Devourer swarms: Small and quite fast melee tyranids. Useless one one one, their power is in their numbers.
Hmm...pet, maybe?

Quote
Spore mines: Unintelligent flying balls of explodium, explode with noise, not useful in this mod in my oppinion (friendly fire and breeding problems :P.
Aren't those the ammo of...biovores?

Any idea why this wouldn't work on a netbook?

The most common bugs are gaunts, they come in shooty and hand-to-hand variety. Also gargoyles, which are flying shooty gaunts.
Then there are genestealers, infiltrators who can turn other creatures into genestealer-hybryds.
Warriors, bigger than gaunts and 'stealers, more intelligent also. Can have various weapons too. Raveners, based on warriors - snake-like, can dig. Lictors - also based on warriors - stealthy infiltrators.
Carnifex - big bug, usually used as a "tank". Different weapon loadouts also.
Hive Tyrant - command bug the size of carnifex.
Various other huge buggers, but those listed above are most common.

I can PM you more details later, but really need to get some sleep now.
Thanks. A bit more info (body parts, for instance) would be nice, but sleep is more important.

I play 40k for 6 or 7 years, so perhaps i could help. What specifically do you want to know?
What are some common or notable types of tyranids, and their abilities?
What are some of the tyranids' weapons?

And incidentally, everything is on Toady's to-do list.
Except maybe dwarf sewage.

Dear Cobald McNobility,
I did not make any copper items. Why? We had just started the hole-in-the-ground we call "home" and had not actually found any copper ore. Or any ore. We still haven't.
So you got angry and wanted to punish someone. Who did you choose?
A miner, our militia commander, who arrived mere moments before your mandate expired and has not even reached the bridge crossing the river yet. You sentenced him to two months in a prison we do not even have!
Prepare to be disappointed.
Sincerely,
GreatWyrmGold, Ovrsr.
P.S. I think you should be glad you didn't hurt him when you beat him. I would like to test my newest device, set right next to your room, at some point.

I'm pretty sure they do, actually. Can you describe the situation more specifically?
My miner fell asleep on the lip of the aquifer after mining some out, while the water from the just-turned-off pumps were apparently still flowing. He got pushed in and did not wake up. He drowned.

Surely unless they have some swimming skill they are going to drown whether they wake up or not.
Ramps help. I had ramps.

DF Modding / Tyranids: Need help
« on: June 28, 2011, 11:52:04 am »
I am starting a major modding project. I asked for ideas, and tyranids from Warhammer 40,000 were suggested. Unfortunately, while I want to do that, I need a little help.

I want you to list and explain notable, common, or interesting tyranid castes and weaponry. When I tried to, I discovered that there was a lot of stuff to look through and decide if I wanted to include, so I was hoping that someone whose tyranid-knowledge-fu was better than mine could give me a bit of help.

This world uses: Fortress Defense Mod, Evil Races and Civ mod, Dwarf Caramel, a little side stuff, and maybe some other stuff I forgot. This will lead to FUN...Oh, and let me know if something odd comes up, like a cheating reaction I haven't used since I got used to 31.25 but never bothered to remove or some odd logged errors, and I'll get it fixed if I can.

Old, semi-irrelevant stuff

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Extremely valuable meal
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:07:03 pm »
Part of the reason that stack is so valuable is that it has over a thousand meatballs. Plus, dragon meat is valuable. Red dragon meat is X30, twice what vanilla dragon meat is worth. (Which makes sense, since vanilla does not taste nice with meat.)

I see what you did there.

And I am sigging it.
Hey, sweet, second time I've been sigged.

DF Gameplay Questions / Purring Maggots: Do they work?
« on: June 27, 2011, 01:22:10 pm »
The wiki is inconsistent. It claims both that purring maggots can't be milked and that they get left in the farmer's workshop when milked. Which is true?

Whoever put that pic of Armok up, wins.
I uploaded an image, but when the genie guesses Armok, he claims there is no image yet...
There might be a few Armok characters there for some reason.
