It should be change in his personal routine I guess -- one is openness to new personal experiences (adventurousness), and one is more abstract.  I've noted down the language problem for the personality rewrite, which should drop a bomb in this whole thing anyway.
Wow, my mild confusion merited Toady One responding. I am...honored, I guess.
Also slightly confused, as I expected several other people to post random ideas of how it would work long before Toady One would have a chance of noticing.

Guess I should have expected temperature to affect the water, and thus my little guys :).

I have not seen lag yet, but it is still very early (I am running a new i7 processor, so hopefully it will be enough).
Enough? I think a supercomputer would run slow at some points when running DF. (The circus, say. Or a large glacial/ocean embark thawing. Or both. Yikes.)

Why execute?
Strip them of all of their gear. Maybe leave a loincloth or trouser or something so they maintain their dignity (sorta). Put them in separate cages. Put the cages on top of (long?) poles outside, where they won't bother anyone. Let them be a warning to all future siegers.
Bonus: Make all of them one-z-level wooden posts. Put elven invaders on top of trees.

Indeed. Even with something as simple as plump helmets, a masterpiece lavish meal is usually worth 2000-8000 dorfbux, sometimes more. Gold bars are something like 200, if i'm not completely wrong.

So four plump helmets are worth forty gold bars. Huh.
16 vs 16,000. No, a hundred plumps for one gold bar.

Only from above. Different z-levels and all.

A note: Unless I am mistaken, floor hatches do not support each other. Therefore, you must either have a two- or one-tile wide corridor, or must arrange for strategically placed chunks of normal floor, or must content yourself with a two-tile-long Falling Field.

The biggest difference between this game and Assasin's Creed (which I agree about btw) is that Dwarf Fortress wasn't subject to alot of hype and promises before it was released.  That's what made AC seem so cool then be such a disappointment.  Whereas DF is being released to you AS IT IS BEING CREATED.

That said, I like the new embark method.  I get all tingly when I embark now, wondering if I'm going to get something good...

or if it's just Microcline a-freaking-gain.
I like microcline. And olivine. Those are my favorite colors of rock, and frankly if it's rock, it's rock, and all of my volcano embarks had plenty of magma-safe alunite.
Despite my "rock is rock" statement, though, I would like to know a bit about areas I'm embarking on. Both out of vague intrest, and to see if sand/no aquifers are in areas I want to make glass in/anywhere. Yes, it's part of the !!Fun!!, but sometimes (or usually; I still feel like a beginner for the most part) I want to start with fun and work up to !!Fun!! when my dwarf population reaches a high enough level.

Untested, it might eat babies and set cats on fire, etc. Backup your save.

the deramp tool doesnt work because you cant actually select these downward slopes for deramping
It works because I changed it.

This doesn't look very much like Africa at all to me. It's completely the wrong shape.
Nah, it's fine. Get rid of the straits of Gibraltar, the red sea, most of southern Africa, Madagascar, and Eurasia past the Iberian Peninsula and the Middle East, and...well, you need to add a little subcontinent attached to the northernmost part of the removed part of Africa...but it kinda looks like Africa!
And on accident, too!

I would love to see desertification, though.

Oh hell yes.  First the humies would cut down the forests, getting the elves in an uproar.  Then they'd kill off the elves.  Then they'd continue cutting down the trees only to discover that *gasp* the elves were right, all this time! And die a slow death from starvation as their cities are buried under the sands, forgotten and broken.

Learned about it from TV Tropes.
Read the wiki for a few months or so.
Finally downloaded. Did a (very) little modding.
Tried to figure out how to goblin-fort.
Signed up to these very forums to try and figure a couple odd things out. Search for "Ustrogast Unu, the goblin fort" and "Slaves to armok...Goblin Fortress" if you want to find them.
(I never did figure out screenshots, BTW.)
