Step 1: Get magma

Step 2: Put "friends" in underground cavern.

Step 3: ???

Step 4: Profit!!!
NOOO!! That only works in-game!

"Before I beat up those bandits, I'll peek inside this lair to see what it is and maybe get some reputation!"

Doodee doo doo doo...

"Ah crap! A cyclops!
...Can I run while he's introducing himself? This is taking a while.
...Oh, crap, he killed a dwarf queen and a king!

...Maybe I can lure him to the fortress!"

You have been struck down!
"Shoulda seen that coming."

Either make yourself an enemy of a major civilization, or enter the caverns somehow. If you feel confident, try finding the circus in fortress mode and slay as many clowns as you can.

Or challenges. Never taking companions sounds hard.

On a barely related note, how small can you make worlds?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Abaolutly bizzare bug
« on: February 20, 2011, 02:51:24 pm »
I don't see how this is a bug, or how it is unplayable...
No clothes or waterskin or food. And as to the unplayable...
No. Backpack.

And, FYI, it is a bug even if there is a justified coding reason. Otherwise there would not be any such thing as a bug.

Also, I think I had the same thing happen with a nation, but can't remember the specifics, so...yeah.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Most BS Deaths
« on: February 20, 2011, 02:44:22 pm »
Either carefully stepping into a murky pool and drowning, or being ambushed by bogeymen 75% of the  time. 20% of the time, it's due to stupidity, and 5% of the time, i somehow manage to survive. I have survived a few little nighttime assailants ONCE.
That character drowned as one of the aforementioned murky pool deaths.

Most BS thing, total? Discovering that I was a thief when I couldn't recruit companions, leading to a bogeyman death. Ugh.

Bogeymen suck, period. I have killed a family of night creatures and an ettin, among other things, with an adventurer who died to bogeymen one night.

How can their size make them harder to kill than dragons? They only grow to be 4/5 the size of a full-grown dragon, the same size as a bronze colossus.
They grow to full size in 20 years, so you can check in legends.

There's your answer. Dragons take 1000 years to reach full size. In most cases a roc will be bigger than a dragon.

I must admit that my arena mode tests weren't very in-depth. I'll say that rocs should be the same 'rank' as dragons.
IMHO, it should be dragon, bronze collosus, roc, hydra.

I started as a human outsider with knife user as his highest skill.
He had no clothes, no backpack, no waterskin, no food-not even clothes! All he had was a copper spear and a large copper dagger.

Unplayable.

WTF?

I kept on getting gang-molested by these guys. In the end, I just modded them mostly out..
How?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / ARGHHH!!! Stupid Iron!
« on: February 17, 2011, 08:57:27 pm »
My adventurer is an axe lord with an iron axe. He has slain two trolls, a goblin, and tons of human bandits.
He was traveling with three or four new companions.
He was ambushed by several goblins with iron helmets and mail shirts.
All my adventurer could do was SOMETIMES hurt their extremities. Sure, the goblins hit occasionally, but not enough to hinder me.

WHY IS ARMOR SO HARD TO PENETRATE?!?!?!
This is the first battle I've even considered fleeing! WTF?

If you don't also want the caravan gone the easiest way is probably just to set the population limit to 20.
You can set your population cap to 0, which gives two migrant waves and nothing more.
But that's no fun!
It also affects all of my forts.

Quote
Otherwise, you can do an advanced world with no mountains and no playable civ required.
But...Then I can't play at all!
...I think...
EDIT: And I don't know how.

Quote
Or embark on an island, which will do pretty much the same thing.
Not for your home, or if you WANT goblins.
Doesn't your civ always show up though(Unless they are extinct)? I've done plenty of embarks on islands with no goblins/elves/humans and my civ wasn't on the island, but I still got migrants and the caravan.
...Or this.

...How many migrant waves will you get if your civ only has 1 site? Also:
Also, if I house most of my entity's dwarves, will the king come early?

Making a fort to visit in adventure mode...on an island.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Extinct Dwarves
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:43:30 pm »
Not "What are the effects of extinct dwarves," but "How can you make dwarves extinct without all the mucking about in adventure mode?"

I'm thinking of trying to make a fort in which I only get a few migrant waves. How do I do this? Also, if I house most of my entity's dwarves, will the king come early?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Is clay a type of wood?
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:32:18 pm »
That's really weird. Especially in .18 where clay wasn't even an item. Any chance for a screenshot?
Sadly, no. I had little need for training swords and the merchants already left.
 :'(
I need to think past my own dwarves' needs next time. So what if it leads to a fortress death?

...At least, I think I didn't buy it. I'll have to check and then figure out screenshots.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Backward Freak Wife
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:30:27 pm »
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A backward freak wife? What is this I don't even
A.) A backward freak is probably a type of night creature. Thus, a backward freak wife is a creature that was transformed by a backward freak.
B.) Given the way that the game stores events, it's possible that the backward freak wife became queen before being transformed. Probable, in fact.

Well, new fortress, two caravans have come and gone, and still no theft. Tried stockpiles around the trade depot and mayor's office, tried making theft acceptable, but no good. I guess either the merchant/diplomat or intelligent creature AI just overrides whatever behavioral routine is necessary for a creature to try to steal opportunistically. Oh well. It would have been a fun quirk.
Sad.
