DF Suggestions / Re: Other Races

Suggested a lot, including a recent thread enitled "Semi-Sapients" or something like that. I suggest suggesting your ideas on a thread like that one.

Ok, so I'm making my farms outside, this is going to be hard because I'm on a mountain and there isn't much space on the ledges >.>

Try channelling out an area next to a pool, then emptying said pool into the area.

Ignore what the guy above me said; create a path from surface to caverns not neccisarily through your fort), and NEVER guard it with ANYTHING.

Toads are the first creature in the raws, so when the game is confused it sets the creature to them. You probably left something out about what critter they turn into.

Yeah, I guess the underground thing wont work =(. I put em in dark fortresses. Means you can only have dark elves or goblins, but it's sort of another layer of difficulty, as the dark elves are WAY SCARIER than goblins.

Actually, you'll be able to get both goblins AND drow at the same time. If you're lucky and they're antagonistic to each other, they'll fight each other over who gets to siege you.

The same thing he'd do with any other flute: Nothing.

What would Urist do if he MADE a donkey leather flute?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Weirdest Deaths
« on: April 09, 2012, 03:48:40 pm »
Until today (or maybe tomorrow--but more on that later), the weirdest death any of my characters had was when my kobold adventurer got frozen in a river. However, as we speak I type, another character is going through his second or third day of being nibbled to death by dingoes. He's constantly passing out from exhaustion, so I only get one attack every half-hour to hour or so. Real-world half/hour, that is. I'm catching up on my forum reading, though. I think he'll die of thirst.

What's your weirdest death?

52373
Nah, it's the ogres. They're big but slow.

I might be a bit stuck. First off, I'm trying to steal this slab from this tower, which is going to take a while because thirst and dingoes are having a competition over who gets to kill my current character. After that, though, I'll need a goal. I'm making a poll for that right now.

Heh, I'm running out of choices I guess. Once I get a normal adventurer to the tower, I'll consider cheating, but that'll take a while. My current adventurer is being gnawed on by dingoes. It started towards the beginning of his first night out, continued through the morning, and now I don't know what time it is, since the dingoes somehow blinded me, but it's probably around 24 hours after the start, given the fact that the total waiting time between turns has been in the hours. My character is somehow exhausted enough to be passing out from it a lot despite having been passed out from exhaustion for most of the past day. Fun.

well if mine carts can fly and they can be filled with liquids, Magma Morter anybody?

Delicious napalm bomber om nom nom

I wonder if minecarts would be able to be used as catapult ammo..
No, but you COULD build tracks and have a bunch of those rollers things, powered, fling he minecart into the goblins' front lines.

Interesting idea. A dwarf who dies like that should have his/her spirit bound to the artifact, giving it some magical power and/or occasionally spawning a spirit nearby that chats with living dwarves, giving them happy thoughts and possibly teaching them whatever skill went into their artifact. Possession moods might lead to possessed artifacts in this case; possessed artifacts might go berzerk, animating and attacking until they get what they want.

Oh, and if a moody weaponsmith goes berserk after making a weapon, he should grab the weapon and use it in his berserk rage.

DF Suggestions / Re: Flamethrower
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:21:06 am »
Are you thinking of Greek fire? That wasn't a flamethrower, that was more like a flame bomb. And who's to say that A. everything before 1400 has to be included (firearms, for instance), or B. that dwarves know how to use it?

Greek fire wasn't a "fire bomb", it was a substance  and it was used in many different weapons. And according to Toady and ThreeToe there will be no firearms or gunpowder in the game.
Was Greek fire more often thrown in such a way that it would burn everything in a certain area, or sprayed so that it would form a flamethrower-like line of fire? I said more like, referring to the fact that to my knowledge, Greek fire was not sprayed at enemies, but held inside containers which were thrown at enemies. And the "firearms" thing was an example of why "It existed in the right time period!" argument was invalid.

He might be confusing greek fire (which was basically burning oil hosed at the other guys, or whatever. That's how I always imagined it.) with Naphtha bombs as used in Stronghold: Crusader and such. :P
I might have, but I've never heard of Stronghold: Crusader.

I always thought that goblins were coming to dwarven fortresses to kill as many dwarves as possible. Either that, or as an initiation rite into goblin frats.

I reached the tower, and began to sneak in. The moving corpses, and even the wizard controlling them, was remarkably ignorant of my presence. Finally, I found what I was looking for: A dwarven corpse. On him were two things I needed: A waterskin containing life-giving water (mine had run dry), and Rashomuz, "Diedcrypt," the rhyolite slab.

As I crept towards the door, I heard the groans around me, which could only mean one thing.
I've been spotted!
Gods help me, I've been spotted!

I threw my pack at the door. My spine was broken. A minotaur with a pick disabled my axe arm. A corpse of another minotaur grabbed and shattered the wrist of my left, shield arm. They hacked at me with knives, axes, and other weapons. Finally, the corpse of a minotaur did me in, with a punch to the skull.

As my soul slipped out of its body towards its eternal rest, I was stopped. The necromancer, cackling, cast a spell that bound me to Rashomuz.
Two dwarf spirits and one of a minotaur looked at me. "Hey," said one of the dwarven spirits (who later introduced himself as Melbil), "look at the new guy."

Fun Facts about Player Races with...not sure if it's a lack of [CAN_SPEAK]/[INTELLIGENT] or what...
You can set them to be butchered, and turn them into various stuff. The deaths of their compatriots seems to irk most other kobolds/ogres/whatever, but you can just keep killing them. If you mark the butcher for butchering, he'll try to drag himself to the butcher's shop and fail; if he's already IN the butcher's shop, he'll suicide himself into a neat pile of bones and flesh.
