((I forgot Selina was easy going...((That would be because I shortened the name from "Easy to get along with". If anyone can think of a word or two that means that better than "Easygoing," I'm all ears.))
"Your a cheery one, how about you go home and wait to die while those of us who actually want to win do the fighting. Your making me depressed."Anastasiya is confused.
"What if they're not here to directly kill us? Because, as far as I am concerned, they probably already have the technology to exterminate the human population, leaving the planet ripe for their taking."Whatever reason they have to come here, why would they not use the strongest weapons they will use at first? Or even use stronger ones, intimidate us?"
No, they aren't declaring total war. They're here for something else. We'll find it out through their actions and what cards they play."
Apollo shakes his head to focus and turns his view to Anastasiya."I am fine."
"You alright? Clear your mind, we're not too far from the landing zone."
Which happens to be a really big part of the rebuilding process. Along with, y'know, finding ways to make an airtight seal across your throat that can resist high pressures (such as those generated at depths, which force you to expel the air from your lungs leading to you swallowing water and shit going haywire)...Either copy sperm whales, expel the air and suppress various reflexes, or don't go deep if you're not designed for it.
...finding a way to make the oxygen exchange across your gills efficient enough to support the high rate of oxygen consumption terrestrial mammals use...I'd say lowering oxygen consumption rate would be easier. That, and not needing the gills much.
He would also have to have extra channels in his mouth so as to swallow water to direct across the gills (The gills are the site of water expulsion, not water intake) and that's a whole other kettle of fish. Why would water intake need to be in the mouth? It would make sense to have it be a slit or something in the neck or collarbone area, near the natural area for gills to be placed (the chest, near the heart). This also (slightly) lowers the difficulty of finding a pathway for it.
Long story short, no, you can't have gills. Not contesting that, just some bits of your reasoning.
-snip-I said depending on the change and the method.
I didn't realise the full implications of the power I'd given him until a turn or two later.Ah.
"Well considering they probably have the equivalent of nukes that last one seems likely. ""Not like Cold War. Like...like they would not want to win."
"If they probe with force and we win they lose a lot. If they probe us this way and we win they lose very little. They're playing it smart giving us no information on them while gaining a lot on us."If they probe with force and we are weak, we only learn how easy they kill us. We run, we hide. They get whatever they want, take anything if they promise to leave us alone. And they would not leave anything we could use to exploit weaknesses, we are too small. Backwards. Primitive."
"They have space ships do you really think a space ship would be built for travel in air if they are built in space""If they need it to. Space shuttle does it."
"My point exactly. We don't understand them but the reverse is true as well. They know nothing of us. Were hitting them with all we've got but they don't know that."Why not probe with force? Again, if they force probe, they know how we react. And how else would we react?"
They're probing us before they start hitting us in force.
