DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Hermit Challenge question
« on: February 03, 2011, 07:08:52 pm »
How do you get rid of immigrants until you get a nice, safe deathtrap like a drowning chamber set up? I tried a cave-in type of thing with constructed floors, but I killed a cat and injured a dog the first time, and the second time I killed the other cat and the hermit.
How do you easily set up a dwarvish deathtrap with only one constructive dwarf?

Hint: If you try to just leave them in a burrow with no food or water or anything, they'll leave it to get food and drink.

Yet slow-travelling through the mountains is 100% hold down directional button and 0% find path (unless you run into some supermassive canyon).
Not to mention 40% time-consuming and 60% dull, give or take.

No? Crap.

It's taking FOREVER to slow-travel out of the mountains. Why can't I fast-travel out/through them?

You try teleporting next time you're in the mountains. That's right, you can't. So your adventurer can't either.
I can't teleport in plains either, but I can fast-travel from them.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: WHERE ARE MY COMPANIONS?!?!
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:09:26 pm »
One companion disappeared. Meh. He was a peasant and I had another to protect me from bogeymen.
My other one vanished after I slew a unique night creature, slept, and fast-traveled away. She was a master lasher and also, as a companion, keeping me from being murdered by bogeymen in my sleep as we traveled deep into the wilderness.

UH oh.

How did this happen?
(BTW both were former adventurers of mine.)

EDIT: Oh, and I got killed by a camel after that. Darn you unreliable companions! And you too, peasant who can't be bothered to tell me of quests!

EDITEDIT: Found them in the Adventurer Mode menu. The lasher went back home, the other was right about where I left him: The general vicinity of a dwarvish fortress.

You'll leave behind any companions who are unconscious when you travel.  Sometimes, you'll wake up before your companions, so if you leave immediately they'll stay behind if you don't wait for them to wake up.
...oh.

It helps if you say, say, "hey GreatWyrmGold can i sig this?" so that whoever it is knows you're asking them.

If it WAS me, sure, go ahead. If not, heed my former advice.

They retire.

Assuming this thread isn't totally derailed.

I accidentally modded in two Tyrannosaurs, and now I have alligators living in houses!

I mod 2 of two crocodiles lived in the house Tyrannosaurs happen!

Tyrannosaurs the crocodile family lived in two I mod 2 is generated!

Tyrannosaurs mod my family lived in two crocodiles are generated 2!

Tyrannosaurs mods are my family, the life of the two crocodiles, which are generated by two!

Tyrannosaurs remodeling of my family, life in the two crocodiles generated by two!

Tyrannosaurs family is generated by two changes of life of two crocodiles!

(Which, oddly enough, sounds like another consequence of duplicate raws.)

(Translated from Draconic)

Dear Dagger McSpearmen,
Thank you for choosing to accompany me on my journeys through the wild. I could understand you deciding not to follow a little dragonman who named himself after a dwarf that died after attacking a hydra. (Although he DID get a few good licks in). Two of you have helped me kill a named leopard, and all three of you helped me with that jaguar. However, said jaguar brings up a point.

Please do not steal my "kills". I am always the first down there, and have started every battle with a well-thrown cougar lung that I had prepared for me before I started adventuring. Therefore I believe I should be allowed to have the killing blow on all major enemies. Thank you.

Still, you can make a sheeple civilization down there or something, if you want.

Or a helmet snake civ...Or a plump helmet man civ...or cave bears...or elves...or giant eagles...etc.

It takes a fair bit of modding, though.

« on: February 02, 2011, 09:43:45 pm »
I had the same question, you must have HFS off (bottom layer), having the magma layer on doesn't fix it, turn HFS on and gen a new world. (To turn it back on, go into the seed you used and find the bottom layer, its with the other layers, and turn it on.)

EDIT: Oh, and you'll be able to tell if its off by:
No HFS
No magma in volcanoes
No cotton candy

Now that you mention it...Huh, I didn't think that that would drain volcanoes.
I revise my earlier statement.

That's enough non-DF insanity for now.

I was completely unaware of this feature. You can tell dwarves to kill members of your fort?
This makes noble problems MUCH easier...Just draft 'em and tell them to kill your actual military. Hilarity ensues.

There is a difference between being undisciplined and wild, and being insane.
Dwarves fall firmly on the "insane" side. Actually, DF in general does. It's a world where giant winged feathered snails are ocean titans.

My new goal is to play adventure mode and bite all my enemies in the head at least once (assuming they have heads).
Extra points: Bite all seven heads of all hydras in the world. With one adventurer.
