...It's incomprehensible when everything's named the same, and generally better to have multiple discrete units so that you can understand things better?

13 coal?!? Seems a bit excessive.
Something like 4-5 coal should be enough to mark it as more pure.

Doesn't bituminous coal produce like 9 coke these days? I'd say 13 would make sense.

Maybe. I don't use coal that much...maybe I should...but I don't...
Well, if bituminous makes 9, 13 would be perfect for anthracite. That's +4 fuel/level in a neat leveled system of coal.

Oh, I hope not...all the mechanisms in the WORLD won't help us if we need to face zombies, and all of the friendly zombifying interactions ANYONE can mod won't help us against husks...

Allow me to rephrase that: A not-too-unrealistic method of implementing Xantalos's idea might be to allow barehanded parrying, albeit with a chance of hand injury varying on handwear and skill. After a parry, perhaps unarmed attacks/grappling on that bodypart could be easier for a brief time (approx. 1 turn).

You could order that if you thought a demand, whether from a noble or from a civilian, was unreasonable. The demand would be dropped, everyone would get a nasty thought, and dwarves might keep their demands to themselves, leading to bad thoughts ("Urist McSuggester has been unhappy recently. He has been afraid to speak his mind recently.")

On the other hand, one or two of those ideas could work. For instance, parrying bare-handed could be semi-realistic (especially with stuff like training or elven weapons, or if the wrestler is actually slapping away the weapon, especially considering that the wrestler is probably actually wearing some kind of gloves), and the turn after such a parry it might make sense for grabbing the attacking limb more easily.
Counterstabbing someone in the chest lethally should be impossible barehanded, unless of course there's a size differential or something.

I hope you don't mind me saying that this thread is becoming increasingly confusing. Erm...actually, I can't think of anything that would help, since it seems that I'm confusing everyone as much as I'm starting to be confused.

Why is that people call units of value dwarfbucks? I think it's more fun to stick to the convention of calling units of everything Urists. This sock is worth X Urists. Also has the added value of implying that the worth of an individual dwarven life is considered to be a fraction of the worth of a sock.
It gets incomprehensible. Imagine trying to explain that, for a price of less than 50 urists per urist, you can raise the temperature of an area by ten urists for 1,200 urists. Sabe?

I'm not sure what Pikdome was thinking about. Nor am I certain what incarnation is. (I know what reincarnation is, but I'm fairly certain that that's different.)

I was originally thinking of this, only with more vomit, magma, and beards.

DF Suggestions / Re: Air pressure and power

FPS is a major issue already. Consider that, unlike most current FPS hits, air is omnipresent from the beginning of an embark. At least, if it isn't, you're in trouble and not likely to last long.

That said, if this is added, it could replace things like current windmills with actual fluid-movement wind, create better air pressure things for caveins, and even allow strong winds to move creatures and objects like currents do. If it wasn't for the FPS thing, this would be an awesome suggestion.

3. Unskilled dwarves have non-craftsdwarf options. Perhaps they'd have a chance of any moodable skill, with craftsdwarf skills having higher chances and forging skills having lower ones (for instance). Or maybe currently non-moodable skills should get kinds of moods assigned to them.
...
I hope I don't sound rude, but will you please read other peoples' posts before posting? (Or did you just not realise there was a second page? That's happened to me before.)

Thank you. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

I'm not sure about the ripping off limbs thing (it sounds too much like a scene from a bad kung-fu movie), but the rest sounds reasonable. The problems are twofold:

1. Higher unarmed combat skill does not lead to more powerful attacks, only more precise ones. This would be good to change, and for that matter it should be that way for all military skills to a lesser extent. (I'm imagining a legendary axedwarf who grew attatched to a training axe still cleaving goblins in half because he's an axelord.)
2. Injuries don't reliably cause death unless they damage the lungs or nerves leading to the lungs (causing suffocation), damage the brain (instant death), or casue a lot of bleeding (obvious). Blows to the throat should cause breathing issues, the heart should be more than an organ that bleeds a lot, and so forth...but right now, they're not. This is the bigger issue, IMHO, because it affects all combat. It might be awesome for your militiadwarves to survive arrows to the heart and throat, but it's less so when every red-shirt goblin can do the same thing.

See that screenshot with the troll? Put a wall in the staircase to the right. There, troll can't get in!
Unless the troll has already broken down the door.

It's too late. That screenshot is the frame I saved on; as soon as I open up it'll crash down that door.

I'll see what I can do with the miner. Luckily, the caverns having been busted into, I can have him dig out a large chamber that will allow plant harvesting. Still isn't going to fix the fact that that troll will have to wander away for us to get the anvil.

Oh, really? In that case, locate some stairs above it and channel them out. It'll be faster than building a wall, and anyways I highly doubt that you saved one frame before the troll knocks down the door.
