((How the hell did I miss that there was an update right before I posted?))

VR!Jim grabs Grate and drags him into the nearest rock cover. "Get your head down, kid!" Then he looks at the wreckage (from cover, he's not going back over there) to see if it's possible to salvage any of Milno or Ivan's equipment.
"Miss Feyri's dead..."
Do as the weird guy says.
Why does he sound familiar?
Maybe he's someone you know?
He must have been someone great...Xan?
No, not that maniac. Someone we've known for a while.
...Dad?
No, not Dad.

"Ugh."

((@RC: I'd like to point out that sods are smart. They have a problem with situations they weren't designed for. They have a problem with situations they have no orders to account for.
They can use any tactics they have been taught.
So the only way you could improve a sod's mind is to give him imagination.))
((Are they smart though? From what I've seen, they don't have any sort of initiative or tactical insight, just mindless obedience. Their commanders usually provide any sort of plans or guidance. But if the Doc can safely make them all smart enough (without dangerous side effects) not to need a commander, then it'll still be convenient to have one sod to give orders to.))
((Remember when they were fighting that one Something de Bergerac guy, in that big armor stuff? When they used advanced tactics to disable the Something of War? Seems like something you would remember, RC.))

((Congratulations you are too late. As you just witnessed simus murder auron in cold blood after discovering that Auron had tried to murder Simus (assuming you can trust Steve's version of events), i suggest you save him from her and the doctor if you want anyone Auron to take jim seriously ever again.))
((FTFY))

-snip-
((All things considered...
You have yourself made the defense that trying to murder people is not wrong. After all, Xantalos killed the fishguy and no one cared, and all he wanted was power. Simus is trying for justice. And she'll bring you right back.

You should be glad you angered Simus and not the Doc.))

((Electrocution is extremely painful, extreme pain causes an adrenaline surge, adrenaline causes your body to shake and  exaggerate your movements slightly, the difference between aiming (whilst prone) at your waist and thighs as opposed to aiming at your chest is only 10-20 degrees.))
(("He claims he was only trying to wound, sir!"
"Accounted for. This is the HMRC. If it wasn't a headshot, it's a wound."
"Also, um, we are kinda needing to believe his statement..."

And what was Auron's line of thought? "Simus told Steve to shock me after I flouted her orders! I'll shoot Simus, that's not something Steve would shock me for!" Seriously, if you survived Steve probably would have administered more shockies.))

I like how "Some Fourth Option" is in second place.

So...lets just say you were some sort of martial arts master who is going to enroll in a martial arts tournament...What kind of weapon would you like to use? Bonus points if it doesn't show up on this list.

((Well, we had to destroy the ship anyway. That's what the Device did. We could not save those people in any way.
((Which directly contradicts Paris's statement. Which was kinda my point.
Oh, and how would we even save six people?))

Quote
If by 'ship' you mean the rocket, the obvious solution was to not load more than one person into it, which the objectives made perfectly clear. If the others had another escape route worked out - say, a jury-rigged hovercraft to follow behind the rocket - then they could have survived as well.))
((Well, "Six people manage to avoid screwing up any stealth or other important rolls and figure out the right way to the thing (to avoid stumbling across spidermonsters and weird entity things and such), thereby avoiding dying, then manage to jury-rig a hovercraft to serve as a shuttle, again without screwing up, before successfully getting and activating the Device" is pretty damn improbable. And doesn't save any of the NPCs, which, again, contradicts the statement.))

((Could we keep this IC? From an OOC standpoint this minor detail doesn't even matter.))
((It does when Paris makes a rather incredible, OOC claim about what we could have done...especially since it's implying we're, you know, incompetent since we did the exact opposite of that.))

GMAH GASOLINE POWER

Summon gasoline hoses to counter the fire hoses!
((Oh gods.))

"I don't know..."

((And Paris:))
2. We're done with that mission, right? Why can't you tell us now?
3. Didn't completing the mission objectives require the self-destruction of the ship?))

Yuri is like magical Batman.

With sufficient preparation time, she will track down a major criminal with a smartphone armed with google maps and a stick of chalk.
And magic.

