Unfortunately, the worst possible tragedy has struck! I have lost the flash drive with all of my DF stuff on it! I will let you know if I find it, but the next person should take his/her turn in the meantime unless Fate blesses me and I find it quickly, in which case I will make a 10-15 z-level tower and wall in Spish and stuff.

Yeah, not sure what would distinguish a Colossi from say, a metallic Titan, if they were randomly generated.

I think they are supposed to be a a golem. Notice in the legends they are often associated with war, fortresses, ect. I'd suppose they are some sort of war machine made by the gods or some ancient dwarves or something. Since it's controllers are long dead, it just smashes everything. The shrine could very well be it's garage or something.
Hm...I can't wait until The Creators are implemented/otherwise suggested, then.

Don't be so negative. We're going to have a stone artifact and a legendary miner soon...or a raging deathaholic and no militia commander...Either way, we're good.
And I'm only halfway through Granite. Take the time to read up on DF and practice KC. Once you get the turn, it'll mostly be building up defenses, making sure no one starves, and building a monument of some sort.

I am Goden Weirdgranite, a dwarven overseer. I ascended to my position after being the sole survivor of a goblin seige, by not dodging into a well and then pulling the right lever. I was once just a lowly potash maker, then a soldier, then an overseer, and now an ambasator to a kobold outpost. Maybe after meeting with the leaders there, I will be able to convince them to let diplomats from our fair mountainhomes go to their capital without being robbed from head to toe.

I have bad news. The locals currently have no leader. However, as you commanded me, I will say until a leader. Hopefully, that will be in a year or so; in the meantime, I will shepherd these small creatures.

The first thing I noticed was a large number of capybaras. Capybari? Anyways, two capybara men, five capybara women, and six giant capybaras. Two were named, presumably from killing kobolds. One seems to be called, given my knowledge of the kobold tounge, “Oh crap I'm being eaten by a giant-giant-water-rat” and “Look there's another AUGH!” Four capybara women, a capybara man, a duck, and a turkey are caged. I quickly ordered the duck and turkey to be tamed.
I also noticed that there was a legendary carpenter, as well as several underskilled ones. I swiftly ordered that only the legendary--Shigodis, which means “Lover of fairy-metal,” as he likes a type of metal that most believe is fantasy--who has creted an excellent ashen armor bin.
Also, someone made a strange object called a “chew toy,” as explained by a helpful glassmaker. Chew toys are probably not usually encrusted with native gold. This one is, and seems to be made mainly of pig bone. Both artifacts are encircled with bands of their main substance.
Another thing I noticed is that, despite the large amounts of clay and idlers, there is no one collecting clay. This would likely help their defenses, so I am working on putting a kiln in an out-of-the way location and preventing useful kobolds from collecting clay when they should be working on other things.
I intend to turn this little hole-in-the-dirt into an actual fortress.

Granite 1
I have a strange sense of deja vu or whatever the elves call it. This fort looks familiar...
I see it is technically a villiage, not an outpost or a hole-in-the-ground. I also notice that almost half of the population (26/57) is idling. Worse, that does not count the five on break, the ten taking care of various bodily needs (eating/drinking/resting), the one party attendee (probably being joined by twenty-six idlers), and the seven underaged residents, six of whom are infants only a month old. That means that only nine kobolds are working, less that one in six! This is unacceptable! Hopefully some kilns and a builders' corp will cure that issue.
I met a glassmaker, Drakoniss, who seems very helpful. I also met an animal caretaker who considers himself a spoony bard but is actually the least spoony bard I have ever met. I also question the “bard” designation, but I can't claim to understand kobold arts.
I also told the smallfolk that they could collect the remains of their companions.

I also ordered the catacombs expanded. Perhaps these captured capybarafolk could make good crypt guards...I must ask Drakoniss about them...he seems to be the only animal trainer around here.
For export, the biggest item seems to be footwear...if only these creatures could make wood boots like the elves do. Blocks (?) are next, but not worth wasting the effort of our carpenter on. Plants (aren't kobolds carnivorous?), cloth, crowns, large gems, drinks, ivory/tooth bracelets, spearthrowers and headwear, and backpacks...unless Shigodis can make spearthrowers in his carpentry shop, he won't be much good for export. I wish we had a legendary woodcrafter instead. Except Shigodis can make awesome furniture, like Themiyafalda, a bin used to store leather armor. The other artifact is Thilamaisi, a pig bone stick thing encrusted with native gold. My guide says it's a “chew toy” and that it was created by the current leader of the fortress.
I also re-started the wood-gathering industry, ordered the spare carpenters' workshops dismantled, and started a water source for extra emergencies, in case the hospital has to be abandoned.
The dining area only has 13 tables and chairs, or less than one for every four kobolds. I am starting to remedy this. I also noticed some random logs in the floor and ordered them to be removed. Speaking of  logs, I added a new wood stockpile. Finally, I ordered a war dog to be tied up near the entrance. What else is that rope doing, anyways?
As future plans, I get orders started to make wooden crutches, splints, and to expand the bedroom area.

