DF Gameplay Questions / Re: World gen - Perfect site?
« on: June 11, 2011, 04:03:51 pm »
The problem with trying to have all the alingments is that the Evil part of the biome corrupts the neutral fauna into zombies and skelletons. So you woulndt actually get everything.

And youd have to be extremely lucky to find almost every biome sharing a comon border/corner. A waterfal + volcano + brook+river should be doable though.
The waterfal + volcano + brook+river I could go without, I'm more interested in he biomes.... isn't the world painter in the gen world with advanced parameters thingy, supposed to do that?
Consider yourself lucky to get a three-land-biomes area by the ocean.

Fortress of the mushroom people. Dwarfs living in cast obsidian mushrooms.
Bonus: Mod your civ to be plump helmet men!

Dear giant toad,
Please come and try out our nice, tasty dwarves. Especially the soap makers above ground. They are nice and clean!
Sincerely,
GWG, Overseer.
P.S. Ignore all light green carets along the way.
dear overseer
*ribbit*

giant toad
Dear Giant Toad,
I do not have my Toad-To-Dwarven translator handy. He is busy coding your next iteration. Therefore, please do not just ribbit.
Actually, if you swim across the little cave stream and come to the surface, you will find a translator. As well as a lot of wooden furniture to smash.
Sincerely,
GreatWyrmGold, Overseer.
P.S. I promise that my military won't kill you, if that's what you're worried about...I lost one to a panda, for Armok's sake!

Dear Urist McMiner,
Come out of the aquifer pit to start channeling. You are wasting time by being buffeted against the wall.
On the bright side, I bet a vague modding idea I had might work. Fire creatures could cause the water to sweep along behind in the water...Hm...if the pumps weren't made of wood, I might test it on you.
Sincerely,
GWG, Ovrsr.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: what should i do with so much gold?
« on: June 11, 2011, 03:44:28 pm »
Er...Dig to the magma sea or make lots of coke/charcoal, make gold statues (for value) or goblets (for weight), and sell them. Be sure to request weapons, flux, iron, pig iron, steel, and so forth from the dwarven caravan and possibly similar from the human caravan.
Alternatively: Cage/wood weapon traps, goblinite, smelters.

Have your doctors prescribe some magma therapy.
I prefer having them practice "Drop 2-3 z-levels" therapy. It trains doctors, and you get to keep the silk clothes they were wearing! Win-win!

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No! Copper for woodcutter!
« on: June 11, 2011, 02:25:31 pm »
1.) I tried forbidding the one iron axe in hopes my woodcutter would drop it. Nope.
First, disable woodcutting so he puts his current axe away.
...I missed that.  :-[

over 9k steel was not good enough for him
Are you working on a steel megaconstruction?  That's similar to the amount of loose stone i have in my current 5 year fort!
Steel is useful, and if a fort has iron it has a lot of iron.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: No! Copper for woodcutter!

When a dwarf want's an item, they go for the most expensive one available, with special modifiers for materials they like. Knowing this, there are a few things you can do. First, disable woodcutting so he puts his current axe away. Then do one of the following:

1. Forbid all axes except the one you want the woodcutter to use. You can unforbid them afterwords so long as your woodcutter doesn't drop his axe for whatever reason.
2. Decorate the copper axe to make it more expensive. This will make your woodcutter prefer it. Make sure your military dwarves are ordered to carry "Iron axe" so they don't want to take it as well.
3. Store your military equipment in a different burrow from the woodcutters.
4. Make more military to claim all the good weapons before your woodcutter can pick.
5. Just make weapons as they are needed. This is usually what I do.
1.) I tried forbidding the one iron axe in hopes my woodcutter would drop it. Nope.
2.) I'm not sure about decorating the axe...this is less than one month in, and I haven't even struck stone yet.  :( And I apparently can'y tell my military to use an axe being used by a woodcutter even though I can accidently assign a piece of armor being used by another military dwarf...(This was before I realised that the default uniforms and such would be useful and just assigned my dwarves individual armor/weapons/etc.)
3.) Too late.
4.) See #3.
5.) See #2.

DF Gameplay Questions / No! Copper for woodcutter!
« on: June 11, 2011, 01:46:11 pm »
How do I get my woodcutter to use the copper battleaxe and not the iron one he grabbed? Iron works better for axedwarves.

54415
A. Use drawbridges.
B. Mm, barley...
C. Other people have useful advice.

It is also possible that your chicken stepped off of the nest box for a moment, causing the chicks to instantly die.

My dorf is already miserable. You don't need to kill her.

Discovered the wood was covering an unsightly hole. Meh, the wood is more important.

I think he means the flooring I put over the hole our first miner fell into.

Edit: Oh also I'm all for war capybara people. We need all the help we can get.
Yeah, most likely. Also, war capybarafolk: Coming right up!
("Capybarafolk" is based on "lizardfolk" from D&D. I just felt like using it, I guess.)

Another update will most likely be posted later today. I just started Slate and have tamed the capybarafolk in our cage traps. If only there was a way to attract the wild ones to our cage traps...But I'm working on a solution.

EDIT: Here's a short update.

From the journal of GWG
[Granite 20, cont]
-tameable, trainable, not grazing/eating/etc…good. ready to continue

Told Drakoniss to have the capybarafolk in the cages tamed and trained for war. They should be ready to patrol the gates soon.

Granite 22
Ordered some mechanisms. Mechanisms are good. I’ll have a proper gatehouse soon, with a drawbridge and all!

Granite 23
Shigodis, the legendary carpenter, made a masterwork casket. Thinking of our other artificer—the maker of the first kiln of Gakruldus, High Master and sole mason, former cheese maker and all that carp—I ordered a stone statue for the dining area. Also ordered up some wooden bows for our bowbolds. Also ordered work to start on the next phase of my monument. Heck, maybe I’ll have time to build both ideas! First things first, of course.
Shigodis made a masterwork crutch…maybe the next masterwork will be a bow or a piece of furniture…I hope so.
Drakoniss has been trying to tame the first capybara woman for a couple days now…I wonder what’s taking him so long? Maybe she doesn’t like prickle berries.

Granite 25
Drakoniss has tamed the first capybara woman of the fort! I expect little capybarafolk to come next…
Drak has also started taming another…with pig meat? I thought capybaras were vegans…
Sikrilgus is hauling graphite to the stockpile from…somewhere…hm…
Set up a new wood stockpile.
Just noticed: My work-for-all program seems to be succeeding! Idlers in the single digits! Two or three or four!  …Although several are on break, so…

Granite 27
Drakoniss went to his third capybara person to tame. He is using bat ray…what is wrong with him? Use plants!
Also, reached 0 idlers around this time. Excellent…

Granite 28
Drak is using a prickle berry to tame the penultimate capybara woman. (We only had one man, tamed with the bat ray.)

Slate 1
A new month. Drak is using a prickle berry to tame the last capybara person. Soon: War capybarafolk. I dare the goblins to$3ThrEdsdf4j2utghtl\

Aw, crap, save screwed up.

I'll have to start the month over... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Kobolds will soon survive
« on: June 10, 2011, 09:11:31 pm »
Everything is good, this next version is gonna be more epic than normal
Fixed.

This is gonna be fun. I wonder if Kobolds will still charge nest boxes in Fort mode and lay their children as your citizens.
What version was that bug, again?