Which kinda ruins a lot of the appeal of the original Batman: That he is the only "normal" in a team of superpowered individuals, and is capable of holding his own.

...

Hey Elf, how many points would someone with no magic whatsoever get?

Eh, Ashley doesn't need to sleep really. Occasionally she'll make herself unconscious to pass the time, but she can't exactly feel anything as she does this. Also, she blocked everyone except Conny and Richard, up until after Kyle moved, then she added him to the exception list. Then finally after Kyle and Conny told her, she unblocked everybody.
You can hardly blame anyone for not waking her up then, seeing as...they can't. (Ref. bolded bits)

Also, it was Marie that alerted her.

6715
<Wait what. You just now mentioned this to me?>
<Are you fucking deaf?!? There was a bomb! It exploded! I felt it despite being immersed in the server's VR! And we've been talking about it on the bracelets for like half an hour! I thought you were just busy or something, not fucking deaf!>
<Fuck you Will! I was fucking unconscious! You don't have to fucking call me bloody deaf! Plus, you seem to have forgotten that I blocked everyone except Kyle, Conny, and Richard on bracelet until I JUST FUCKING FOUND OUT!>
<A: Is it my fault for not awakening you from that? B: How did you hear Marie telling you, then? C: Why the hell did you do that? It's fucking stupid in case of, I dunno, an emergency? D: Wha--> "Ow!"

6716
I've learned to question everything in character, mostly under the suspicion that very little about this situation is making proper sense.
Yup. It's already sillier than the original. Which contained all the silliness of comic book supers rolled into one school.

I will go for three. My reasons for 2 are much like Remuthra's, and interestingly my reasons for selecting 3>1 are the same as his for the opposite.

I'd rather do something different. Maybe a twist "behind the scenes" of some other genre, like the opening days of a zombie apocalypse or focusing on the aftereffects of supers.

((it may be password protected, the fleeing security guard just didn't log out because he was, well, fleeing?))
The guards must be crazy. Geez, can you imagine what could happen if someone just waltzed in with some malicious intent? At the very least, it should log out after a minute or two of inactivity. If normal computers do that...

[MIND:47] Wolf would have also come to the same conclusion as Will, it was a magical explosion, not a bomb. There was a difference in smell.
Stupid canine doesn't roll half as well but gets exactly as much as the guy with problem-solving powers...

((yes, that dragon thing will totaly reduce the panic..))
You have to admit, it won't make things worse.

"A very small fraction of my time, surprisingly enough."
Ester raises an eyebrow and gives Tobias a poke, "Obviously a lie, seeing as you're a boy and all." She starts giggling again.
If that wasn't an IC view I would be offended!

Twi returns from dinner. He pesters GWG because bleh.
At the time of pestering, I was at work.
Since the shift ended, I was attempting to forum while watching The Incredibles. Incredibly, this was not successful and lead to stalling of forumwork.

Ashley is practicing her violin because OH HEY, NOBODY MENTIONED ANYTHING TO THE TELEPORTER.
Aside from the obvious evidence of the explosion, which could be felt at the house, we've been mind-chattering about it on open channels for a good while.
Geez, do we need to hold Ashley's hand too?

((For all she knows, it could be Kyle testing a weapon. Nobody actually told her what was going on.
1. "Kyle's caused an explosion again? No need to worry. Or investigate in case I'm wrong. Or even check to make sure that things are actually safe. How much damage could an explosion do to a building?"
2. Again, mind-chatter.

Quote
Besides, she was probably 'asleep'.))
...Right before noon.
Dude, we need to fix her "sleep" patterns.

Damn it, Sanure. In real life, it's true that nukes and meteors are the only things likely to make mushroom clouds and blast shadows.
And? Sure. But fire storms, IIRC, make perfectly good mushroom clouds.
And the fact that I don't remember what fire storms are means I've almost certainly remembered that tidbit wrong. Dammit.

I... don't see what any of that means but I guess I'm with Kyle in the whole 'okay that was fun time to leave' thing.
...This makes me upset just slightly.
Indeed.

The entire point of plot is to characterize and develop characters.
Whereas in a normal story the point of the characters is to create and develop the plot.