Hopefully, I will impose fine dwarven order on these kobolds. I placed two types of bedroom designs due to convinience and to give kobolds a wider variety of rooms. Also ordered beds.
My various plans are temporarily employing everyone. Success!
Quite a bit of work for one day. Now for a nice dwarven wine...What do you mean, you don't have plump helmets? This is going to be a long year…

Told Drakoniss to have the capybarafolk in the cages tamed and trained for war. They should be ready to patrol the gates soon.

Told the miners to dig out a path to Sifigibidus’s left hand.

Fiddled with the dining room. It improved its size and its quality, and gave people doors. Win-win.
I put the high master miner, Spish, in charge of Glosholer (meaning “Assorted Wounders” in kobold). Figured he should better himself above his name. In addition, I have chosen Lrobojrildus as another warband commander. His talent should take him far.
Noticed Spish hauling wood instead of completing one of the mining jobs I have set out. Disabled his wood hauling.

Drakoniss is taming the gobbler.
Shukukuthrirbis is constructing the kiln. I have an odd feeling about his Future Potential…Have I heard about Onulimesh before? The name comes to mind…was it the name of a potter, maybe?

A cat gave birth to two kittens toady. One will be butchered when she is old enough; in the meantime, she will be sent to a cage.

I wonder what happened to that dead miner.
Discovered the locals use a jellyfish as their symbol.
...Seeing as they're ocean folk, appropriate.

Idlers are beginning to climb…I must find a way to occupy them all! Idle hands are the goblin’s next victim, my father used to say. And while he was touched in the head—not enough wine, I think—that saying has lead me to some fine forts.
Almost at the same time, two cats gave birth to three kittens.
Claimed a bunch of cage traps and doors. No, that doesn’t sound quite right…
The first block—sort of—has been planned. More kobolds are being drafted into masonry. Also, there is a clay stockpile by the future project site. This project should be both useful and impressive. It will serve to avoid depleting our food, water, and alcohol supplies.

Somehow a cat and her kitten got into the reservoir…and walked right through the floodgate…something is wrong. I’m ordering the water lever to be pulled at once.
A miner has built the new-water-source tunnel…but the water is salty. Must build a well.
Two capybara women are tamed.
Something feels wrong. Something should be happening now, I know it…

Double-digit idlers! The horror!
The cheese maker is building the second kiln…that feels…better, for some reason…I am almost certain that Onulimesh was not a potter, I think it was an inanimate object…native gold…somehow linked to a kiln…

The cheesemaker finished the kiln (which took a while, obviously) and swiftly went to gather clay.
Drak has started taming another capybara woman…with pig meat? I thought capybaras were vegans…

Why have none of the work orders I put in, nor those from the last overseer, been put through yet? mcguinty, the head kobold, will be removed from many labors until he goes through his bureaucracy.
Onto another capybara man, the only one that is actually a capybara man. Soon, he and his sistren will be valuable parts of our fortress’s defense!
Constriction of my monument continues. It has barely started, but it has only been a couple weeks—not even!—so I didn’t expect it to be complete this fast.

Spish, the high master miner, has withdrawn from society. That doesn’t sound right…fey…stone…Onulimesh…kiln…cheese? The only thing that makes sense out of that is stone, so I’ll build a mason’s workshop. Just in case the kiln is important, I’ll build it out of clay.
…Something still doesn’t sound right…I really need some plump helmets, my flask of wine is running out…
While wandering outside, I noticed two things: 1.)  a sun berry, which I will use to try and get some decent alcohol and a small sunberry farm, and 2.) a mating pair of capybarafolk. (They were even right on top of each other…eaurgh…) I wonder how to catch more capybarafolk? The thought was interrupted by the presence of the two named giant capybaras, who still have not left, so it didn’t go anywhere, but still…
Shukukuthrirbis seems to know what buildings to construct when—first the kiln, now the mason’s workshop. All clayey…hm…I think Onulimesh was a cabinet…made out of native gold…slight Planepacked aspect…no idea when it was created, or be who. Must check my books.
The last capybara person is being tamed. Soon, war capybarafolk! I wonder how fast they breed…

Sunshine brewed in a makeshift clay still on the beach, with a little sea water splashing in…phew, I must write this down. I did.
I have made a little clay-made farm for my sunberries, and ideally will have a fair number of seeds when I’m finished so that I can grow my brew elsewhere.
I was told that Spish claimed the mason’s workshop not five minutes after Shukukuthrubis finished it.

