Einsteinian Roulette / Re: Einsteinian Roulette OOC
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:12:24 pm »
Whee! OOC thread!

By the way, any word from Toady on the subforum yet?

6377
Continuing Akroma's metaphor, it's like the rogue sneak attacking the vampire with her poisoned dagger instead of going for one of the dominated fighters.

*FACEPALM*
Page 27: Answer the Minotaur.
"Not really.. hey, did you wake up here in that room" -you gesture toward the hall- "with the bed and such, by any chance?"

Page 89: Ignore the Minotaur and Go the Other Way ((Toward the Goblin Corpse))
You do so.
I'm forced to ignore these actions because I can't figure out where they fit into the story. Please double-check the current version of the book and let me know if I've screwed up somewhere.

Page 11
Turn... right. I'll let Player gamer take the sulfur road.
[8]
If you go right, turn to page 73.
You head right. The scent of fresh air, flowers, and whatnot gets stronger, and the patches of mold and such on the walls get smaller. You can almost taste freedom! You can't wait to get back to the palace.
Unfortunately, you come across something in your way: A pair of weird, smelly, noseless creatures, with green-orange flesh and giant ears. One wears chainmail, the other a robe.
"Look!" says one. "It's the prisoner!"

Also, I remember there being at least one book of this type that had a secret page in it that no other page lead to, so you would only find it if you didn't follow the book's structure, and I think it actually gave the best ending.
Would this book likely have something hidden in it like that?
Probably not. Kinda cheap if you can't choose the adventure, neh?

Page... Whatever: Turn to Page 42
...

Page 78:

With your prodigious strength and great axe we could smash through these walls
[16]
If you suggest that the minotaur try smashing through the walls with his axe, go to page 62.
“Maybe you could smash the walls?” you suggest. “You have a big axe, and you’re big and strong…”
“Huh,” replies the minotaur. “That’s not a bad idea.”
So he begins smashing through the walls of the labyrinth, creating a straight path in a random direction. Before you know it, your nostrils are filled with the scent of fresh air and flowers...and something more rotten.
“Goblins,” grumbles the minotaur. “Shoulda known they’d be guarding the entrance.”
You see a few creatures, with big ears and orange-green skin. Most are wearing chainmail, but one is in robes.
One of the armored ones points to you and shouts “The prisoner! And the minotaur! They’re escaping!”
“I can tell, you idiot,” replies the robed one.
You can hear footsteps behind you. You’re so close to freedom, but there are goblins in your way!

Page 34: Attack the foul beast!
But really, what a mighty dragon indeed. To have such minions, it should be quite the hot-shot. Pun more or less not intended. Either way, freedom calls us!
[7-5]
If you fight the minotaur, go to page 24.
This must be a mighty dragon indeed, to have such minions. It must be quite the hot-shot. Freedom calls, and this beast stands in your way.
“For freedom!” you cry as you charge at the massive beast. It looks at you with irritation, and mild surprise when your blade penetrates its tunic and hide before halting against some bone. Unfortunately, it responds to this by embedding its much larger weapon in your much smaller torso.
“Stupid gremlin,” you hear it mutter as it walks past.
You bleed over the floor, trying to get away, get revenge, get out, whatever. Even you’re not quite sure. Darkness slowly covers your vision.

The End

You would not believe how many times I generated a random page number and got 34.

6379
I'm not the guy who wrote this crap adventure.

6380
the angel is using a human body as a vessel, or not?
Consider this quote:
Also also, melee attackers CAN get to Dumah, but you could only attack its legs, which... yeah, may not be a good idea.
Unless we're forced to attack while crawling, we could hit much higher on her host. So either the angel manifested, or she corrupted the host enough that basic human ley lines are likely to be screwed up.

6381
Also, your acupuncture is less accurate on less human creatures, remember?

Hard to get less human than an angel.

6382
((Heck if I know.))

6383
Spoiler: Red Chatter (click to show/hide)
(That is the correct version.
Also, keep in mind for the future that "klick" is slang for "kilometer". No complaints here, but just a warning.)

"It worked, didn't it?"
"Well, I really wouldn't know. I missed the subsequent events for some reason. But you can do a bit of healing, right? As long as you do it nice and slow, I mean."
"Just wait a few minutes."

6385
"Is Will playing? If not, I can't drag him into it."
"Hm? Sure."
Ester looks rather smugly at Yomiko, "We're going back to the original dare then."
"Okay." Will still doesn't seem to be paying much attention.

Well, the question is if we want the game to be coherent within itself, no?
True enough. That stuff bugged me a bit, too.

Hmm.. how about players that have "started" upon a route not being allowed to "jump" to a point in the past untill they get to an ending, or at least not further than 2 choices down from their current one?
I had intended for people to play like that, but I missed the first people to jump around and didn't want to have a different ruling all of a sudden.

You could also implement that every Page will only lead to three different ones, making meandering like mentioned above impossible. Either something like that, or you could just "close" pages once you think it is feasible.
Something like this should be done. I was hoping the Writer Point system would discourage such things, and it seems to be working so far.

Quote
On another, quite far-fetched note; If the game proves itself to become refined to the point of completion, might there be a flash version or something along these lines in store? Because I would fancy that idea greatly. Just putting the thought out there. But really, If it turns out well enough - and that it would have to do, so no promises just yet - I think the forums could whip up some artwork for it.
You mean a flash version or something of the book? I don't know Flash, so someone else would have to do it, but I'd be glad to help in what ways I could.
Which basically amount to running this game.

If this works out, I intend to refine the system and run it again, hopefully getting a whole series of Bay12 CYOA books of some kind.

Good news!
I'm not going to disappear for two days.

I'm going to go to work, and then come back, and then make a turn.

I get home at about one in the morning.

No... I was trying to justify having a large health pool.
You failed.

6388
Meme is confused on how to get in...
Will helps.

"Is Will playing? If not, I can't drag him into it."
"Hm? Sure."

6389
((I'll assume Server 0002 because #1 got converted into a game.))

Will is already there, typing away on a computer, managing his stocks.

"You sure?"
"Maybe later. If the pain doesn't stop soon, I might have a transcendental experience! Or we could just get the other guy to do it. You know, the guy that buried me in rubble."
"It worked, didn't it?"