Hey, at least it makes me less uncomfortable than Brave New World. That got me nopenopenoping within like the first five pages.
Why? Which part was the first five pages?

Manticores aren't animals...
Are they sentient?
Are they inanimate?

...Humans are under the Animalia Kingdom. Humans ARE animals. They are also mammals, and I forget all the other taxonomy crap for humans, but eh.
Eukaryota, Animalia, Chordata, Mammalia, Primate (don't think there's a fancy Latin name for that), Hominidae, Homo, sapiens, sapeins.
*double-checks*
Or Eukaryota, Opisthokonta, Metazoa, Eumetazoa, Bilateria, Deuterostomia, Chordata, Craniata, Vertebrata, Gnathostomata, Teleostomi, Euteleostomi, Sarcopterygii,  Dipnotetrapodomorpha, Tetrapoda, Amniota, Mammalia, Theria, Eutheria, Euarchontoglires, Primates, Haplorrhini, Simiiformes, Catarrhini, Hominoidea, Hominidae, Homininae, Homo, sapiens, sapiens, if you want all the suborders and superfamilies and stuff.

Oh, but what makes us believe we are sentient? (He said not expecting an answer.)
We have language, advanced technology, and the capacity to contemplate sentience.
We're pretty damn sentient.

((Some of this stuff is important, especially for Empiricist.))

Firstly, the blast was magical. People were burned far worse than a conventional explosive could have. In addition to that, the shrapnel was from the paraphernalia caught in the blast, there weren't any additional sources of shrapnel that a bomb may have.
Secondly, the blast was caused by a single type of magic. That magic signature was scatter everywhere whilst the other two were not. Presumably the one that scattered was the one that caused the blast and scattered with it.
Thirdly, the blast was magically limited. There was a killzone and an severe injury zone. But that was it. People either died, got badly injured, or escaped with no real injury. The sudden jump from grievous, life-threatening wounds down to bruises and slight cuts was a clear indicator. Even the ground indicated that, there was a sudden decrease in damage to the ground. Something contained it and it definitely wasn't part of the explosion otherwise it would have been more effective. The man and the woman mitigated the blast.

...Wait a minute, the man Kyle is chasing IS that man!
Out of these points, the only bit of data Will hadn't guessed was the last. He begins following, albeit at a more leisurely pace.

"Also, good job Kyle."
"Indeed. And far fewer of us than you might suspect are surprised by that."
Will hopes he didn't screw up and make it sound like plenty of them would be surprised.

"Oh sure, feign ignorance. Tie him tightly Kyle, lets bring him in, show him the footage, and if he still denies things, leave him to Marie for a bit. Then he'll sing."
"Twelve percent chance some kind of shapeshifting and/or body-changing magic was used. Separate six point four percent chance of mind control. Estimates, of course. Still, no reason to jump to conclusions, eh?"

"Now now, I can just break his hands and knees. Quicker and easier."
The man stares at Kyle in horror. "Wh-what? Ar-aren't you s-supposed to b-be some s-sort of hero? Y-you c-can't j-just break s-someone's h-hands can you?"
"Not without his powered armor or something. Regardless, he shouldn't."

Kyle shrugs and prods the man onward with his pistol.
"Yes. That is definitely the biggest threat offered by our group at this time."

"Hmpf. Fucking great. And we have no way to check if you are telling a li-"
"So much faith."
Will attempts to determine how much of the man's statements, both before Hai's stab and after, were truthful, and which ones were.

<Bismuth basicaly explained it. The security footage shows three things: The man who had the bomb inside his suitcase, where the explosion originated from, died a split second before the bomb went off, due to an unknown cause. There was this man here, who did some weird ass magic motions just before the bomb went off..and appearantly contained it, if he is not lying. Also there was a woman (enter description here), who also did some gestures.>
<Bomb? No bomb. No shrapnel, except stuff carried by the victims of course, and differences in damage done happened too fast, too infrequency. Magic, mark my words...thoughts...whatever. Pretty damn certain.>

Kyle walks over to the woman.
"Why did you do regarding the magic bomb?"
So does Will. Hard to analyze lies if you're not there in person.
"What. He means what."

