I also added fish cleaning to the last fisherdwarf but the first should probably have it if we actually want to eat fish before the migrants come.
...And the 2nd leader noble only has Animal Care now.
A. Just make all fishers fish-cleaners; it's what I do if I'm short on dwarves.
B. Since I was the first to say "I'd want to be a noble," does that make me the 1st leader noble? If so, can you tell us what mandates s/he makes when s/he makes one, and if it's feasible?

I wouldn't mind whatever gender you assigned my dwarf.  I don't think many others do, either.
I know I don't.

As to the needed jobs: I guess my guy can do furnace operating, if you don't have him down for a civilian job yet.
...Unless barons and such don't do work.

Well, you're not getting any meat off it anyway, so why not wait until the remains of the meat are all gone? I wouldn't want to butcher something rotten when the bones are still going to be there later.
That isn't quite what the OP's talking about though.

The problem here is not with the game witholding the butcher status of a creature, but with its decision to not butcher it in the first place. The only variable that's really opaque is the size one; the rest can be discerned by looking at the creature in question's corpse.
A.) So that I don't have to remember to butcher it when it decays.
B.) I know it's off topic, but it is also not my point. It's not something I suggest adding with this, it's another little shred of annoyance that comes without it.

DF Suggestions / Re: Allow designating building of walls, floors, etc.
« on: April 08, 2011, 05:15:57 pm »
To all of the people who disagree with my disagreeing with this idea:
Maybe if constructions had a designation-type interface, but were not on the actual designations menu and stayed in their b-C menu, then that seems like it would keep the good of the old and add the good of the new.

Now, if Toady thinks it's as simple as we think it is, and that he doesn't have other, more important things to code, and he notices this thread (probable, but possible that he did not), this may come out next release.

That could be at least mostly alleviated by either:
- Make workshops have specific jobs for specific materials (ie Make Marble Crafts)
- Add a filter to workshops that either allows or denies stone at that workshop (could also be done on a jobwise basis in the manager)

Both of which have been suggested before, but work well here as well.
Off-topic, yeah, these sound good.

And dorfs have crack/crystal meth? There must be SOMETHING in all that booze. Maybe lead.
Maybe it's just booze? And their brains have turned into booze soaked pigtail cloth?
...Dwarves have brains made out of pig tails?
That probably sounds even weirder out of context.

Hmm...What are loyalty cascades again?

Smith bolts. Then have your marksdwarves practice with the bolts to seperate the bolts into stacks of one. Then melt the bolts at a smelter. Smith bolts. Rinse and repeat.
Don't bolts break when you fire 'em?

If I understand the rules correctly, it also might help to create multiple species of giant badger. You can only breed 50 of each, but if there are ten species...BWAHAHAHAA!

If you have 50 war giant badgers, it will probably be enough to stop most sieges...
from coming.

"Wanna go attack the dwarves?"
"Dude, they have literally FIFTY GIANT WAR BADGERS!"
"Holy shit. Let's go raid the humans... probably less badgers"

Though I have not tested anything. I've just heard that giant badgers are better physical fighters than demons.
:o :o

Oh, I wasn't talking about war giant badgers. I was talking about TRAINING my military against WILD giant badgers. Because if my military trains by fighting giant badgers, the few that survive (with at least one arm) will be the most badass dwarves ever.
...Are demons wimps now, or are dwarves more badass?
If your military can handle critters that can take down demons, sieges should be no problem.

I can't think of any other way to get it up there, since I believe pumps only pressurize to the height they're at

pump stacks?
Which...only pressurize to the height of the top pump.

...Make that Weirdest Titans You've Seen.

DUNGEON MASTER

- everyone would be thrilled when I show up, which is more than you can say for other nobles and migrants
- I would get to chill with awesome beasts like giant scorpions and war mandrills
- no assigned labor, just going around forging weapons or taming dragons whenever the mood strikes me
- I would get to run around naked except for a cloak and nobody would dare say a thing
...Yeah, also a good idea. I count the last one as a downside. Especially in the glacier fort someone suggested as a weakness to my first idea.

Anyway, I'd like to point out I picked "engraver" because I figured being able to make artwork all day was probably the least "boring drudgery" type of job I could take in a world where I lived in a cave wearing the same clothes every day, smeared with blood and vomit.  (Which is totally unlike how I live in the real world - I usually change my clothes after they get smeared with blood and vomit so I don't mess up my pretty cave.)

Admit it, you just want to carve a masterwork in the very center of a dining hall, then carve you engraving said masterwork on the tile next to it, and carve yourself engraving that one on the tile next to it, and so on until the floor and walls of the dining room are covered with a chain of you engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving yourself engraving a hoary marmot.

It's what I'd do.
Me too, maybe, if I was an engraver, but with a dragon.
Or myself, if I was conceited enough.

Quote from: Lots of people
Fisherdorf for me!
A. It's fisherdwarf.
B. Meh.

Baron. A cushy job as long as I make sure my mandates are rational, sensible requests like steel battle axes.
Beat you to it, so I get dibs!

I guess me the noble can be an architect and/or bookkeeper and/or some other safe, moderately intellectual or artistic job that you need.

A desert titan. Made out of water. Associated with fire.

The multiple winged-blob titans I've seen. Or the jungle titan that's a blob of salt, with a sting.

Or the hill titan that is a WORM with fluffy feathers and an enormous shell.

Light...Bulb? Is that a square of magma surrounded on all six sides by clear glass windows?
Remind me never to leave you in charge of a fort that requires basic math to survive.

powerful

kobold

One or the other, you cannot have both.
Two words.
Mod. Ding.
...Actually, the first is sufficient and the second just confusing.

In DF souls are harvested from the skulls of Elves. Elves don't have souls, it's just that Elf skulls are comfy for the souls.

EDIT: Also, have you read the description? This guy deserves a harem of five thousand dwarven, elven, human and goblin women. Get to work on that, Yoink.
Elven? He'd break them like twigs if he could breathe!
Goblin? That's just insane!
Human? Insert reason here!
Kobold? You didn't mention that!
