The carpman language should be a combination of snarling-type sounds and the sounds you make when you try to talk underwater, in short words. They should have local groups led by the strongest warrior ("militia commander") and "civs" lead by the strongest of all. I'll look over the other civs for ideas.

Kinda. If you make a custom reaction that takes a bag and puts sand in it, you are faking the collect sand reaction.
I don't think you can make it require a sandy area past self-imposed restrictions, though.

training weapons can be used to some effect in combat - though they're horribly ineffective, but this is due only to being made of wood and not the token itself.

I'm pretty sure the ineffectiveness comes from them only having high-contact-area blunt attacks - put the proper edged attacks on a training sword and it'll probably do at least as much damage as a wooden sword obtained from the Elves.
I don't think that that's saying much...

Erm, I can't seem to embark with batteries, diodes, or lenses. Also, I can only embarks with toy wands--are these the "wands" in the reactions descriptions?

Two Armorsouls, one Gearfallen, and one "I'll wait until we have a site chosen" for fortress name, one "The Holy Fiends" for the group name. The vote for the names of the fort and group will go on until whenever I start the fort, probably Thursday or Friday.
