DF General Discussion / Re: I just had the nerdiest thought ever.

The probability of humanity reaching post-humanity is exactly nil. For obvious reasons.
The probability of humanity reaching post-modern-humanity is (almost) exactly one-it just varies on how much you require to be post-modern.

Boom. Saw this thread and went searching for my own. Found it within about 10 minutes. Not that big either. Running at about 26 fps. and 1.7gb of RAM used =X

Seed?

Mind updating it to 31.25 at some point?

Also, licorice whips.

Also also, what is "cotton candy" in this mod? Actual cotton candy?

The wild animals are carp, a pike, a sea lamprey, longnose gar, and badgers.

Another one: "Lekla Flightstern the Silvers of Gold."
Is there another thread for this kind of stuff?

Yeah, seems to have been the issue... :-[
Now how do you get them to collect clay, if you were planning to build the kiln from clay they collected, stupid?  :-[ :-[

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Weird Name

Ngug Dyedie.

Also, where's the already-established thread for weird names that I think I saw somewhere?

In two forts, both the site finder and the embark screen claimed the site I embarked on had clay, but all of the soil was loamy sand.
Has this happened to other people?

But it breathed poisonous gas and wiped me out, then didn't touch a single civilian, complemented my fortress and left.
"Excellent fortress you have here. I like the design, and these mugs are incredible! You might consider investing in a better militia."

I didn't stand a chance when the goblin siege showed up minutes later.
"Oh, dear. Erm, see if you can get a few soap makers or something into a squad. I prefer getting Helmsrift mugs from the source, and not covered in goblin blood and saliva."

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Huge flying blob of flames
« on: April 27, 2011, 08:22:51 pm »
Because of the way the system now works, any megabeast composed of gas or liquid dies instantly when struck because it can't attach to itself. It's the exact opposite of the previous version, where such blobs could never die, ever.

Speaking of casualties after the fact, though, I had a giant charcoal... something, I can't remember, that released gas that gave my dwarves Ebola. Seriously. They were OK for about a minute, and then they all instantly died of blood loss. I was obsessively checking them for any signs of wounds to make sure they were OK, so it really was instant.

I'm not saying that this should be changed back, but really now..

How does one kill a blob of flame with weapons? It's not possible. Blobs (of those sorts - water, flame, liquids in general) should probably be made unkillable again. This would force players to resort to trapping/whatevering them instead of some cat pwning them with !!FORCE!!.

Blobs of salt could be beaten/hacked away to oblivion, I'd guess, but seriously now. How do you attack a blob of air?
Easy. The FBs or whatever go, "Ha ha! I am unkillable! Your weapons go right through me!" The dwarves reply, "If you are so insubstantial that we can't harm you, how can you harm us or even not gfall apart?" The FB goes, "Oh ****" and dies. The player goes "What the ****?" The dwarves reply, "What does **** even mean? It sounds like a password." The GreatwyrmGold thinks, "Maybe I should stop this before it gets too crazy." The dwarves reply, "This is DF. You're too late."

I was actually referring to the fact that my tomb is the first room you set up for me.

No. If memory serves,NW_Kohaku set you up with some nice digs, a private dining room, and an office before I even started. I actually haven't engraved your tomb, I engraved all your other stuff. And Niyazov is still pissed. And demanding a billon statue. No wonder people have a nasty tendency to introduce Nobles to magma.
Oh. I didn't know. Sorry.
Once again, does anyone have a guess when I'll actually be baron? sorry if I'm being impatient.

DF Modding / Re: Custom real world language files - place your order
« on: April 27, 2011, 07:46:00 pm »
Ooh!  And Draconic!
That would be awesome.

I'd use it for Kobolds, maybe too.
Me, too, but it would be even better for me. I use modded D&D kobolds. (I'd like to thank Tiler for that mod.)

Spanish would also be cool.

I wonder why she looks dejected, however. There's plenty of death in a regular fort
Not if you play it right. Most of the deaths in my forts have been me getting rid of annoying migrants.

How many can I get rid of per wave if I still want a few?

No... it's deffinitely a gemstone.  Buy that sucker, it's an amazing find.
Thought so. I did, along with a few other mineral training spears. Weird? Yup.

It might be an artifact stolen from an older fort, or picked up after said fort was abandoned.
Never had an artifact ( :'(), first fort in this world.

Since you didn't mention which race, it was probably the Dwarven caravan, right?  Dwarves have [GEM_PREF] in their raws.  Sometimes the game doesn't check to see if an object SHOULD be made from a certain material... like when a human fort is made of Native Gold or Platinum.  I think this is what happened here.
No, but this brings up something I was thinking about. It was the caravan from a modded race that I was playing at the time--these guys, updated from 31.18. Another thing--back in .18, I got a clay training spear from them. Odd. Related?

Quote
Did you get it? It's a gemstone spear.  Gotta be worth it.  Maybe not for military purposes, but for sheer awesomeness.
Yup.

How much does it cost? That should help determine if its an artifact.
Not nearly enough to be an artifact.

It could be duplicate raws. Have you modified them in any way?
Yeah, but
A. I have been (too?) careful while modding.
B. Mineral spears are the oddest thing, and the only odd thing, to happen in my forts. Except for how little of a nuisance badgers tend to be.

DF General Discussion / Re: What Would Urist Do?
« on: April 26, 2011, 09:13:47 pm »
Go stark raving mad when he couldn't find the necessary pieces for the artifact mood he would inevitably go into, and starve to death amongst that plethora of provisions.

WWUD if the King died on his front doorstep, one moment from the fort becomming a Kingdom?
Nothing. Why would he care? All nobles are the same.

What would Urist do if he kept getting nothing?
