So, wait..."No Job" would be those who can't take any jobs, due to a lack of jobs that the dwarf can do and path to?
Sounds...reasonable...

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: June 23, 2012, 09:52:43 pm »
Nothing. It's like the old parable of the donkey and two equally-sized bales of hay, except that the sock is inched closer as the dwarf's thirst increases by a cruel cat.

What would Urist do if a goblin killed the cat in the middle of this process?

Cellmonk, you should bring some military dwarves. If not, you don't have a chance in HFS of getting underground before the zombies get them, and if you don't get underground before the zombies get them, I will have to reclaim a fortress that has a crapton+9 zombies (assuming you don't buy any domestic animals, only bringing the two pack animals).

Since I have the next turn, I'll give you a suggestion: Give all 7 dwaves the carpentry labor on embark, and bring a bunch of logs (at least ~20). Build a bunch of walls around the wagon. Once they're all up, SAVE. Then, select some of the dwarves in the walls to be miners or whatever and work from there. Try to completely seal off the entrance, even from flyers, once everything's inside. Oh, and post brief descriptions of the survivors' personalities, skills, and so forth so that we can start dwarfing.
I have a feeling that no sieges are going to get very far...

That would fall under the category of "not a goblin."

Or do you mean for not being scary? You should also bear in mind that critters don't instantly die when dropped into magma. That's what my idea is about--if Mr. Magmacrab is seen, the dwarves won't be scared unless they know about the "spitting basalt" thing.

First off, stats cap at 5000 normally, so I doubt this would be able to cause them to exceed the cap.

Also, how does this help the central idea? Sure, it's kinda useful sometimes, but not as neat as catching sharks (that's my favorite idea) or summoning bee swarms (another of my favorites, and not as OP as it sounds--bee venom isn't that bad, and beekeeping is kinda rare to get at legendary levels).

So far, it's mostly been about trying to figure out what the thread's about.

I would like to see that Pokemon. That may be the only time I ever say anything like that, so treasure it.

Say, if we're working in advance, should we post updates on what we've done? I've just started today.

If I were you, I would do as Toady does: Make sure what I've got is playable, release that, and not make some placeholders for when I get around to doing things right.
Besides, if you're getting sick of textscreens, fiddling with regen won't help.

DF Modding / Re: Chimera

It sounds a lot like the original, mythical chimera to me. Maybe it should have goatlike hooves?

Except the original didn't have wings (or hooves). Was just curious really, I like to see where people get their myths from.

I missed the wings, and thought the original had hooves. I guess it varies on where you get your tellings of Greek mytholoy from.

Yes, but if it only applies to horrible death-chambers intended to be entertaining to dwarves, that is both stupid AND in violation of dwarven ethics.

except military dwarves already take pleasure in slaughtering their enemies.  So it's not.  I'm not talking about eating intelligent species, rather finding happiness at witnessing the death of the enemy of the fort.  Also, when you consider that magma disposal of enemies is already how many fortresses take care of the vast quantities of goblins in cages, it makes sense to have a positive kick out of the process.
I'm talking about [TORTURE_FOR_FUN:UNTHINKABLE]. By dwarven law, it's fine to be glad you're defeating the vile foes that invaded your home, but tossing goblins into a magma pit (not a fun way to die) as entertainment would fallfirmly into the "torture for fun" category.

Wait, the flooding killed the fort?

...Wow, that's one of the stupidest things I've ever said.
(Q: Did the flooding actually drown everyone, or did zombies get the survivors, or did zombies get everyone, or did you abandon like an elf?)

...wait, are you saying the endgame is boring, or that it's LESS boring?

If the latter, I have to wonder why you chose the title. If the former, I have a single word for you.

"How?"
