Make Grate 4 talk like some kind of crazy grumpy mechanic. He will make use of the phrase "Well, there's your problem!" whenever possible and suggest wasteful, overcomplicated, MacGyverish, RubeGoldbergish, dwarfy, crazy or outright impossible solutions to every problem.
Alternatively, make him someone who is stupidly fearless or oblivious to danger or curious and wants you to jump headfirst into any and all situations, regardless of danger. "Hey, what's this alien artifact do? Let's touch it to find out!" or "What did the Doctor mean by 'I need volunteers for weapon tests on live targets'? Let's volunteer to find out!"
