"Quiet, gnome, I'm busy. So, Welder, what are you doing here?"

((Was one of these supposed to be me..?))
Nope. You came in later.

Kyle looks around conspiratorially.
"Keep this a secret but..."
Kyle shows her his mark.
Kyle! You're only supposed to show that to your wife when you have one!

Will follows Kelyn.
"Look at it this way: If we hadn't scared them off, they could have badly injured, maybe killed one of us. Possibly you, especially since I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time you've met them. This way, they'll think twice before coming this way again; they might stay home, to avoid meeting the likes of us again."
"You definitely haven't met the dog-men before, have you? They'll keep coming and coming until they drown us all in a sea of blood."
"They said that about the orks, the Rigelians, the oni, the Q9, the funestis gladius, the...well, the list goes on and on, but it's only true for one in a hundred. The rest, you're just judging from a too-small sample or a biased viewpoint. Tell me, how many dog-men have you met that you didn't try to kill?"

That awkward moment when GreatWyrmGold will have more threads to his name than Toady. (40 more needed)
Because I'm awesome.

*cough* And gets caught with a female student. *cough*
Only one?
Oh right, he'd be fired after the first. And probably ostracized.

More seriously: I'm pretty sure you can't both be a teacher and a janitor.
You can be if the class is uncommon enough and the budget is tight enough.

... Who Ashley quite obviously had when she was 18 years old. Don't you think people would judge her because of that?
My parents weren't much older than that, and I didn't notice anyone judging them over the math.

"Um, okay. I can't really fight as myself, though, so I usually have the other guy do it."

((*shamelessly continues referencing avengers*))
"I'm always[/u] uke."

His aim is much better this time, and one of the archers gets an arrow through his neck.
Took me a couple reads to realize you meant the archer's neck, not Will's.

AU Note: Will would be...something. Possibly one of the teachers, but heck if I know which. Possibly the one which picks up odd subjects and has to fill in the gaps left by other overworked teachers.

"Like, like-like."
"....y-you mean do I fancy you?"
"I guess?"
Alistair scratches his head.
Angel is impatiently shifting about, worried.
"Well?"

I suspect a fundamental misunderstanding of the rules, likely caused by not reading them, likely caused by not having time. Poor guy.

We need more guys, so all female characters are out, sorry girls.
So Uma would have made it if she had a penis then? :P
It got pretty competitive towards the end there (as if there was a stage it wasn't), but it's definitely a possibility.

Anyways, I shall start cursing your names lurking now.
Hm...How many of you intend to lurk? If most of the folks are, I could just post to ask for stuff when I need extra players, instead of deciding on folks and PMing them. This makes sure that only folks with an idea of what's going on and a firm interest would be getting parts, which is a plus in my book.

Kyle looks at the women in the room with an appraising eye.
Predictable. Poor Selina. And Kuroe, I guess. Angel can handle herself.

((Sorry about not posting, I had class from 8:30 to 20:00 today.))
Dude. Ow. What the hell? How... Okay, that's not funny. What are you studying?
Not nearly enough, if he spends half his time in class. (Or at meals, or in transit between classes, or...)

15 applications, one of which was three characters long. What fun.

Anyways, I'm judging characters on the following method:
Spoiler: Rubric (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Ratings (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Using Ratings (click to show/hide)
Congratulations, scapheap and Harry! Sorry, Froggy, Rune, and...well, darkpaladin didn't seem to care that much. Forget him.
There are still about four positions to fill, however. So let's look first at what we have so far and what they would "rule out".
Kext kinda minimizes the demand for more folks mentored by a magic person, and "writing" pushes out child-looking or metal-using characters. So...Jack, probably Yuun, and possibly Lirian are out. (Huh. I remembered more magical mentors.) That leaves...Alastor, Logan, Angel, Alvar, Uma, Altrius, Selina, Kyle, probably Lirian, and possibly Yuun, right?
...
Okay. This is gonna be tough. Any convenient patterns in remaining scores?
39, 38, 37, 37, 35, 34, 34, 33, 33, 31
Not really.
Alright...as neat as wood magic would be, Alvar has the lowest score. And I'll chuck out Yuun to simplify things a bit...ugh.
Selina and Angel have good scores, so they're in along with Kext and Kuroe. Let's see, we have a pirate, a smith, a shy girl, and a creepy oil guy. We need more guys, so all female characters are out, sorry girls. So, two out of Altrius, Kyle, Logan, and Alastor. Altrius is a bit overlapping with Ms. Sun over there, so sorry. Kyle and Alastor have the same element, so Logan is in. Out of the fleshwarpers, I think Kyle would be more...entertaining, so I am very sorry Draignean.

FINAL ROSTER:
Angel
Kext
Kuroe
Kyle
Logan
Selina

And I just noticed that half the band has names beginning with K. Ah well.
And if you didn't get selected, don't feel bad. The field was damn competitive, and the reason your character didn't get chosen was more likely that s/he didn't fit with the group or the lore as well as another than anything with quality. For instance:
I... I hope I get in. Don't really know what GWG's standards are. We'll see.
You very nearly made the instant-in bracket, and did in fact make a neat character. But in the end, we had a young-looking girl (jeopardizing your place), and we had a lot of women (sealing your fate). You made a great character (and possibly three, I didn't read the others much), but she didn't quite fit into our group.
And this wasn't an easy choice, trust me. For every character I let in was a character I wish I could have included. But I am not going to playerbloat again. Hopefully, I can give some of you runners-up positions as replacements or antagonists or something.

Now then. Some time tomorrow, I hope to be able to figure out gamey stuff and get the first proper game post up, but until then...

The six sorcerers are gathered in a barracks room, worried. They vary greatly in appearance and background, but they have one thing in common: Magic. This awe-inspiring curse, this accursed blessing, whatever you call it, is shared by the tiniest fraction of people in the whole world. And for you several here, you know what your magic will be turned to do.
But you don't know how. Few of you have been in intentional fights, let alone battle. Most of you are worried, some holding back powers. None of you know any of the others.

Shredder Spikes? Scary.

Alright, dinner than an exam then finishing up Thawed applications, so I might miss the rest of combat. You can probably guess Will's actions: Seek tactically advantageous ground and shoot at the dogpeople until they surrender/run/die.
