible lever to crowbar stuff open.
You never said the leg was detatchable, and if you sharpened it you would be sinking into the round every step. Even on stone. It would suck.

I remember someone here having a queen/drunk.

If that was a dwarven queen, it's redundant.

Sadly, I don't have nearly enough dwarves dying in awesome ways. I could write a good-sized book on the dwarves who died of their own stupidity, of course, but who can't?

If you think about it no werecreature is actually NOT menacing.
Hell even a weretortoise or weregopher would be scary as fuck if it were after you.
Until it turns into a naked person. Then it's just awkward.
