My first post on these forums :P

If there was a way to split up the stack of bones that might be a workaround like you said, I hope a solution is found because when playing kobold every bone counts!

Slightly of topic if I abandon a fortress in dwarf mode can I then reclaim it playing as kobold? Hope so! :D

Edit: just found this
Quote
Elephant hides are worth a lot, and i would presume elephant bones would be too.  If you butcher an elephant you'll get one skin, one large stack of bones, plus other stuff.  Each bone can make 5 elephant bone bolts, or the entire stack of bones can be used to do a single decoration, because decorations consume the entire stack.  Absurd.

Now, throw the elephant off a 20z+ tower and let it land in a room with high walls.  The elephant will explode into pieces, and limbs will separate.  Each limb will be butchered separately.  The main body of the elephant will again give 1 skin and 1 stack of bones, but each limb butchered will also give 1 skin, a single bone, and at least 1 meat.  If you're butchering livestock for the leather or for bone decoration, by using the explosion method you've effectively increased your output by a factor of 5 per animal.

Far from perfect but might work I'll try it
It would still be nice if there was a reaction to turn small numbers of many stcks of bone into large numbers of small stacks of bones.

You used to be able to make 'magic' weapons that would burn their opponents and stuff, if I recall, but it isn't really possible anymore as far as I know.
You can do that now. [HOMEOHERM:15000].
Not responsible for wildfires caused by embarking with man-sized lumps of clay 3,000 degrees F above the temperature of magma.

First, ya the equips tag might be it. If thats not there they won't use anything and will run around naked.

Second, I just noticed something I missed in the first reading. That last battle was 24 clay golems and 6 humans lost with elves losing 140? That isn't too shabby. Sure the first battle was an overwhelming defeat with a 4 golems to 1 elf lost ratio but the second battle was fairly decent in terms of units lost (rounded for ease 25 golems to 150 elves is 1 golem lost to 6 elves which is a better ratio for the golems than the elves in the first battle). Even if you acount for the humans and round to 150 thats 30 to 150 or 1 to 5.

Edit: Also did you look at the battles to see who was killing the elves? were the humanoids accounting for all the kills and the golems simply get slaughtered or are the golems actually holding their own?
Hm...Not actually sure who was killing...and yeah, I think [EQUIPS] is the problem. Thanks!

...Geez, I thought they'd be nigh unkillable!

1. World gen battles are 1v1 so 1 dwarf could potentially kill 1 billion elves, humans, goblins, kobolds, etc in a single battle no problem.

2. Do your golems use weapons? cause if not I am fairly certain clay vs metal or even wood is a losing situation since clay is not a weapons grade material. If you want them to be tougher but not too tough make then made of copper instead, or give them the ability to use armor and weapons (though that might be wierd for golems). Personally I'd just make then out of bronze if you weren't going to give them weapons as that is the equivalent of a fully clad dwarf with a hammer.

edit: Size itself doesn't matter overly much. For my krynn mod gnomes who are small size stand up alright against the bigger races.
They should use all dwarven arms and armor. In fact, the only change is replacing dwarves with clay golems.
Should I post the critter's raws?

Just what it says on the tin.

Uker, a female giant toad deity associated with gambling, games, water and fish.
Two things:
Uker, a female giant toad deity associated with gambling, games, water and fish.
(Presumable the water is twelve bays.)
Uker, a female giant toad deity associated with gambling, games, water and fish.
(Euchre is a card game.)

DF Modding / Wha...Why are my golems wimps?
« on: June 07, 2011, 05:10:10 pm »
I modded in a clay golem race and used them to replace dwarves. One in five are made of fire clay and have [FIREBREATH]. They also grow up in a couple years to mature and give birth to 1-3 children at a time (2-5 for fire clay golem women). To balance them out, I made them only size 50000 at age 3, when they stop growing. However, in the most recent war, against the elves, the first battle went like this:

A: 502, mostly elves, 365 losses
D: 1688 clay golems, 89 kobolds, 64 humans, all lost.

The last was:

A: 274 elves, 140 losses
D: 24 clay golems, 6 humans, all lost

What is wrong? Does worldgen not care what you're made of, only your size?

Aight.

Also, does anybody want their dorf to be interviewed i.e. wanna see their stats?
Me! Me! Over here! Pick Me!
I as well, please.

It worked perfectly, with no error, with my version. It's not the raw file. Are you sure it didn't return any error message at all?

And for the record, saying you don't think it will work is fine. Not trying it, despite having admitted you didn't know what was going on, is not.
Yeah, except for assorted pathing errors from forts and adventure mode. Not the problem obviously, I didn't have the arena long enough to spit at it (metaphorically), let alone put a creature in it, let alone to have them path.
And, oddly, if I put the giant badger man after the badger man and not giant badger man, the arena works! How bizarre...Are they supposed to look like dwarvish miners? I think that a 'B' would be better.

And and, question: If I made giant badger man 2X bigger than badger men, how would that put them sizewise compared to giant badgers? I don't know how the size changing things work, I would have thought that [CHANGE_BODY_SIZE_PERC:2040] would make giant badgers 20.4x times the size of a badger...

Er, you know you can pave roads at more than one tile at a time, right?

Hence the u u u u u u u u. You can do like, 10 wide or tall, or a 10x10 square. For hallways, the best I can do is 10x2. And then I have to paint individually within buildings like bedrooms, which are too small and have too many obstructions to use the larger version.

It's sloooooooow.

The only suitable way I could think, is that you select "construction" from the menu, and then select a material.  You then get to paint it on like designating digging, using mouse or keyboard.  It paints walls where you say

This is what I wanted the wall/paved road building menu to be like. It would behave just like you were placing a paved road every square which you select to paint, except you wouldn't have to navigate to the material every single time, and you wouldn't have to navigate the menus each square either. It would be so convenient.
Oops.

I don't mind the current method of constructions/roads/etc, but wouldn't mind if they were designationer in UI.

DF Suggestions / Re: Happiness / Spiral of fun
« on: June 06, 2011, 09:42:32 pm »
So I guess my suggestions are
  • lower the impact of a friend's death on happiness, or have the number of friends counter the sadness. (in most games socializing is a good thing)
  • implement a way to raise happiness : throw a party, order everybody to drink beer, etc.
The second is called "Large dining room with decent furniture."
Seriously, if dwarves cared any less, there would be no accidental tantrum spirals except be new players and some unlucky starting forts.

An elf is never a McAnything.  That is a dwarven privilege that must be earned through blood and sweat.  And booze.
Well, what are elven last names then?
