DF Modding / Sharp Reagents
« on: April 07, 2012, 08:09:06 pm »
Is there any reaction tag I can use to make a reaction require a bladed weapon or object with a forced edge (e.g. a knapped rock)? I'm thinking of a reaction to sharpen a stick or something. If not, I guess it's a fair bet that most adventurers would get their hands on one for butchering...

I added a few more Adventure Mode reactions. You will be able to gather and craft wooden sticks. You're on the honor system to not gether sticks as infinite trade goods which are slightly more valuable and easier to get than handfuls of soil, pebbles, and gear taken from keeps. Giants are supposed to poke enemies with their fingers, which would be an amusing and potentially fatal attack, but they don't seem to. Speaking of which, I pitted a giant against 10 ogres in partial copper-and-bronze armor, with a shield, a klub, and some okay skill each. They took down the giant with one casualty, which is better than any other megabeast except the bronze colossus did. Maybe I should improve them...Hm, I wonder if dragons could benifet from minor magic...

DF Suggestions / Init option for bogeymen
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:08:32 am »
I know, I know, some people find bogeymen really easy to beat and/or a neat addition to the game. Me, however?

Now, I understand that some people like bogeymen for one reason or another, and that others can beat them with ease. I respect that. That's why an init option would be ideal. People who like/don't mind bogeymen could leave them in, people like me who find that bogeymen ruin adventure mode can turn it off. Just like invaders--why should Fortress Mode get to "turn off" its biggest threats, but Adventure Mode is forced to keep the worst unavoidable foes?

Well, dwarves are supposed to be like normal people, not Bay12ers. Try asking your friends who don't play DF if they'd like to live next door to a weird scaley person with a viper's head.

DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Theft from a Tower

Heh.

I made a kobold adventurer, who died when his attempts at stealth were penetrated by kobold bandits. Then I started a minotaur axe...minotaur, who has killed two pairs of ogres. They had to be finished off with skull-blows using his shield. My Ambusher skill is up to the point where I can attack a weasel with a giant axe, and it doesn't notice before bleeding to death--DESPITE being flung by my blow.

I'll start a narrative.

-----

My name is Imici Loraafuni. I was an executioner and hunter, until my family was disgraced by alleged associations with the foul ogre race. I've killed four so far. I took one's axe hand as a trophy.
I've got my old, trusty iron axe; my ogre-slaying bronze shield; some cave fish; a waterskin full of ice; and the aforementioned trophy. Also a weasel corpse, in case I need a snack.
I'm sneaking around, punting little woodland critters to relieve my tension. So far, I've killed a weasel and three rabbits. I've also got a bunch of snowballs and large roaches, for when sneaking up next to then and hacking them to death isn't an option.

My first night in the widerness, I was visited by some spirits.

DF Modding / Re: Premade Worlds

Modded them how?

Removing ANYTHING causes a crash-on-load.
Adding stuff won't crash the game, but it won't appear either.
Changing stuff usually works.

DF Modding / "Hardcoded" Interactions and Modding Materials
« on: April 07, 2012, 09:09:30 am »
I had an idea. What if, for people whose adventurers are dying to bogeymen and such in their attempts to get the Secrets of Life and Death, or ones who can't find a vampire/werecreature, we simply made an instaboiling stone or something that would transmit one of these interactions to them?

How would we do something like that?

DF General Discussion / Re: Movies retold in DF announcements

Hm...

Some Migrants have arrived.
Electic Fence toppled by Tyrannosaurus.
Your settlement has crumbled to its end.

...Yeah, Jurassic Park doesn't have a lot of announcements in DF, especially now that you have to find the body to get the "struck down" message.

Nothing. Members of the clergy are [MENIAL_WORK_EXEMPT].

What would Urist do if he created a hideous yellow-skinned monster whilst trying to discover the secret of life?

Question: How do adventurers interact with minecarts? Can they push them? Can they ride, or at least climb on top of, them? Do minecarts provide cover? Etc?

You COULD creae a reaction that requires a [whatever] sword, and summons a...something which is like a firey bolt...

DF Modding / Personality Questions
« on: April 07, 2012, 07:40:38 am »
For the ogres in my Savages' Stronghold mod, I want to fiddle with their personality some. Ideally:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What personality traits would I have to modify to get any of the above to happen? Are there any other modifiers you'd suggest adding?

I gave giants high natural skills. A dragon quickly melted the giant; a bronze colossus was getting dents as well as digits (and nose) torn off until he chipped one of the giant's bones; a hydra and the aforementioned dragon killed each other, with the hydra ripping out the dragon's throat and causing it to bleed to death before melting; the battle between hydra and giant was about 10 seconds and one fast-healing bruise from being a curb-stomp battle in the giant's favor; the battle vs. the roc was a definite CSB, although the giant got a cut; and a blood hulk made the giant cry Mommy. It's a pretty good spot to be, IMHO.

Oh, and blood hulks dropped in lava will have their blood boil away, several times after the blood in all of their body parts has been reported as "gone." This indicates that the blood regenerates.

Kids grow up fast in DF. You would, too, if you were the oldest person in your household at age 6.
