Sea serpents are BIG. That head is probably bigger than your entire character. Try cutting some smaller bits, to make it bleed out.

DF Suggestions / Re: A Realism Fix for Platinum and Aluminum
« on: May 13, 2012, 09:49:41 am »
1. Sensible.

2. Fairly sensible, although platinum has been seen as a "one-up" over gold for a while in fantasy (see: D&D).

3. Why should platinum be worth less than gold? Not only does it go against popular conception, which is more important than youd think, there really isn't any reason to make platinum worth less than gold. After all, it's about as useful.

What about moods is overpowered? I'd drop my legendary miner into magma to have a srange mood that doesn't make a craft or piece of furniture. Althought the latter are useful for raising room value, that's easy to do in other ways and, for me, furniture is a firm minority. I can't wait until magic is developed further so I can find a use for those gem bracelets and stuff.

...What wold that do to help? Or at all? Would there then be only one emperor, in the entire world? Somehow I'm not sure about that...Maybe you mean one per entity, which already exists as a different tag?

Why would a bronze colossus want backpacks? More realistically, it'd be a dragon or something that wants some cut gems of at least X value for its hoard, or Y gold coins, or something.

Have you considered importing actual elephants (removing the grazer tag so as to allow them to not die), and using only their soap (or that of their calves) to make the elephant?

Which will, of course, be a...WHITE elephant.

Bear in mind that elephants grow REALLY slowly. f raising for meat, you might as well butcher them on the spot. If for warbeasts, then...um..don't.

Once upon a time, when I still dwelt in the slums and ghettos of various gaming forums in search for a true sandbox, I discovered a place called TV Tropes. After stumbling through the dizzying archives and midden heaps of the land for weeks, I decided to leave. But that's when I heard whispers of a grand land from a fellow lost soul. A place where anything was possible, yet had no fees nor toll to pay for entrance. A true land of no illusions, yet of the most concrete truths.
My interest was piqued, and traveled the inns and taverns to hear of tales of such a city. The denizens were mad, many told me. Some say they were pretentious old men, that the world have left behind. Others said that they were the last of a great race of philsopher kings. But all could agree, that the songs and tales were of a quality that few could ever hope to achieve. When I heard of the epic of Boatmurdered, I knew that such a calling was irresistable.
I set off, saying farewell to my friends, despite their pleading cries, I set off. Finding such a place was of no great concern. I saw the city, a towering construction of steel, adamantine, and bone on the horizon. I strode forward through the fogs and I gasped in bewilderment. Terrifying cliffs flowing with magma and spikes leered above me. I saw a path and attempted to climb, but I could not see, as all paths seemed correct yet wrong at the same time. I returned to the slums and felt rage overcome me. Impossible and arrogant! Sheltered in their incomprehensible labyrinths from reality and the rest of the world.
But I felt remorse after my return, and I realized that no longer could I enjoy the routines of old when I knew my true callings. I found an ancient map, and though the journey seemed to have last a lifetime, and there were times when I wished that I could relieve myself of such a burden, I persevered. Eventually, I no longer needed the parchment, for I have memorized all of the crags and dangers. Bidding him farewell, I continued on my path alone and reached the great gates of the Toad's realm.
Looking back down, past the horrors and challenges I triumphed over, I saw how so previously incosequential nearly everything before has been. I stood up, dusted off my tattered robes and entered the city. Yet it has just begun.
So how did you get here? I made the journey pretty much alone, and with an online written guide.

Very similar to yours, although I spent a while reading the wiki and forums before actually downloading.
TV Tropes is like a recruiting ground for DF. Or maybe a gateways. If the latter, it also seems to be a gateway to Cracked.
(Andother things, but they haven't consumed as much of my time.)

Dear bearded midgets of Reksasineth (SinCity):

As we near our fourth year in the desert we've made great progress on the soon-to-be gambling and vice capitol of the world. The steel block perimeter wall is done except for the entrance and the grid of dacite block streets is coming along nicely. You're all pretty happy to live in an open air pavilion in a desert eating replicated food while working constant overtime hours laying out the roads. Soon enough we'll have the first permanent buildings up and actually start looking like a city.

However, the levels of unauthorized reproduction are alarming. While we can always use more laborers, we have migrants who work today, not in twelve years for that. Children only eat and drink up our, albeit infinite, food supplies while doing nothing to contribute to the fort. Please stop popping out useless babies until the city is more developed.

Yours,
Vegas Vic, Overseer of Reksasineth

Dear Urist McGamer,
Please respect our personal choices of vice.
Sincerely,
Urists McLoveMakers.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Xuspgas troll clothier
« on: May 12, 2012, 08:00:25 pm »
Ironically the clothier  had troll fur clothes on it looks like he made himself his own clothes.

What's more, they're made out of some troll's fur. I can imagine an underground troll clothier; poor, downtrodden trolls sell their fur to the clothier, despite knowing that they will be beaten by their goblin masters, in exchange for a few coins with which to pay for their vice of choice, or maybe to save up for something better. The fur is then woven into cloth, and the cloth transformed into wonderful garments and such before being sold to goblins or well-off/frugal trolls. There is also a side business in leather garments from customers who didn't pay their debts...

DF Modding / Re: Adventure modding! (with Giant 4-armed Badgers!)
« on: May 12, 2012, 07:54:11 pm »
FYI, [ADVENTURE_TIER] is nice but unneeded.
If you only want outsider adventurers, as opposed to badger (or whatever) caravans or invaders, you don't need all the [PERMITTED_JOB] crap, or anything like that, not does it change anything. In fact, the ability to be a spearman is determined entirely by an entity's ability to make spears; nothing else is needed.

What part of "actually appeared" do you not understand?

I think stuff like this happens with dwarves, too. Something with historical traders. See if it always happens, and if so post the raws for the creature and entity.
