What I was thinking was making a soapsone creature material (I even made one--here:

--and was thinking of making a reaction that would turn one bar of soap into one stone of the same species of soapstone.

Has anyone tried to figure out what, and in what forms, amber and/or coral are in Dwarf Fortress? In vanilla aside from custom reactions not needed to get the amber/coral and stuff unrelated to amber/coral, of course, custom reactions could let you summon demon leather and sandstone from an amber amulet and a coral crown.

I'd advise changing the fire-hardened wood to be ~copper-bronze (?) equivalent. Copy-paste the tags from the metal after adding a (few?) tag(s?) to tell the game that you want to fiddle with the wood material for the tree.

Actually, that would be interesting..Just setting a friend up in front of a laptop, opening up Dwarf Fortress, and letting 'em figure it out.
All the while, snickering as they try to pass the enormous learning-curve.
The only person I ever tried to introduce to DF went back to Call of Duty after barely starting a fort, and I tried to help him understand it. I doubt someone with NO help could do ANYTHING.

Adventurers work by separate rules. Completely. If a working fortress and a working adventurer encountered one another, the universe would explode from the conflicting laws of physics.

The bug with bolts is not fixed.

The bug with armor is not fixed; seeing "Needs 2 addy bars" or whatever means 2/150 of a bar, and will use the other 148/150 too.

The hydra existed before you came to it's cave, it must already have tasted dwarf blood during the world gen.

That doesn't affect how it acts when tame. Only your dwarves have that property.
WRONG! If a creature is an enemy of your civ, it will attack dwarves even when "tame." A megabeast will become an enemy of a civ just by wandering into a city during worldgen, it seems, so it is hard to tame even non-exotic megas.

What would happen if I gave soap the [IS_STONE] tag and added a reaction to turn soap bars into soap boulders? Would soap still be cleaning-useful? Would soap be useable for masonry, etc?

If not...
[Going to war with elves] requires: offering elves wood, stealing all of their goods (to offer to the next caravan), killing their merchants, and possibly modding in elven diplomats so you can make (and ignore) deals on how many trees you will cut down and then kill them.

Shops? Maybe added to inventory, IDK.
Lairs? No scattering.
