DF Modding / Re: Er...What happened to Adventure Mode?
« on: April 24, 2011, 08:07:25 am »
I think Adventure Mode is pissed off because you modded the BC's out. and without BC's there are no Yamato cannons, and without Yamato cannons the Carriers are OP. And you are the OP so that explains everything...
...
Uh...
Yeah.

I modded in bronze colossi as the members of the dwarven civilization, didn't like it, and modded them out.

Why won't adventure mode come back?

AdeleneDawner has a mod out about this...

The misleadingly titled Dwarven Caramel mod.

It has giant furry rats as sheep and purple worms and lizards as guard dogs and such.
Cool.

After much thought, and logging back on, I'm going to make sure that all types have new ideas for creatures.
EDIT: Who's the elf who said that dwarves can get along with abovegrond livestock? (Just kidding, I appreciate criticism.)

Good idea, but this is something for modders to take care of. And it is easily moddable.
It would still be nice if it was in vanilla.

DF Suggestions / Dwarven Livestock

Why?
1. Dwarves have domesticated a variety of underground plants with purposes similar to aboveground domestic plants.
2. There are underground animals.
3. Therefore, there should be underground animals that dwarves regularly domesticate.

Ideas:
Let's start by breaking down domestic animals into groups based on function.
MEAT: Easy. Almost any subterranean herbivore. Cavern cattle sounds fun.
EGGS: Some sort of lizard. Ideally a few. I have an idea of a peafowl-equivalent; the males would be like those frilled Australian (I think) lizards, but green and blue or orange and pink or something, and a few feet long.
MOUNTS: You know, like horses. Probably giant moles or rutherers or something, but giant cave swallows might be cool. Or cave deer, deer that have grown large and fat off of underground fungi.
MILK:Purring maggots, most underground mammals (or at least the grazers-like most above-ground ones, see?), and maybe some GCS variant. The idea of milking a giant spider for edible venom seems dwarfy. Also, the abovementioned cavern cattle.
DEFENSE: Crundles or something? Maybe one of the giant lizards--I can imagine the look on a goblin's face when he sees several orange-and-pink frilled lizards charging at him.
GIANT WARBEASTS: Dralthas, rutherers, jabberers, maybe voracious cavern crawlers, cave crocodiles probably. Or giant GCSs. Maybe cave wolves, if you want to go crazy with the "normal animal wandered underground a while ago" idea.
VERMIN CONTROL: Some kind of mini-GCS, or maybe crundles.
"HONEY": A hive-living spider, or maybe just cave bees.

Thoughts?
EDIT1: Added cavern cattle, giant GCSs, cave wolves, and defense giant lizards to the list. Now everything has at least one non-vanilla idea..

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How do I dwarf syrup?
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:19:39 pm »
You need to use the "Process plants (to barrel)" job, not the "Process plants" job. Both are at the farmer's workshop.

Note that dwarves won't eat or drink dwarven syrup raw, and won't use it in cooking unless there aren't any valid solid ingredients left. In short, unless micromanaged such that only 1-3 solid cookable items aren't forbidden or inaccessible, cooks will not use dwarven syrup. Also, you can't make anything from just liquid ingredients.
Che...oh. Heh heh.
As to the liquid part: I know.

How do I make dwarf syrup? I have sweet pods, and a barrel, but I get the error message "Datome Pimaicice, Metalsmith cancels Process Plants: Needs unrotten processable plants."

Help?
Edit: Corrected a tyop.

Walls have floors over them.
Aside from this, they could.

great now i don't get a turn. Ah well
Whaa...? Whoops.  :-[

Set a shrine and call it his idol.
WWUD if he is a soap maker?
Why do I get all of the "Nothing"s?

What would Urist do if he had nothing to do?

OK, back up to Autumn immigrants.
...
GreatWyrmGold (a gem setter with the following prefs: claystone, rose gold, tanzanite, crystal glass, dark brown (the color of everyone's skin, I'll point out...  racist?) earrings, splints, longfin mako sharks, and rubber trees.  We don't actually have all of those things, and crystal glass is a problem due to bugs, but we can trade for claystone, tanzanite and raw crystal glass gems (which we can then cut), meaning we have those as long as we have a dwarven caravan.
I'm a bit nervous, but I don't know all of what you have so I trust you.
If he likes one thing you can't get, unavoidable. Two, okay, maybe better luck next time. If most of his mandates are unfulfillable, I'm gonna ask to be redwarfed as soon as his position opens up (which likely won't be long). I don't expect to be redwarfed, but I'd still ask.

More migrants.  One calls herself "leader", wants to be baron of this hole.  Whatever.  Let her have it.  Also calls self "GreatWyrmGold".  Not sure what that means, but it sounds pretentious.
Some dwarf hasn't heard of D&D...

Oh, and I should record the requests they had, I suppose.[/font]
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
SPLINTS have the highest price jump? And my dwarf likes splints? Oh, frabjous day! This is kinda cool!
I feel vaguely copy-off-of-a-famous-poem-etic sometimes.
...Or is that what you requested from the mountainhomes, in which case slightly less cool?

He would then be the dwarf who's chased down by the other, insane dwarves.

WWUD if he walled himself on the wrong side of the wall ?
Nothing.
What would Urist do if he saw a large firestorm coming his way?
Casually grab a beer and watch the show.

What would Urist do if he ran into a friendly GCS deep in the caverns?
Third one in a row: Either nothing, or grab a beer and watch.

"The Dunes of Moistening."
Presumably a desert, what with the dunes and the fact that it's far from any body of water.

Do you have any GoPNs?

Do I increase the batches by altering the second number in the clutch?
1. The first number is the minimum number of eggs, the second is the maximum. At least, that's how it is for live births.
2. Try the modding area.
3. As far as I know, you can't lay eggs in adventurer mode.

In 31.18 and 31.25, are there still mead halls or temples, or have they been taken out?
