If you have both a shield and a weapon you can block with, you double your defensive options. No shield is 360, after all...
Actually I'm not entirely certain why you're saying that you can't block with a spear. Is it the length or something like that?
More that the haft is typically wooden. And if you are holding it in one hand, you won't really be able to hold it as strongly as a sword or something, so you're going to have trouble blocking with it in that case (unless you WANT your wrist to get badly twisted). It's also longer and less wieldy to do so with than most weapons.

No head is 360 degrees as well GWG :P
Regardless, blocking helps. Also helpful is not having to shift the way you're holding your weapon if the enemy closes.

And that's the point--if youhave a spear, you're kinda screwed if you need to block something.
That's why you have shields. They are the premier piece of defensive equipment after all.

I'll go with freeform and piecewise, due to their slew of excellent games, as well as their artistic skills and creativity respectively.

scapheap, as well, since he made one of the longest-running and busiest games I have ever seen on Bay12.
Also IAmAnElfCollaborator, because he is currently running that game.

Glaives and naginatas can be used to slash and stab, as can be halberds.
And they're all unbalanced to varying degrees, as well as being polearms and therefore sucking if your enemy was fairly close.
Also, aren't maginatas more Asian than European?

They're always pretty unbalanced. Putting a big, sharp bit of metal on the end of a stick does that. Unbalancedness always makes it less wieldy.
There's always double-sided axes.
Still unbalanced.

Should I expand on the backstory?
Maybe say who/what killed his mother. At the moment, it come off as he kill her, but could of been old age or another killer.
Aye-aye. Any other suggestions on gaps?

If you're using a spear to block, you deserve everything that happens to you :P

Maybe make it blunt/point/edge instead of accurate/damaging/median of the two?
I don't see what you mean...

I am the best interspecies dad ever!

Make sure we have enough food for a while. Keep an eye out for baddies.
Better than my interspecies dad. Can you adopt me?
I don't know about you IC...or OOC.

I don't understand gaming trends of swords being the "average" weapon, when in reality they were top-tier super-expensive stuff. Good swords that is.
People see them as the "standard" medieval weapon, and they're the most common weapon in fantasy. Hence, they're the basis everything else is based off of. Plus, from a layman's point of view, it looks like they can do a bit of what just about any other weapon can.

Axes, if you put a spike ontop of the haft. Or just use spears.
Axes are unwieldy no matter what you put on the top.
Spears have more reach than most other weapons and can't slash, unlike most weapons. They also suck at bludgeoning.

Great! We're online now. I'll PM you the Roll20 link. Tell them I'd be there if the page was loading, okay?

((Should we have a restriction so that only mind-based abilities work in the server and other people's minds? Otherwise it wouldn't make much sense that someone could affect the server with a physical effect.))
On one hand, that makes sense.
On the other hand...well, in the mind, the mind makes it real. So theoretically (if the server/host mind didn't object somehow, and if you convinced yourself well enough) you could do or be just about anything in the mentalverse.

Amusingly, I was distracted by actual XCOM, which is why I was a bit late.

That, and the fact that my internet's acting up. By not acting.

7364
Didn't we just go over this?

No, not for another ~40 minutes. If everyone shows up on time.

"M-m-maybe a study area...? W-w-w-with all th-the books and l-l-l-languages available...?"
"I was thinking of something like that..." Will begins assembling the server.

"Okay. Could you quickly load the map I gave you so we can just mess about in it? I may have put something in for Neferis."
"...Al-right." Will carries the servers back to a room he turned into his workshop.

<Ready, Kyle. Do your worst.> He goes back to assembling the new server.
