I thought Alligators were North America specific, whereas Australia is known for its salt-water crocodiles.
I think there is a species of gator that lives somewhere else...China?
If I'm remembering right, the aligator must be a dying breed-the last time Asia and North America were connected was 70 mya or so, meaning that in that time gators spread across North America and probably Asia, and are now extinct except in Florida and China.
So I'm probably remembering wrong.

Also the spiders.
You mean, the everything.

Everything there wants you dead. Everything.
Not the sheep.
Or the kangaroos.
Or the platypi, or even the snakes and spiders-those last two are just good at it.

And the fact that hospitals work now is wonderful too...
Great, now I need to figure out how to make hospitals.

Urist McMason has drowned.
Urist McMason has carved a masterpiece!

Yes, in that order.
This is a masterful engraving of Urist McMason by Urist McMason.  Urist McMason is drowning.

Yes, I know these references are old, but...

"Maybe he had a heart attack when he was carving it?"
"If he was having a heart attack, he wouldn't CARVE "AAAAAAAAAGH", he'd just say it!"
The film is still a classic.

Tangled... teeth?
I have also wondered the same thing.

There's no need to bump a thread like this within an hour or two. If you want it to stay "high", you could always use any of the many FAQ threads.
Sorry.

WinMerge is a great tool to examine two versions of the game and compare the differences.
You could use it to find the required info in less than a minute :).
...If I knew what it was... :(

DF Modding / Potters? Beekeepers?

I am upgrading a race to 31.25, and want to know what tags I need to add to get a fully functioning pottery or beekeeping industry-earthenware, stoneware, honey-the works. EDIT: And nest boxes.

On a related note, is there any way to keep fortress residents from eating their own eggs?

AFAIK ages like this always are named with the race/species. Rather than the Name of the creature.
Ah. My mistake.

1. I think they steal it.
2. Someone said something about Elves having Iron in worldgen... related...?  :-\
3. The towns haven't changed yet... ;)
Oh.

I just started out as an adventurer.
I was headed to the capital to collect a companion or two, when...
The Flutes of Land attacked!
Two elves? No problem...wow, the leader has a lot of high-value stuf-wait, is that a bronze flail?

Short story short, I was slain by the other elf's lucky headshot with a bronze battleaxe.

And I didn't even get to see the new town layouts... :'(

But HOW did the elves have metal? EDIT: My elven adventurer had to deal with an alder training sword! Insanity!

DF General Discussion / The Roc Age
« on: April 10, 2011, 04:14:20 pm »
I genned a world-pocket size. It started and ended in The Roc Age.
Checking the raws, the only MB was a roc. EDIT: Turns out there's also a mountain titan, who was slain by an elf ten years into worldgen.
I thought that that would be called the "Age of Shama Nutsearch the Bejewled Wanderer," since that happens to be the name of said roc. EDIT: Or with the mountain titan, the "Age of Roc and Mountain Titan" for ten years and then the "Age of Shama Nutsearch the Bejewled Wanderer." EDIT EDIT: The first ten years were actually called the "Age of Roc and Mountain Titan," but still...

Is my age-naming knowledge out of date?

Definitely second only changing 'your' Dwarf's profession. Also, no danger rooms (None of us would want to step in there), and... Well, I can't think of any more restrictive rules. I'm sure someone else will think of them.
I agree.

Also, if you get killed on your turn, you are out, but if someone kills you on their turn, you get re-dorfed. Any objections to that rule? I still like it, but now that I've typed it out, it seems a bit extreme...
Sounds...more or less fair, if you are saying that people who die on their own turn get their turn ended but if you die under someone else's rule you get a new dwarf.

Thinking about making this the first succession fort I take part of...

i like to think of it as infinite; the "only 6 times" limit varies by scale, and anyways it's an artifact, likely inspired by some kind of magical spirit. Are you seriously going to question if it;s possible in the REAL world?

Did you set it over land near water, or just the water?
