DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: A point about traders.
« on: July 13, 2011, 07:57:36 am »
So whats the precedent for asking for a bunch of maces and axes one liason, then asking for booze and crutches the next?
Do you mean, the liason asking YOU for that stuff?
RNG. It makes succession and community games more entertaining, though.

DF Suggestions / Re: Ideas to make nobles useful and interesting
« on: July 13, 2011, 07:55:43 am »
The happiness thing needs to be worked out so that making friends is overall positive to happiness and good meals in good dining rooms don't more than make up for the dwarf's friends, family, and pets being killed after a tragic accident involving trying to free a mason from goblins when (s)he walled him/herself out.

I like the idea of dead warrioirs rising from the grave to confront great foes. Imagine if this has been in the early 2D editions.

"Ghost-Martyrs of Boatmurdered-
ATTACK!"

Maybe, but it would make more sense to just let your militia at 'em. It's what I do.

I think mine is simplest of all!
No, not the one about magma aquifers, the one about only aquifers dampening the levels above and below.

DF Suggestions / Re: Sorting the skills list
« on: July 12, 2011, 11:35:26 pm »
Actually, the displayed skills are listed in a standard arrangement. If your engraver becomes a mason, the mason skill level will be listed above the engraver skill level.

Despite this clarification, I approve of this idea.

um no they don't  Only when tantruming do they throw things, so now you're lying
Also possible that the dwarves were throwing a tantrum at the time, with said tantrum being aimed at the closest conveinient target--the croc.

9.  Do !!lignite floor grates!! eventually burn away?
No. They lack a melting point, which is the key feature for burning away IIRC.

14.  Do I need to queue two mitten jobs and two boot jobs per armored dwarf?
I don't think so.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: End of Combat?

That wasn't aimless standing. That was vigilance! You never know when a dead body will start moving.... necessitating more killing.

Dwarves. They know the Zombie Apocalypse is just around the corner.
No. They know that if you tell them to kill a kobold, there might be other kobolds or some other type of enemy nearby. This is slightly irritating with lone thieves/wild animals, but useful with large groups of wild animals/siegers.

I always beeline for the magma sea.

As to the others: Yeah, metals are rarer now, ever since 31.19 pretty much. I don't know why they'd stop hauling, though; however:

I doubt it, else, everyone's flesh would melt or rot the instant they use forgotten beast soap or eat forgotten beast tallow roast.  ;)
You could, of course, try giving cat soap a syndrome. For irony, make it a vomit-inducing syndrome so that they have to clean themselves more.

Lucky you. When I was new to DF, I often accidently told miners to remove the ramps letting themselves out because I didn't relise that a dig designation did not vanish when you channeled above it. Often I rescued the dwarves, but often...they starved to death while looking for bugs in a mine instead of digging the last few tiles to freedom, fresh air, and FOOD.

They don't build those towers. Their dark overlords summon them.
The Goblin Whatever has been crushed under the collapsing ceiling. X100

Dark Overlord: Oops.

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?

Nothing. It would just make his end goal easier.

What would Urist do if the mayor mandated the production of dwarf bone items?

Been done, been a succession fort, fort died of ennui.

I haven't changed my answer: I'd be that noble that never merits an unfortunate accident, mandating only pots, items made of the dominant stone/metal type, axes, and other simple, vital objects to be made; and only rare and/or rarely exported items like slade items, axes (again), or gemstone beds to be forbidden to export; and only make simple, sensible demands.

Ideally also making an awesome artifact that either saves the fort from invaders, boosts everyones' happiness, or gets put in my room.
