on the matter of metals- My metalcrafter forged an artifact silver spear. What does this mean?
It'll be sharper than normal, but would still be best used as a bludeoning weapon. Of course, that same military that insists on slapping enemies with training swords will try and stab the spear through +iron armor+.

Not really. Corpses decompose into skeletons, which need to be butchered; only tameable and/or tame creatures breed; and mermaid bones are worth the same as cow bones.

I have 3 cats. One of them just died from a snake bite.

I hate trappers, so I need to use cats. Don't worry, I throw kittens down a volcano once the population gets too high :))
Then how do you make cat totems and kitten leather waerskins and stuff?

You may have heard of the story of Reg the hammerdwarf.

It my current fort, my militia commander "is a worshipper of Sposp Certainsquare the Pattern of Organization and a faithful worshipper of Reg."
Nice, accidental parralelism.

(BTW, Reg is a deity of coasts, oceans, forgiveness, and mercy and takes the form of a male dwarf; Sposp Manytitles is a deity of order also represented as a male dwsrf.)

You could use this opportunity to rebuild dwarven civilization.  Those migrants will still breed, and after setting up a decent fort, you could use the dfmode tricks to "retire" it.  Then start another one.

I am planning on entering one a peasant, and upon exiting becoming a cursed warrior in which is on a constant crusade against all darkness, even though he himself is a being of evil.

Does anyone else try to add more depth to their adventures, or is it just me?
I try, but my adventurers die in boneheaded ways, like a hydra ripping him to shreds despite having a small army with him and having personally slain several titans, or dodging into a murky pool and not being able to escape despite his swimming skill, or being ambushed by bandits and mobbed.

When you dodge into the space over a murky pool, you are stunned and are doomed to wander around unless you can find a ramp.

Open your DF folder. There should be a text file called errorlog or something like that. Open it and locate the error. Consider deleting everything and regenning--the errorlog can get full of pathing errors fairly quickly.

Also, megabeast civs can be troublesome. If they're genning, that solves my main problem, but still.

DF Modding / Extract Bones reaction

I want a reaction that creates one unit of dwarf bones and injures the dwarf's bones. It's part of a creepy civ I;m working on, and I'll just use dwarves for now to test it (probably).

All I know is that I would need to have the reaction create a unit of dwarf bones and an inorganc material that boils at room temp and has an appropriate syndrome. What I don't know is how to have that syndrome work.

Ideally, an occasional Extract Bones job wouldn't harm a dwarf, but one dwarf running Extract Bones/R would have serious health problems quickly.

Anyone know syndromes enough to help?

Not as !!awesome!!, but one recent fort had a blizzard man kill half my domestic animals and a couple dwarves before strangling my expedition leader, passing out from exhaustion, standing up, and repeating for a few months. Good thing, too; the BM would have wiped out that fledgling fort.
No more pickless embarks on evil glaciers for me!

Hmm...Nope, if you took off all of your cloth "armor," there should be no obstructions to wearing armor.
Try 'r'emoving your armor from your backpack.
