It'd be nice but not needed. I suppose I'll start playing if no one is going to claim another dwarf any time soon.

Wait, it got a lung cut out? Man, that's an exact trap.

I wouldn't worry too much about enemies dodging past traps. It's like Brownian motion, except less directed. Face it, goblins are as likely to dodge back up your trap corridor as they are to dodge further down it. A deep enough trap corridor would almost completely elliminate the improbability of a goblin dodging all 10 weapons, in the same direction. Besides, isn't that what your militia is for?

Guys? Anyone want Mafol the miner/carpenter, Urdim the beakwolf-loving and in other unmentioned personality things untrustworthy-seeming craftsdwarf, or Etur the nice farmer?

I suppose I'll take this one:

   Rakust Niltosed, female Blacksmith
Average in size, sparse straight hair neatly combed
Calm, friendly, relaxed, not a risk-taker
      Talented metalsmith

Does Rakust like any metals? If so, name her "GreatWyrm[whatevermetalshelikes]," replacing the [whatevermetalshelikes] with the name of the metal she likes--e.g. GreatWyrmSilver, GreatWyrmCobalt, GreatWyrmArsenicBronze, etc. If not...um...if she likes any ores, use the metal associated with it, and otherwise...get back to me on that. She'll want to import a bunch of whatever metal she likes and try to make as much and as many different kinds of things out of it as she can and is allowed to.
If she doesn't like any metals or ores, then I have no idea what to do. BTW, what kind of gems do you want for eyes in that tin sea serpent I still owe you?

simon: Simon Portalcastle is ready. She was already the broker, so yay there. Three dwarves left. I'll probably start tomorrow, or when all the dwarves are taken, whenever's first. Maybe a bit early.

Splint: Noted, although I don't have any spears right now.

Everyone: Care to comment on ideas for the jailey place? Or personality traits, for those of you that haven't mentioned any yet?

And that "looking into river turns you into a fish" =/= "good" in any way, shape, or form, like (say) healing mists or monthly ressurection would be.

I think it'll fall apart once at least one of the building blocks starts to melt.

Dear Urist McRambo
We had assumed all was lost when the goblin swordmaster slew our brave militia commander. Little did we know that the swordmaster's callous slaying of a little duckling would send you, a humble pot ash maker, into a rage so legendary we shudder at the very memory of it. You proceeded to slay the swordmaster and his entourage, not with a mighty weapon of steel but with a piece of wood. Even when the vile goblins stabbed you in the heart you continued to slay them until finally with your dying breath you crushed the swordmaster's skull. We interred you in our finest tomb along with your precious duckling and noble oak log. As our final gift we bestow upon you the title of Kinron "Oakenrage".

With tears in my eyes and pride in my chest, your's eternally, The Overseer

...That's got to be the best use of a log I've seen in a long time.

Pun intended or no?

My first undead siege was one ferric elf corpse, plus a couple of local skeletons. Killed about one in three of my dwarves before inexplicably dropping, and then I discovered a pair of squads of ambushing kobolds that outnumbered my fortress at least 2 to 1, and also had weapons. I didn't, nor did I have traps or even stone.

You could also attempt dwarven abortions. That is, blows to the abdomen.

DF Suggestions / Re: Continued Worldgen
« on: May 26, 2012, 12:38:24 pm »
There's a couple problems.

1. While the world is being generated, it's in a sort of fluid, abstract form. Once it's generated, it is more...crystalized, definite, malleable. Turning whatever form you leave the world in back to the abstract kind that worldgen needs would be harder than redesigning worldgen to use the malleable crystal of the generated world, which seems pretty hard even without accounting for changes the player makes in the world.

I wouldn't be so confident about survival. This is a haunted area, which could mean anything from "Blood rain and knuckle worms" to "Ogres, zombies, ogre zombies, huskifying fog, ogre husks, ogre husk zombies, blistering muck rain, blistering ogres, blistering ogre husk zombies, and very short sieges." Speaking of sieges, I'm using the Fortress Defense mod.

Rigoth "Alra" Grinderrinses: Check. Four dwarves left.

Why would the wardens be there?

51780
Sarcastic Dishmab "Splint" Dikesearched the farmer/fisher being added to OP. Idea of individual or family "cells" with quantum stockpiles of food being considered.

Note: The title of "Warden" is assigned to every non-prisoner dwarf. It's not specifically the dwarves guarding the prisoners; there probably won't be many prisoner guards, in fact, due to the probable need for guards protecting everyone else.

My/Vabok's idea: Just let the prisoners live among us, for a while at least. After that, some kind of big communal detainment center can be built. Maybe in the caverns.
