Hm...
Try adding critters you liked from some fantasy novel/movie you have read/seen.

DF General Discussion / 31.25 and 31.19
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:53:30 pm »
The Dwarf Candy mod looks interesting, but the current version is 31.19.
The 5000BC mod looks interesting, but, again, the current version is 31.19.

I'm thinking of downloading a copy of 31.19 for the purpose of using those mods. What are the major differences between 31.25 and 31.19?

Everything imaginable and many things not is possible. You will make kibble from goat meat, euntrepreneurs (sp?) will buy up the fort's copper supply and your fortress guard will beath him if he doesn't sell it back at a reasonable price. Goblins will charge at the gates, their trolls bashing down the drawbridge, only to be massacred by longspear-wielding dwarves riding dralthas or elephants, which will be easy to keep alive because they will munch on tower-caps and oaks as well as moss and grass.
FPS will be high, despite having cracked all three cavern layers on a fair-sized embark and having attracted the king. Modders will make everthing from spaceships to catapaults to steam-powered dwarves made of iron to iron men with jets that can be used as weapons or to fly clumsily.
Natural laws will be correct down to the quantum level. Farms will require more work than throwing seeds at soil. Adventurers will dual-wield axe and crossbow as they sail to far-off lands, plundering merchant tresure and being arrested and beaten for it.

But when you look past the details, the game will be the same as it was when Urist the Hermit and Boatmurdered were played, back in 2D. Dwarves will tantrum, causing others to get angry and the fortress to collapse. Elephants and goblns will be burnt by huge floods of magma, and elves drowned in the depot. The blood of the earth will be mixed with the sea to make obsidian, the underworld used as a trash dump, and insanely large constructions will dominate many a fort.

Why?
Because.
This.
Is.
Dwarf.
FORTRESS!

He would kill the transporter and transport himself there

WWUD if he saw a wolf?
Nothing; he's too busy fishing even though nothing's bitten for years.

WWUD if he was transported to a D&D world?

DF Modding / Re: Shadowrun mod development (discuss, share, borrow)

Went back and played the Xbox 360 canon. Now I've borrowed a friend's Shadowrun books and I'm hooked.
Xbox 360...canon?
LIES! The XBox game cannot be considered cannon, or even fannon, since it was a FPS not an RPG.  The only similarities between the ACTUAL Shadowrun and the XBox abortion was visual.  Nothing more.
Isn't it annoying when people disagree with you because they belive the EXACT same thing as you, only you said it subtly?

Right now I miss info on naga and centaurs. I don't know proper naga physiology nor culture, and I have trouble finding proper info on centaur culture.
Nagas are basically dragon-headed venomous pythons, IIRC, and...centaurs aren't in the SRII, so I can't help you.

On the plus side, they sat around chatting while they guzzled the brew, so now all my dwarves have social skills! And friendships! Oh, I can forsee a tantrum spiral coming down the pipes XD
Hey, then they'll drop the booze barrels!

DF Suggestions / Re: Monster style adventure mode?
« on: May 06, 2011, 06:29:38 am »
Sounds interesting. I'd like to be a mighty dragon, melting a bronze collosus while he stands helplessly 10 feet away on a cliff!
First adventurers would need to be able to use breath weapons. the 'f' key sounds reasonable, if occasionally a pun. Also, dragonfirebreath would need to show up as giving you kills--weirdly, it doesn't. Modding dwarves, my militia commander just breathed fire and didn't get any kills.  :(

They're friendly? Lucky. I embarked on a bandit camp once, hoping that I would gain lots of free loot.

A camp of armed goblins can obliterate seven unarmed dwarves, did you know that?

Miners are really BA.

I saw one of my two--Shrukis, I think, one of the starting 7--was napping. As you can see in the save, the bedroom level was flooding and the exits were being blocked off.
He. Walked. Out. Just like that.
"Hey, I'm kinda hungry. I'll swim up to the dining room. What? That's flooded? Ah, well, I'll just eat right outside of it."

...
OMG!! I got a HUGE migrant wave and didn't notice!

Curses / Kobold Quest tips
« on: May 05, 2011, 07:01:39 pm »
I'll start.

1. Don't try to defend the whole cave. You will lose.
2. Use pits as a backup/secondary defense. They are rarely in places where you need them, and unless you're lucky and clever they will probably not be walked on.
3. Fill pits wih at least one creature, but more than three or four is probably not worth the effort.
4. Send someone out to collect cave critters evey now and then.
5. Kobolds, from untrained to warlords, WILL die when adjacent to adventurers unless the adventurer is killed or the kobold runs. Try running towards a pit or an armed comrade.
6. ALWAYS arm ALL of your kobolds.
7. Don't get so distracted with what one kobold is doing that several others get killed. All the bugs in the cave won't save your little furry guys from distraction.

For windows, I'm pretty sure it's [right click]->[send to]->[compressed (zipped) folder].
For others, not certain.
Excellent. Uploading now. If you want to look at it, I suggest clearing your region_1 save soon.
Oh, it's also my save with a moss agate training spear. And free adamantine wafers. And a moat (no connection to the floods).
EDIT: Here it is!

Seriously, people... even a "wow that's strange" would be better than just not answering.
...Okay.

Thats really strange.

You upload the save folder, after you've zipped it, I believe.
The region floder could work too, but I'm prettysure it has to be zipped.
...I hayt tu' be da doofis, but how do you zip up folders?