Slate…not surprising, it’s a mason’s workshop…native gold, he shoulda grabbed that first…That woodcutter needs to kill the giant capybara, he’s got an axe-like object…Drak trained a capybara woman for war…More gold nuggets…More kittens…Two more gold nuggets, no, three…

Oh, dear…Spish wants metal, and the kobolds have no metal industry…I am ordering a wood furnace and a smelter built near Spish, in hopes of smelting one of the remaining chunks of native gold. I’ll just enable the labors on a few kobolds and…kobolds can’t work metal, or even smelt it?
Okay, Spish is doomed.

This is a good idea, though is it worth the time of fixing it? I'm not sure, though I would think it would be a simple fix.
I agree with the second part, but fail to see why this change is needed. Perhaps if the corpse submenu of refuse was divided into sentient/nonsentient/vermin?

The caste system works beautifully here along with the new monsters and challenges although I'm noticing a bug with the Obsidian caste not using their fire against the enemy as stated before.
Probably just the same as crossbow-not-using dwarves...probably.

before you kill the royals, pit them against a dragon. If they're anything like Cacame, they're being raised in dwarven culture will have weeded out all the bad traits we normally associate with thier races.

World Gen battles are highly inaccurate. In one of my favorite ones, ~1200 elves and beasts attacked a mountainhome full of ~300 dwarves. 400 Elves survived, and one dwarf survived. The elves lost.
I've had better. 400 elves attack, 2 dwarves defend. 2 dwarves survived and killed 75% of elven forces, but lost.
Traps killed the elves, then they got into the fort where the dwarves were randomly picking up and dropping pieces of armor.

I would prefer BC's to just stay in the game and not be made of different materials because the BC seems to be something very Dwarf Fortress-y
Of course a randomly generated BC with some default stats (friggin' huge and made out of bronze...) would be a great addition
Maybe a random, specific-to-that critter weapon? Maybe random personality? Maybe a bit of definition as something other than "A murderous Colossus of Rhodes" in a Threetoe story or something?

This happens, if your fortress is deemed an unattractive migration target by your parent civilization. It can happen after a year with exceedingly high count of dead dwarfs -> lose 2/3 of pop to a forgotten beast syndrome. Or if the pop_cap in your init file is set to a value lower than your current population.
Alright, so kill 2/3 of my dwarves when I'm sick of migrants? Shouldn't be hard.

Hm...Magical crossbreeding secret?
Requires a special workshop--maybe a ginormous corridor that two flaming spheres with the progenitors in them that hurtle toward each other, maybe three mystic circles, maybe mirrors; reagents would be charcoal and magical spices, or crushed gemstones, or a pane of crystal glass, or something; the created creature is a hybrid of the progenitors' bodies and abilities.
Procedurally generated hybrids sound awesome. Especially if one progenitor is a dwarf... :D

DF complained that one of the compressed files had errors on it, so I'll have to restore from "backup" (the DFFD), which I have. Therefore, I might not get a possible mood and might not get the awesome artifact.

then she'll go and take a shield as soon as it's available, and resort to wielding her axe single-handedly.
individual dwarves' stats do not seem to affect their ability to wield weapons.
That is, even a very high, unbelievably strong and fat dwarf who supposedly weighs 90-110 kilograms and easily bashes humans to the ground will be unable to wield a two-handed sword or great axe or lift a longsword with one hand.
On the other side, even a flimsy, short and weak dwarven teenager will have no problem wielding a mace and a shield, despite weighing maybe 40kg.
I guess average size as written in raws is all that matters here.

I have heard that it is possible for rare dwarves to be large enough to wield 2h swords.  You can test them out with a special military squad with a 2h sword as part of the uniform and see if any dwarf picks up the sword.  If not, move them out of the military or to another squad.  Not sure about other 2 handed weapons.
Would it be possible to raise a child to become huge? Ive noticed many a child to be fat. It should be possible to turn that fat into muscle and perhaps a growth spurt. Or is a child´s adult form randomly generated as well?
I think children have the same traits when they reach adulthood as they do the day they were born, except for skills and traits based off said skills.