"That explosion was distinctly magical. You and the man were the only people other than the one who caused it to use magic in the area. So, I'm asking what you did."
"What man? *sigh* If you really must know, I tried to block it."
You might have guessed, but...Will is trying to determine if the woman is ever lying, as he did with the man.

"Please explain further. I need to find out why a dead man's briefcase suddenly went supernova and this isn't helping."
She sighs and conjures something. "Objects like that to block it."
The pattern moves downwards diagonally before being desummoned.
"Neat. Can you alter the algorithms? Or do 3D?"

"This blast was atomic in nature. But why so small... It should be bigger. A lot bigger..." Yomiko further examines the spot the briefcase was before it exploded.
<Those scorch marks are exactly as much an indicator of an atomic blast as a mushroom cloud--ie, not at all. Both are merely associated with powerful, hot explosions.>

"Although I'm not entirely sure who came to that conclusion."
<Hai thought it was the case when she saw the footage, I confirmed it.>

"I know its magic. It's magic based on nuclear fusion. Look. See the shadow mark left from the man next to the epicenter? It required a lot of heat to do that."
"Should I point out that the Hiroshima bomb was fission or that you don't need nuclear reactions for that much heat, especially when magic is factored into the equation?"

"Now, the man dying...THAT I have a theory on. He was most likely just a shell-probably already dead in reality- and whatever was operating him simply used him to deliver the bomb and then got the hell out of dodge."
"Damn good shell, then. He looked as alive as a man on that kind of film can look."

"And? The guy is obviously a professional. That means that I shoot anyone saying they did it for being liars and unfunny."
Will rolls his eyes.
"Defense of the century."

"Have you considered that the perp may have teleported air to throw us off?"
"Don't be absurd, you can't teleport air. Not without some ridiculous specialized ability. Something like that, though? Very possible."

"Besides, do you have a better idea?"
"At the moment, the evidence points towards that. We should continue investigating, but we must keep the likely possibilities in mind--if only so we know what we should try and support, or disprove."

<Wait what. You just now mentioned this to me?>
<Are you fucking deaf?!? There was a bomb! It exploded! I felt it despite being immersed in the server's VR! And we've been talking about it on the bracelets for like half an hour! I thought you were just busy or something, not fucking deaf!>

"FUKKEN NOPE!"
Neferis places her arm on Angerus's, "Please?"
"NOPE, THIS IS FOR HIS OWN FUCKING GOOD!"
"Afraid I have to respectfully disagree, Angus."

"HES KINDA SHIT LORD, YOU SHOULD SEND HIM TO FUCKING THERAPY! I WORKED FUCKING WONDERS FOR KHARN!"
"...Despite the rest of his statement, Kyle, his advice is sound. If given alongside terrible reasons."

"I would understand being put to work if I wasn't around to help but then I am becoming more and more aware that I am a bad person."
Important RP Stuff! Pay attention, kj!
"Kyle, there are no heroes and no villains, no good people and no bad. Only people who do good or bad things."

Will reviews the evidence. Which is kinda a cue to go over all the important stuff we learned and all the stuff we're working on finding out.

Prefects will stop her if she does dark bullshit that works.
That's one out of four. What about weapons--okay, maybe that's not so important when people can throw fireballs and stuff, but what about pets and vandalism? Pentagrams presumably are made out of something.

Including what mad man would have allowed her into this school.
Who, God?
*insert comment offensive to Christians due to mocking God with Bible verses*

Before you ask G-' he is referring to God most likely' doesn't just restore the senses as it wouldn't help heroes learn to be the best they can be.'
That's a stupid explanation. Wouldn't it make sense for them to get back those abilities whose loss doesn't actually improve their ability to act or learn any?
Of course, *continue offending Christians (and Jews and Muslims, I guess)*

'God gives them special treatment to be able to fix stuff like that in return for favors.'
*Continue offending theists with comparisons to actual Bible verses*

"I hope it's not armor..."
I foresee...issues.

"Before you ask yes, most of the other Johnsons are my kids."
Half-siblings, I'm guessing?

"Bleh. Could we go to the beach or something for you to try it?"
Salt water and amphibians don't mix...
