A cougar attacked a tame beak dog.
No damage.
Some wolves attacked a couple tame beak dogs. I'm not sure how many were actually involved.
So far, one beak dog has a cut-open paw, one wolf is dead and had a paw ripped off, and one wolf has cut-open head and a couple legs, all dripping blood, and is in extreme pain. Make that TWO wolves dead with one paw each ripped off...and the last attack was biting the wolf's mouth...Beak dogs give dwarven kisses?

And they aren't even war beak dogs.

...Beak dogs live in swamps. I'm not sure why my dwarves keep getting access to them, but hey, I'm not complaining.

I'm thinking of going from 31.18 to the newest version. Are there any major differences between the two I should know about?
Other than eggs, grazing, and mineral scarcity; I know about those.

If you put a door at the hole where th water comes through, it's possible to allow water in later on as well as keep it out.
Read the OP. the rain didn't stop long enough to let the hole dry.
...Although it's raining now, and nothing much is happening.
I guess Mother Nature's simulation can't decide if she wants to flood the fortress or not.

Hey, I didn't know traps made with microline were cyan...So much blood, and arms, and legs, heads torsos... all over the place. They had gone a fair few yards, even over walls.
Now, make the serrated disks cyan...Dynamite with a laser beam, attached to magma. (Sadly, that's figurative.)

I poked a hole in a murky pool to muddy a farm plot. (31.18, so YES, it is still necessary.)
Only...It rains.
A lot.
How can I keep my fortress from flooding? The game won't let me build a wall or put a door in because of the water, so...

The main difference between Pikemen & Spearmen is that Cavalry find it much harder to ride-down Pikemen who haven't routed, whereas when they're running away they're all pretty much equally vulnerable.

I have my doubts as to how much effect this would have in DF though.
What, because dwarves haven't figured out the goblins' tricks of sitting on big, tame animals?

As nice an idea as it is, it also heads fairly dangerously into "steampunk dwarf" territory, at least in the described implementation, which has already been stated not to be the direction in which Toady wants to go.
Too bad players will strain pumps, pressure plates, and...some synonym for mechanisms that starts with a "P" to the limit and make computers.
