DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: May 15, 2011, 06:17:32 am »
Destroy them using magma and !!SCIENCE!!

WWUD if he was a new zombie? *not the turning into dust when you touch them zombie, the new planned ones*
Nothing--they don't exist yet. (I love running gags.)

What will Urist do if he was one of the new zombies, in the future when the new zombies are implemented?

I didn't touch any of it...nor did I remove anything.
Well...How the hell did I accidentally remove an entire section of the raws? I think I'm redownloading...

The way you word that tells me that the files you gave in the zip you showed me were ALL the raws you were using. The raws-only file I supply only has the files that are either added or modified, but all the other raws that are untouched in vanilla DF are left out of the raw pack. It was made for people on linux who couldn't just download the windows version. Either way, through that route, you've got to add all the KC raws to an established raw folder with all the raws that KC doesn't touch.

If you're on windows, then it's best to just download the pre-packed version. http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=2071
Well, that's how I screwed up!  :-[

EDIT: 7s claims that "KC31.25ver1.253\data\art\font.ttf" is "broken." Huh? EDIT^2: Nevermind, reredownloading fixed it. I really should be careful with my flash drive...

YETANOTHEREDIT: So far, so good; the hardest part is the graphics! Why didn't anyone mention that?
I mean, I knew there were graphics, but I didn't realise how much I was attatched to ASCII until I tried a graphics pack. I think I'll stick to my crappy display, thank you very much. (Not that I won't play KC, of course. Results of my nest box testing pending...although probably not good.

WOWI'MEDITINGALOTTOAVOIDDOUBLEPOSTING: Just started a fort camp. Slightly buggy. Here is the save.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Badger: The New Carp?
« on: May 13, 2011, 10:03:50 pm »
Sadly my miners are below ground, where they, you know, mine things...  My woodcutters, who are similarly equipped, only manage to send badgers into a rage and then run away, so I doubt miners would be much better.
Miners gain mining skill. Woodcutters don't gain axedwarf skill.

The Giant Badger Boar bites Urist McAxedwarf in the leg through the -Badger Leather Trousers- and the severed part flies off in an arc!
Aaand there's your problem right there.

What do dwarves do for fun? Work, mostly. Sometimes party, in which they mostly seem to talk.
Why does this pass for dwarven entertainment? Their work ethic, of course!
The large amounts of alcohol they consume probably helps, too.

Trigger a stonefall trap near them? Not on them, obviously, but the tossing about by dust may...encourage them to seek medical attention.

I just built a stonefall trap near my stalled dwarf, but I see not that you can't connect that trap to a lever.  How can you "trigger" it?
I think he meant cave-in. It causes stones to fall but is not a stone-fall trap.

Wouldn't salt water be better for disinfecting wounds than fresh water, due to the whole nothing can survive in salt aspect?

Nope. Saltwater is no different from fresh water excepted than intelligent creatures (including your dwarves) won't drink from it if it's not from a pit.
I thnik he meant IRL, in which case he's merely ignoring sharks, tuna, dolphins, algae, krill, shrimp, crabs, lobsters, whales, porpoises, leatherback sea turtles...
[insert several hours' worth of sea creature names]
...eels, oarfishes, jellyfishes, krill-wait, I said that several times already.

I had the same kind of thing, the child was worshipping a god of suicide and death and said pretty much the same thing as the OP's child did..... As soon as I was sick of him going "Life is in a word, suicide" I asked the profession........ "I'M FOUR!"
I still think I have a better quote or two:

"Life is, in a word, death,"..."Prudence demands that you consider suicide."

To be fair, no one has written knowledge right now.  No civ or creature ever reads or writes.
"The Random Shopname/Goods and Somethingorothers."

If Twilight entered your thoughts, you need to log off the forums, go watch some old black and white movies, read some good books, and come back in a few weeks.  Every time you make fun of something, you bring attention to them and give free advertising.  A better way of opposing something is to ignore it and not annoy others by talking about it -.-
Agreed.

I looked through your raws for anything having to do with the issues in the errorlog, and they are the exact same as the raws that I have in the latest version.

I notice that you didn't include material_template_default, so I would assume that means that you haven't touched it. However, nearly all your errors are something like:
PYROLUSITE: Could not locate material template STONE_TEMPLATE
PITCHBLENDE: Could not locate material template STONE_TEMPLATE
BAUXITE: Could not locate material template STONE_TEMPLATE
(And <STONE>: Could not locate... goes on just about every one I could think of)
STONE_TEMPLATE is something found in material_template default, which is why I my first thought is that the issue is there.
I didn't touch any of it...nor did I remove anything.
Well...How the hell did I accidentally remove an entire section of the raws? I think I'm redownloading...

Dear All Egg-Laying Citizens of Grobochlambin:
If you must lay eggs, do not assume that you must leave them the moment you see some job that must be done. There are many other kobolds to do those jobs. The only exceptions are if you are a soldier, performing a very important job, or unable to lay fertile eggs. In any such case, take your eggs out of the nest box for our poultry.
Irritated,
GWG, Ovrsr.

Dear cook,
I like you making masterwork roasts, but please make more than 4 at a time.
GWG, Ovrsr.

Dear Spirits of the Strange Moods,
This fortress has seen two artifacts. Both were dull, only using two of the material they were made of.
This new artifact sounds awesome. However, we have everything. I don't care if you want silk or yarn, use the rope reed fiber we just bought! Or the stuff we bought LAST caravan to get them to stop bringing us thread! I want the awesome leather artifact and a living warband commander, dammit!
Look at that! You just made me swear!
Sincerely,
GreatWyrmGold, Overseer of Grobochlambin.
P.S. The last two artifacts? One never got moved, the other is sitting all lonely in the stockpile. Their creators are, respectively, back to making excellent roasts and whatever that possessed guy did before making that #@?$% cobalite mug.

I've read a few mentions of demons being imprisoned and joining adventurers.
Where in Armok's red-scarred earth can I find demon prisoners?

On another note, be careful, because sometimes if there were flying

in the

tubes when you used tubefill, they can be released by mining the tile they were in. I've had that happen to several forts of mine.
Don't all

fly?
Also, I think this is kinda

Behemoth has arrived! An enormous quadruped with a tail like a cedar. Its species is unknown. Beware my inability to think of anything better!

No, wait! They're guineafowl chicks that are pets of the hammerlord!

DF General Discussion / Re: Anyone fought a 1000 year old dragon?
« on: May 13, 2011, 07:21:52 pm »
At 1000 years they can grow to adult size; i hear of people killing them, sometimes not having a tough time.  But how many years was your game going?  And how old was the dragon?

http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Dragon

Um, yes? It isn't very hard. Simply gen a world to 1051 and go get some "Kill dragon quests" in adventure mode. Check in legends afterwards, I've killed a thousand year old dragon and her children, who were, oh 930 or so.
Megabeasts reproduce?
Awesome!
Now to gen a world with only dragons as megabeasts...Y'know, this forum needs an "evil grin" smiley.
